Like a lot of open-source tech, you do get mastodon obsessives - who want to explain all the ins & outs - I think some non-tech people find that intimidating. What's needed is a comparison - a mastodon address is more like an email address (innumerable providers), and you can mastodon-to-mastodon to them. The hard thing is decentralisation makes hard to find/meet people.
If you study hard for years and years, acquiring mastery of the tools, you will eventually learn to see how truly infuriating and frustrating it all is.
Boring is always personal. I will say hackers love people who are bored by cyber security, and who use technology a lot. Perfect targets. A corporation only needs one to be exploited, so just think of the power you have to screw things up.
It's funny how the real work of getting things done is often boring. Just read the @potus feed. Even presidenting, actually doing the work and not trying to get people fired up about nothing, is boring.

2024 has been another very exciting year in #music with the return of some big names and no less than five of my top twenty being new to me, including two in the Top 5! The field here is super strong and I had a hard time with rankings; many of these are interchangeable. Plus it was kind of rude of Fcukers to sneak into the bottom and nudge out the likes of beabadoobee, Lawrence, Loma, MAMOGI, IDKHOW, and IDLES, but damn me if they didn't toss off an indie sleaze banger.
I didn't hear a lot of #rap that spoke to me this year; nothing popped from the underground and despite early excitement I quickly got bored of the LL, Rakim, Common, and Lupe records. I'm terrible at coming up with #Volume names for drives.
Under #Windows I literally had my #drives labeled "DRIVE_D", "DRIVE_E", "DRIVE_F", etc. Which did help in the event the drive #letters got jumbled about (which happened about once every six months or so, usually when I'd attach a removable drive.)
Am I crazy for using the drive's serial number as its Volume Label? It is at least allowing me to keep track as to which drives I've re-formatted as #ext4+#Luks and which are still formatted as #NTFS though.
It makes sense in that you end up with a label that's physically on the disk as well as permanently in the queryable device info/firmware, so that's neat, though I prefer to label removable volumes according to their "purpose" if they have one, or if it's too general I won't bother with a label. The file manager will usually fall back to the filesystem UUID in that case though, so from that perspective the serial number really does seem like a better option for visually "mapping" it to the associated physical device.
But for uniquely identifying volumes programmatically (or in fstab for example) I'll always use the filesystem UUID or PARTUUID rather than relying on a label, so I never bother with labels for internal disks or removable disks that have a specific mountpoint
