Fascism comes in many flavors; the German Nazi version of the 1930s is the worse.
Why would anyone expect that the American version of fascism would unfold like the German or the Italian? It is unfolding more like Austria under Orban as the Republican Party promised.
Smith makes the utilitarian argument that it's bad for social justice to call our system fascism. That may be true but it would be more beneficial to hear how whatever is happening to our country now can be reversed and defeated.

Although he the US do have the German/Russian love of concentration camps and Gulags.
