The Lederberg interview follows a longer segment about Magic Johnson returning to the NBA to play ball, despite AIDS, and a shorter segment about the 1996 presidential election.
This video was uploaded to the Internet Archive in 2017 and only has 35 views. I checked on Mark's extensive page (the best on the Internet) on Lederberg, twice, and didn't see this one posted there yet. @Housatonic

Most of Murrow's decade+ work on TV is unfindable, unfortunately. I wonder if his shows "See It Now" and "Person to Person" were available in the Net 10, 15 or 20 years ago?
But because Jay has been mentioning Joshua Lederberg a lot recently, I looked and was able to dig up the Rose/Lederberg interview.
I'd be interested if anyone has comments about the Joshua Lederberg interview on Charlie Rose 🙂

Unknown parent • • •Were you researching CBS's 'The Taming of a Virus' episode? I found nothing when I searched for it a while back. The closest I could find was a 2019 replay of the 1964 Merck Measles Vaccine Production (linked below).
My comment on the Rose-Lederberg interview is that there was 3 cups Fearmongering combined with at least 2 cups Globalization. Throw in 1/2 cup Victim blaming spread thickly on the top and that was the recipe for this 'production'. I had to relisten just to make sure they ticked off all the narrative boxes.
Fearmongering:
*1918 flu
*AIDS
*Infectious diseases are overtaking us
*Per MH (Lyme, Hantavirus, Legionnaires, Ehrlichiosis & recurring Measles, TB and even Rabies)
*Antibiotic Resistance
*'Microbial-Predators' (per JL)
Globalization/Global Perspective
*Per JL it is Most Important
*Requires both Political and Social Action (surveillance, intelligence, planning, new drugs and vaccines)
*Per MH it's a critical time against a fierce enemy that requires a Collective Effort (both Local & Global)
Victim Blaming/Our fault
*For antibiotic resistance
*For not changing behavior
*For not using Our Wits against their [predators] Evolutionary Potential
*For not using the available Scientific Tools research has provided us
*For downplaying Infectious Diseases
*For not allocating enough Money to study Infectious Diseases

I see those are "Best of" collections, and don't see any mention of Salk on the back covers. Maybe he's in there, but it looks like they focus on celebrity interviews.
And, I don't have a VCR 😅

I LOVED you breakdown of Lederberg on Rose. Spot on synopsis. And your cooking/recipe analogy made me smile. Thanks. 🙏
