Quoting Haaretz’s editorial on how Israel’s Trolling Minister Katz is trivializing #antisemitism and using the Gaza aid flotilla as a mocking tactic, demonstrating a disconnect from the humanitarian crisis in #Gaza (engineered by #Israel):
[…] Concern for Gazans is not support for Hamas and certainly not support for October 7. The refusal to distinguish between opposition to the atrocities Israel is currently committing and support for a terrorist organization deepens the disconnect between Israel and the world.

When not busy scavenging stories from social media about #antisemitism for their rolling coverage titled "wave of antisemitism" (mostly ultra-orthodox Jews complaining about not getting something they felt entitled to), Ynet is "reporting" (IDF briefings) about terrorist activities, including children and women throwing stones at unsuspecting, fragile soldiers who are left with no choice other than to “neutralize” them.
The text in Hebrew says:
Fighters neutralized a female terrorist who was throwing stones in the Shomron, a knife was found in her possession.
IDF forces neutralized a female terrorist who was throwing stones at the Giti Avishar junction in Shomron. During the search, a knife was found in her possession.
(Elisha Ben Kimon)
This is not the definition of terrorist or terrorism. Yet Ynet is regularly choosing to use the term “מחבל" (terrorist) to describe Palestinians. The labeling of stone-throwing as terrorism and the individual as a terrorist represents a particular narrative about resistance activities in the occupied territories. The report also emphasizes that a knife was found in her possession after the fact, which serves to further justify the characterization and response.

Palestinian woman shot dead in the West Bank after throwing stones at Israeli vehicles; IDF: She tried to stab soldiers
Text
A Palestinian woman threw stones at IDF forces and Israeli vehicles at the Giti Avishar junction in the West Bank and was shot dead. The IDF reported that she also tried to stab soldiers at the scene before she was shot, and that no additional people were injured.
1. Haaretz correctly identifies her as a "Palestinian woman" rather than a "female terrorist"
2. The report directly states she was "shot dead" rather than using the term "neutralized" (terminology #Ynet used intentionally and regularly to broadcast an imminent threat justifying the killing)
3. The report presents the stabbing attempt as an IDF claim ("IDF: She tried to stab soldiers") rather than a confirmed fact
4. Ynet's headline emphasized the knife being found in her possession, while Haaretz includes the stabbing attempt as an IDF statement in the context of the report

This is the chronology established (matching earlier reports based on social media posts):
- On the evening before the Europa League match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv, #Maccabi (Israeli) fans were reported to have torn down and burned a Palestinian flag, shouted anti-Palestinian slogans, and vandalized a taxi.
- The following day, there were clashes between pro-Palestine protesters and Maccabi fans on Dam Square in Amsterdam.
- During and after the match, there were numerous attacks on Maccabi supporters across the city center. Footage showed masked youths targeting fans, with some allegedly asked if they were Jewish
- Five Maccabi fans were hospitalized and 20-30 others were slightly injured in the attacks.
[…] Verified social media videos show Maccabi fans setting off flares and fireworks, chanting in Hebrew “olé, olé, let the IDF win, we will fuck the Arabs”, and declaring that there were “no children” left in Gaza.
[…] Footage has also emerged of Maccabi supporters close to Amsterdam central railway station setting off fireworks, chanting anti-Palestine slogans and taking iron scaffolding tubes and wooden planks from a building site to use as weapons. Other footage shows Maccabi fans running through the streets swinging belts.
While the Dutch authorities quickly condemned the violence as an "outburst of antisemitism," the evidence suggests the attacks were more directly targeted at the Israeli fans for their own provocative behaviors, rather than being motivated by broader #antisemitism against Amsterdam's Jewish community.
The initial incidents triggered by the #Maccabi fans, such as burning the Palestinian flag and chanting anti-Arab slogans, appear to have been the catalysts for the later attacks against them.
In this context, the violence, while unacceptable, may have been a reaction to the prior actions of the Maccabi supporters rather than reflecting prejudice against Jews in general.

