Christliche Musik war seit jeher ein Vehikel für sehr unanständige Inhalte oder als Ausdruck von Rebellion oder Freiheitskampf. besonders eindrucksvoll war das bei der Schwarzen Bevölkerung der USA ausgeprägt.
Soul Strirres sind deshalb besonders interessant, da sie zum einen den damals unbekannten Sam Cooke als Lead hatten und zum anderen, da sie direkt den Übergang von Gospel zu Soul markieren.
So direkt dass ein und dasselbe Lied, einmal als Christliche Hymne "Wonderful" und einmal als Schlafzimmer singsang "Lovable" aufgenaommen wurden - beide großartig!
