So I've been hacking on DOS programs a lot recently and it's really made me realize HOW MUCH CODE they have to spend on basic windowing code! but DOS didn't have a GUI, so every program that needed it had to implement it themselves.
And then later, with Windows providing all that code, they only have to write the application-specific code, saving a lot of development and maintenance work.

So let's take a fast RISC-V or ARM chip, and put it into a wedge form factor like the Pi 500, but with a real mechanical keyboard. For software, instead of just punting and using a bog-standard Linux, we put in the work and create a new environment for programming as central to the experience.
It can still be Linux or whatever inside, that's fine. But the user never sees that. Not ever. All they see is "hit power button, READY prompt" or the like.
Give them a hybrid experience like the old Smalltalk OS/environment, where the programming language basically is the OS.
