Houseplants are such a barometer of self care, although the flower pictured here is one I made from paper.

I have a weekly alert to water the houseplants, but it’s usually just a backup to remind me if I’ve been preoccupied. If I’ve been taking time for myself, I’ll water when they catch my attention by loosing their alertness, like a drooping ficus leaf or a leaning peace lily spike.
This week both the plants and I have been thirsty, despite the break from the heat. I’m noticing I’m drinking more water, even though I’ve been avoiding going out during the hottest part of the day. Are you staying hydrated?
Despite the bright hues, this color combination feels cooling to me. The green section below the “flower” unravels. I hid gifts inside the paper heliconia as I glued the spathes together. #bloomscrolling #color #fediart #houseplants

Please read about the #BDS #boycotts if you haven’t already!

I know, as #anticapitalist we’re not likely to be the biggest #consumers, and that many of these #companies targeted for #boycott, #divestment, and #sanctions, are not #consumer brands anyway.

But, the #Palestinian BDS National Committee has identified list of companies that support #Israel and which profit off the #genocide in #Gaza!

I very much admire Lara Logan. She is a fine journalist with keen instincts, but I have mixed feelings about the cleavage-revealing wardrobe she favors for her appearances and interviews.

One would dismiss her credentials at their peril if they base their opinion on how she dresses, and maybe that's a strategy on her part.

But I find it curious....

@Phil - you can thank me later for being the straight man for whatever you're going to say...

Considering what the BBC has said today about their broadcast of Bob Vylan from Glastonbury, I can only assume that in future if any musical artist makes a political statement the broadcast will immediately be cut.

And that, chums, is simple authoritarian censorship.

youtube.com/watch?v=4LVuOCUoPR…

The genocide in Gaza "coincides with a ban on international media and a calculated extermination campaign to assassinate the limited number of people left to document and expose Israel’s atrocities"

TO THE IDF me haga sentir mal.

Terrible.

Several people I respect recently made similar observations to the effect that there is the security community, and then there's the security industry, which are frequently two VERY different things with somewhat misaligned goals and incentives. Seems like there's a lot of truth to explore there.

From my various provocations on LinkedIn the past six months, it's become clear the latter is largely content to sit quietly or even cheer as this administration makes a public mockery of everything their industry claims to stand for. I suspect this may have something to do with tons of security firms suddenly recasting themselves as AI-focused companies.

Am I way off base or too idealistic or simplistic here, or just jaded? I've been trying to identify the real source of my malaise over attending security industry events over the past few months, and I think this dynamic is a big part of it.

I don't know about you (and others), but in my experience nowadays, when someone says they're in Security/in the Security Industry, they really mean they're in Compliance, which...I think explains the state of the industry, in more ways than one.

The guts of infosec and "security" have effectively diverged, I think.

Personally, I lay this at the feet of the "business" parasites who co-opted otherwise honest business ventures and relationships in search of capital.

"Jamie Raskin's Preamble to the Big Ugly Bill and Trump didn't like it”, DailyKos

“Mr. Speaker, I found a Preamble to this Big Ugly Bill. We the billionaires, and our King, in order to deform and sicken our Union, establish injustice, ensure domestic servility, weaken our peoples defenses, undermine our general welfare, and reserve to ourselves and our posterity staggering debt servitude for eternity, do herby instruct the Republicans in Congress to strip 17 million people of their healthcare, increase copays, premiums and deductibles for everyone else, cut 42 million people off of nutritional assistance, increase the national debt by 4 trillion dollars, trash renewable energy systems, increase our electric bills for the carbon kings, all to weaken and destroy the Constitution of the people of these United States of America. Please include this Preamble in the legislative record. I yield back.”

be it human bodies, ability to grow food or valuable shit under the ground, it's all about resources and the power gained by granting or denying access to them on the global market.

If countries were all small, there would be fewer centers of power and more collaboration. We'd still need something LIKE the UN to stop East Bumblefuck from invading West Bumblefuck, but there would be more coalitions because each political unit would have less power.

The son of Dr Marwan al-Sultan, the director of Gaza’s Indonesian Hospital - one of the strip’s largest hospitals - mourns his father’s death.

Sultan was killed, along with his wife, sister, daughter and son-in-law, when a missile struck his home on Wednesday.

The doctor was the 70th healthcare worker killed in the past 50 days, according to Palestinian medical organization Healthcare Workers Watch (HWW). - MEE

Paramount's spineless decision to settle Trump's baseless and patently unconstitutional lawsuit "will be remembered as one of the most shameful capitulations by the press to a president in history," we said.

The Big Death Bill has officially been passed. Despite claiming to want to “Make America Healthy Again,” hundreds of Republican Congressmembers willingly chose to kick millions of people off health insurance, close hundreds of hospitals, nursing homes, and reproductive health clinics, leave millions of families without enough food, and kill tens of thousands of people. This is the biggest assault on health in recent history.