in reply to oatmeal • • •"When the Media Meets Rape in Wartime: The Story of the Israeli Media About the Sexual Violence on October 7" (Dr. Odelia Dayan-Gabay, 2024)
The study analyzed Israeli media coverage of sexual violence committed on October 7, 2023 and the patriarchal underpinnings in Israeli media coverage. It covered a three-month period, from October 7 to December 31, 2023. This period was chosen because it encompassed the initial and crucial phase of the media's reaction to the events, which shaped public discourse and initial perceptions.
The study focuses on how Israeli media framed the sexual violence and rape committed by Hamas on October 7, 2023. The study analyzes four leading Israeli online news sites: #Ynet (center-right), Israel Hayom (right, nationalist, pro-Netanyahu), #Haaretz (center-left), and Makor Rishon (right, nationalist). The author does not mention any Israeli war crimes in Gaza or the occupation (despite the withdrawal, the Gaza Strip in 2005, Gaza was considered occupied under international law due to Israel's continued control over its borders, airspace, and maritime access.)
The analysis primarily focuses on the narratives and motifs used by Israeli media to portray the events. The study identifies four main narratives:
Mechanism of denial: Israeli media's reaction to the international community's denial of the sexual violence.
The victims’ voices: How the media presented the voices of the victims, highlighting the tension between silence and outcry, and individual versus collective pain.
Rape as a weapon of war: Framing the sexual violence as part of a broader phenomenon of violence against women, and its use as a weapon of war.
Criticism and blame: Directing blame towards Hamas, the international community, and to a lesser extent, the Israeli government.
The study emphasizes the Israeli media's unified stance in supporting the victims and criticizing the international community's denial of the sexual violence. It does not address the broader political context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict or any potential actions taken by Israel during this period. It also avoids discussing government decisions or actions regarding the release of hostages, or any resulting public perception of betrayal.
While the study highlights a shift in Israeli media's approach to covering sexual violence, acknowledging denial tactics and using terminology from the feminist discourse, the analysis also reveals the persistence of patriarchal perceptions within the coverage.
Nationalization of Individual Suffering: The study observes a tendency to frame rape as a weapon of war aimed at harming the nation as a whole. This nationalization of individual suffering transforms personal trauma into a collective, national wound, diminishing the focus on the individual woman's experience. The sources provide examples of rhetoric that compares the penetration of Israel's borders to sexual violation, further illustrating this conflation of individual and national bodies.
Objectification of Women: The analysis points out that the narratives often depict women as objects through which messages are conveyed between groups of men. This objectification reinforces the patriarchal notion of women as possessions or symbols of national honor, rather than individuals with agency and autonomy. The sources provide an example where discussions about the potential sexual violence faced by female captives in Gaza are framed in terms of the concerns of male authorities and the strategic implications for Israel, with the women themselves remaining voiceless.
Association of Female Sexuality with Honor: The language used in the coverage frequently links a woman's sexuality to her honor, employing terms like "defiled" or "the honor of our daughters". This association perpetuates the patriarchal notion that a woman's worth is tied to her sexual purity and reinforces the stigma surrounding sexual violence. The sources note that this language is particularly prevalent in _Makor Rishon_, a publication catering to a religious Zionist audience.
Limited Recognition of Male Victims: The study also observes a significant lack of attention given to male victims of sexual violence. While acknowledging that women are statistically more likely to be victims of sexual violence, the sources argue that the near-exclusion of male victims from the narrative contributes to the underreporting of such cases and reinforces harmful stereotypes about masculinity and victimhood.
The study concludes that despite the apparent adoption of some feminist terminology and a focus on challenging denial mechanisms, the persistence of these patriarchal underpinnings suggests that a genuine shift in understanding and addressing sexual violence within Israeli society may still be in its early stages.

Writing in Israel Hayom, Shirit Aviram Cohen is angry that the IDF is not “allowed to win,” advocating for deliberately starving civilians in northern Gaza, despite being aware that this would violate international law.
Cohen criticizes military advocate general Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi for blocking the "Generals' Plan" based on its illegality, attempting to justify mass starvation by falsely claiming that civilians who don't evacuate can be classified as combatants under an "American code" - a legal fiction contradicted by established international law.
International legal experts categorically identify this plan as "genocidal" and a "textbook" case of ethnic cleansing. They point out that using starvation as a weapon, even after evacuation orders, constitutes a war crime and crime against humanity.
Oxford law professor Janina Dill explicitly refutes this argument as "a perversion of law," emphasizing that civilians who cannot or choose not to flee retain full protection rights. The absence of return guarantees further suggests the plan's true aim is permanent forced displacement of Palestinians from northern Gaza.
This isn't a debate over legal interpretation - it's an Israeli newspaper openly advocating for war crimes.

Ailat Grill-Sharath, the Hebrew-language spokesperson for Sikui-Ofuk, an organization working to promote a shared and equitable society between Arab and Jewish citizens in #Israel, writesabout how Israeli media outlets are complicit in the suppression of Palestinian rights. While ostensibly covering the government's dangerous legislative blitz, major news organizations consistently omit or downplay laws specifically targeting the Arab community.
For example, #N12 criticized the legislation but ignored laws defined under "supporting terror," while #Calcalist warned of the judicial overhaul without mentioning the word "Arab." This selective reporting hides the true aim: to erase the Arab community as a legitimate minority. A proposed amendment to the Basic Law: The Knesset, designed to lower Arab voter turnout, exemplifies this biased coverage.
Analysis by Sikui-Ofuk and The Seventh Eye revealed that while the media described the amendment as a "correction/expansion of grounds for disqualification," it was referred to as a "law for disqualifying/removing supporters of terror" in discussions and interviews, ignoring the severe impact on a fifth of the country's citizens and the undermining of democracy.
Other laws aim to expel students and lecturers deemed "supporters of terror" from academic institutions, violating freedom of speech. A further proposal allows arrests for "incitement to terror" without prosecutorial approval, further enabling political persecution. Arab representation in Hebrew media is at a record low of 1.3% in 2023, reflecting the existing Jewish supremacy. The media must actively challenge this narrative and defend the Arab community, protecting democracy for all.

