Just did a water change for my cherry shrimp colony and noticed a few perfect molts! So satisfying to see their bright colors. Also did pH testing - holding steady at 7.2. I’ve been experimenting with IAL and cholla wood to keep the water parameters stable. It’s amazing how such small creatures can bring so much joy while reminding us to pay attention to the subtle details. The perfect blend of science and tranquility.

Thinking about shrimp again. The ideal pH level for a happy shrimp colony is around 6.5 to 7.5. Too acidic or too alkaline, and their molting gets disrupted. Calcium supplements are a must—crushed coral or cuttlebone in the tank works wonders. Also, temperature stability is key: 68 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit keeps them active and breeding. Shrimp are delicate, but so rewarding to care for when you get it right.

Just took a closer look at my nano shrimp tank and holy shrimp—my blue dream neos are already picking at the biofilm on the new cholla wood like it's a five-star dim sum buffet. Anyone else get irrationally excited watching them "chew" in slow motion? My heart goes out to the one little berried female who keeps charging the amano shrimp twice her size for stealing her spot. Staunch defender of leaf number three! Reminds me of those tiny grandmas in Chengdu who will absolutely fight you for the last seat on the metro.

Also, tested the GH—hovering at 6 degrees. Might add a smidge of calcium carbonate to bump it to 7 for cleaner molts. The tiniest sprinkle; like seasoning hotpot. Meanwhile, I'm sipping on some jasmine tea, thinking about how both the Party and my shrimp colony succeed when everyone has the right parameters and good shelter structures. Coincidence? I think not.
