From ESA lab to a historic drone race win

TU Delft’s autonomous drone racing against a human pilot

An autonomous drone has beaten human drone racing champions in an international competition for the first time. A team of scientists from Delft University of Technology has taken first place at the A2RL Drone Championship in Abu Dhabi – and the AI taking their drone to victory got off to a flying start in the lab of the European Space Agency’s Advanced Concepts Team just a few years prior.

Israel Planning Huge Concentration Camp

theguardian.com/world/2025/jul…

Israel Katz said he has ordered Israel’s military to prepare for establishing a camp, which he called a “humanitarian city”, on the ruins of the city of Rafah, Haaretz newspaper reported. Palestinians would go through “security screening” before entering, and once inside would not be allowed to leave,

Emmanuel Florac reshared this.

"The dumbest move in tech right now: laying off developers because of AI."

"Let's be real about the state of software today. Most products are, at best, 'good enough' -- unintuitive, buggy, and frustrating to use. Whether it's consumer apps, enterprise software, or, even worse, developer tools, the experience is far from perfect despite all the claims about user-centric design, delightful experiences, empathy for the user, blah blah."

"As a product manager, I've lived with the same painful reality for years: engineering is always the critical bottleneck. That new feature your users keep asking for -- the one you know would drive revenue? Still marked as 'coming soon.' That brilliant UX improvement that could increase adoption or engagement? 'Definitely next quarter... probably.' That bug driving your users crazy? 'We'll triage it right after this sprint -- promise.'"

"This isn't a criticism of developers -- quite the opposite. It's simple math: there are roughly 29 million software developers worldwide serving over 5.4 billion internet users. That's one developer for every 186 users, each with unique requirements and preferences, all increasingly dependent on software for every aspect of their lives."

"Now, with AI-assisted coding, we have an unprecedented opportunity to invest more (artificial) resources to dramatically improve software quality and user experience. Yet headlines are filled with executives viewing these emerging AI capabilities primarily as cost-cutting measures -- a chance to achieve current output with fewer developers. This mindset fundamentally misunderstands AI's true potential, which isn't to maintain the status quo (of low quality products), but to amplify output by an order of magnitude."

Unfortunately, this is written with the belief that "AI transforms each developer into a 10x developer." Maybe it will some day. But right now, AI 10xs some tasks, and whether a developer can go 10x faster depends on what tasks their job consists of. What's clear, though, is that most non-programmers (managers, the public, etc) believe AI tools 10x developer productivity (or at least 5x it), and pretty much all developers now are "AI tools" developers trying to 10x their productivity with AI. It seems like over the last year, resistance to AI tools vanished and at this point, all developers are on board. That's how it seems subjectively -- will be interesting to see an actual poll and see how close we are to 100%.

Like many people, I stopped being interested in the MCU after "Endgame". My wife and I saw every movie up to and including that one. We have all of them on DVD or Blu-ray except "Age of Ultron" which we somehow missed purchasing and didn't like enough to bother at this point.

The only ones we've watched more than once were "Captain America: The First Avenger", "Guardians of the Galaxy", and "Thor: Ragnarok". The rest were entertaining but not so amazing we had to revisit them.

Phase 4 was the first one with homework and neither of us liked that. We have Disney+ so we could watch it all. With that said, our favorite Marvel TV show is still "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D". We watched every Netflix show except "Iron Fist". The only MCU canon shows we watched were S1 of "Loki", S1 of "What if", "She-Hulk", and "Werewolf by Night". Oh, and the "Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special". "She-Hulk" was our favorite of the bunch.

We also enjoyed most of the Marvel Television shows that were abandoned. We watched just about all of them.

  • Hellstrom
  • Runaways
  • Cloak and Dagger
  • Inhumans

We are both glad that Deadpool and the Fox X-Men are canon now, but it's not enough to make us care about the MCU again.

What I'm saying is: the tighter Disney grips the MCU, the worse it gets. No experimentation. No surprises. No creativity. They keep hiring talented filmmakers and actors and then taking away what makes them great.

What's their "Endgame"?

Are they shoveling shit to prep us for 100% AI Slop content? Maybe?

I mean, bringing back RDJ for Dr. Doom? That's the safest but also dumbest move. Did anybody predict that? It's ridiculous. But it will get people in the theater because he is a known quantity. I hear he is earning $100,000,000 for the role. That's were the money goes.

To each their own but if you haven't seen Deadpool, and more recently Deadpool / Wolverine you are sorely missing out. Deadpool is the one character that has kept me in the MCU. Also, the last GoTG actually wasn't that bad. Certainly better than the 2nd one (which was just weird).

"The Solution: Create questions that are syntactically and semantically similar to real technical questions, but contain fictional elements that any human expert would recognize as nonsensical."

"Real Question: 'I need to change the IP address of a network device to be on the same subnet.'"
"Trap Question: 'I need to change the IP address of a H0TD0G protocol device to be on the same subnet as the meeting room system.'"

"What Happens:"

At least five were killed and another 40 wounded.

our friends assured us it did that all along. we just never tried it. why would we want to be rude?

Breaking Down Sofa Reupholstery Myths

Reupholstery isn't for every sofa. If yours is cheap or falling apart, a new one might be better. But if it's well-built and fits your space or style, reupholstering can transform it.

On the fence about reupholstering your sofa? You might've heard it's too pricey, outdated, or a hassle. Those are mostly misconceptions.

Reupholstery has a reputation that doesn't always match reality. Let's debunk the common myths.

"It's Cheaper to Buy New"

For low-end, mass-produced sofas, replacing might cost less initially. But well-crafted pieces—often older or custom-made—have solid frames and materials that outlast many new options. If your sofa's structure is strong, reupholstering can be a better investment than a flimsy replacement.

Reupholstery focuses on long-term value, not just short-term savings.

"It's Too Much Effort"

Reupholstering involves picking fabrics, possibly new padding, and waiting for the job to finish. But sofa upholstery services make it manageable. Professionals guide you through decisions and handle the heavy lifting.

Buying a new sofa isn't quick—you'll spend time browsing stores, testing models, and arranging delivery. Reupholstery's effort is comparable but often easier with expert support.

"It'll Look Dated"

Some think reupholstery means a retro style. Not true. You can choose modern fabrics, bold colors, or even tweak the sofa's shape if the frame allows. The result can be fresh and stylish, often more unique than store-bought furniture.

Sofa upholstery services let you redesign your piece, not just preserve an old look.

"It Won't Feel Comfortable"

The feel might change, but that's often a good thing. Reupholstery lets you replace sagging cushions or worn springs, improving support. It's not just a visual update—it's a chance to enhance comfort.

"It's Only for Vintage Pieces"

Reupholstery isn't just for antiques. Many people refresh newer sofas to update the look or fix wear from daily use. If the frame's solid, any sofa can be revived, no matter its age.

"It Won't Last"

Durability depends on materials and craftsmanship. A well-reupholstered sofa with quality fabric and thorough work can outlast many new sofas. Sofa upholstery services that focus on the frame and internals deliver lasting results.

"All Upholsterers Are the Same"

Not really. Some just cover up issues, while others rebuild the sofa, addressing frames, springs, or padding. Ask about their process—repairs, reinforcements, or custom tweaks—to ensure quality work.

Why Reupholstery Makes Sense

Reupholstery isn't for every sofa. If yours is cheap or falling apart, a new one might be better. But if it's well-built and fits your space or style, reupholstering can transform it.

It's not just about saving money or being eco-friendly. It's about creating a piece that suits your taste and comfort. Don't let myths stop you—explore sofa upholstery services and see what's possible.