Who could have guessed? WAPO's "investigation" is somewhat superfluous; citizen journalists already showed Israeli soccer fans initiating the violence. There was no program and the violence was most certainly not planned.
Initial confrontations involved aggressive actions by some Maccabi Tel Aviv fans, such as damaging a taxi and tearing down a Palestinian flag. These actions, along with online messaging containing threats against Israeli fans, fueled retaliatory actions by some local residents. The inadequate police response in the city center also contributed significantly to the escalation of violence.

Israel's media landscape is shifting, with a rise in right-wing voices and potential restrictions on free speech. This show often features extreme views, downplays #Palestinian suffering, and frames criticism of #Israel as antisemitic. The report also notes a trend of self-censorship among journalists and the government's actions against critical media outlets.
[…] Even during conflict, outlets should strive to incorporate the other side's narratives and vicissitudes into their coverage. Th Ministry (headed by Neo-Nazi friendly Amichai Chikli) attempted to directly influence Dutch political discourse by bypassing normal diplomatic channels - they sent a report directly to some members of the Dutch Parliament (Kamerleden) just before a parliamentary debate about violence in Amsterdam.
The report accused six Dutch pro-Palestinian organizations of having ties to #Hamas and blamed them for violence against Israeli football supporters and Jews in Amsterdam, particularly singling out the Palestinian Community Netherlands Foundation (#PGNL) as having a major organizing role. This unusual approach of distributing serious accusations through social media and directly to parliamentarians, rather than through proper diplomatic and law enforcement channels, drew sharp criticism from the Dutch cabinet who viewed it as potentially harmful to Dutch citizens and contrary to principles of democratic order

The key points in the letter are:
1. The Israeli DAb report attempts to link these organizations to alleged antisemitic violence in Amsterdam on November 7-8, 2024
2. The report specifically claims the Palestinian Community Netherlands Foundation (PGNL) had a major role in organizing these incidents
3. The Dutch government notes that these allegations were not shared through formal channels with Dutch authorities

[…] The right-wing response to violence against Israeli fans in Amsterdam expresses deep confusion. As screenwriter Roy Idan writes: "They will never love us - but they must fear us." After flattening Gaza, after "there are no uninvolved civilians there," after "conquer southern Lebanon," the new insight is that gentiles in Europe need to fear us in their capitals.
[…] From the opposite pole to 'muscle Judaism,' journalist Yanir Kozin wrote simply, 'Tomorrow, November 9, marks 86 years since #Kristallnacht.' This was the name given to the night when lynchings of helpless Jews were carried out across the Third Reich. It seems that Israelis will never stop oscillating between a sense of unlimited power and existential fear; between a self-image of fearless superheroes and the pathetic diaspora Jew having his sidelocks pulled out, the eternal victim of the world.
[…] One is mistaken to think that beating Palestinian shepherds and farmers, entering their homes and defecating on their floors, killing parents in front of their children won't affect one's fate. And yes, a state that doesn't free its hostages, whose police beat the families of hostages, has lost some of its right to complain.

ישראל היא יצרנית של אלימות כבדה, תוך כדי מופע קבוע של התקרבנות ויבבנות

in reply to oatmeal • • •Quoting an anonymous #IDF reservist: "What happened in Sde Teiman is no secret, but most Israelis don't know anything about it, even now, because the Israeli media has almost completely ignored it. This is also the reason I chose to be interviewed. Because Palestinians continue to exit our detention facilities in body bags, and most people around me haven't heard about it."
The source is criticizing the Israeli news program "Real Time" for a misleading report on the infamous torture facility, where systematic abuse of detainees occurres. Instead of exposing the broader, horrific conditions and numerous accounts of torture and death, the program focused narrowly on a single incident involving a physical assault, effectively concealing the larger picture of a brutal and inhumane operation. The reservist argues this selective reporting reflects a pattern within Israeli media to prioritize sensationalized, localized stories over exposing systemic issues and ongoing human rights violations. He believes this allows the abusive practices at facilities like Shitfield to continue unchecked.
