finally. i had to remove the power steering pump, alternator, move the front frame bracket, radiator fan and coolant overflow tank, and loosen one motor mount and raise the engine, just to get to the AC compressor.
now we get to find out exactly what was wrong with this thing
it's hard to overstate how much of a pain in the ass that was. hopefully i'll replace the whole pump while i'm in there not just trying to mess with the magnetic clutch mechanism. that's a bit of a toss-up cause an old OEM denso pump even though it looks like crap could still be better than a new amazon aftermarket pump. so i'll have to see what amazon sends me tomorrow and decide
i suppose i could pay $500 for a new OEM acura compressor but i'd rather not. now that i know how to do this and all the stuck bolts are broken loose, it'll be a lot easier next time if necessary
ok so hear me out. i just realized the low bolt clearance could be related to the excessive idle vibration. there are two fluid filled engine mounts in this car and they've almost certainly leaked out by now, which could have the engine dropped in a lower position than normal, which put the AC compressor too close to the sub frame 🧠
it all makes sense now. i definitely need to change all 4 engine mounts. that should take care of the idle vibration. it's a known issue with these cars when they get old
this would also explain why there was no mention of having to raise the engine to remove the AC compressor in the service manual. i was thinking dudes did you not bother to do this procedure before writing the manual? but yes they did, they just didn't have sagging blown out engine mounts

@ashleygjovik ive used gpt to write bash scripts. ive never tried to get it to like, "do writing" before. it seems like it would spew weird hallucinatory nonsense.
pretty much all ive used it for is like, dumb stock trady bullshits, and python/bash. occasionally some linux config stuff and to help me find competing products, but never more than like, a paragraphs worth of thinking. any more and it goes haywire real fast.
It works quite well if you design very strict instructions of what it needs to do, and how it needs to do it. I have used it to do complex analysis and drafting, but I have to basically have to treat it like i'm developing a little app and give it a tiny universe to operate in, and make it run QA & failure analysis on itself. Once I set that up, it automates a ton of stuff, but it cannot be left unsupervised.

If you can't see your own posts in the feed, go to your settings and make sure Show Read Posts is turned ON!

In the top menu, you’ll see the search icon. There, you can search for posts, communities etc. You can just enter a search-word and it will find the Post-titles, post-content, communities etc containing that word that the server knows of. So any content any user of this server ever interacted with.
You can also search for a community by it’s link, e.g. !lemmy@lemmy.ml or its URL, e.g. https://lemmy@lemmy.ml/. Even if the server hasn’t ever seen that community, it will look it up remotely. Sometimes it takes some time for it to fetch the info (and displays ‘No results’ meanwhile…) so just be patient and search a second time after a few seconds. Please note search time may be increase if remote servers are experiencing high loads.
For a more in depth list of remote communities, you can visit browse.feddit.de or Lemmyverse search. From there you can copy your chosen communities URL and search for it in Lemmy.zip.
- Communities
You can subscribe to any community on another server and post/comment on that server, all from this instance. Once you've subscribed, this server will continue to pull the latest content from that community through to here.
The subscribe button is on the top right of the community. Click this will federate Lemmy.zip with that community.
You can create a community on this server too (there is no restriction on creating communities on Lemmy.zip, unlike some other instances) and anyone else will be able to subscribe to your community.
