I use alpine. You have to think of every box, not just email, as a separate folder. You need to add the folders in the folder list incoming mail folders. So for example, your inbox would be one folder and sent mail another. So on and so forth for however many addresses you have.
Be careful though.... if you want to remove a folder. I don't remember exactly how the issue works, but if you remove a folder in the wrong way, it'll remove the actual remote folder too.
You can also use a custom editor too. I use vim. nvim doesn't wrap properly for some reason even with wrap set.

Nuking potatoes as a cooking method reduces the transformation of starches to sugar in the potato during cooking...as compared to longer cooking methods, oven roasting and boiling.
Also when you refridgerate a potato after cooking, then eat it, the blood sugar response is attenuated.

So I've been hacking on DOS programs a lot recently and it's really made me realize HOW MUCH CODE they have to spend on basic windowing code! but DOS didn't have a GUI, so every program that needed it had to implement it themselves.
And then later, with Windows providing all that code, they only have to write the application-specific code, saving a lot of development and maintenance work.
Why didn't they just use a picture of a keyboard and you can click the key you'd like to choose? That's what Steam Input does, and it's super intuitive.

I'mma pitch something to you. We're gonna play pretend, and make believe that I, despite all lack of qualification, have been put in charge of designing Commodore's definitive 21st-Century product, the thing that will blaze a trail forward as the Ultimate does back.
The C64 was great because it was a fully open system. It was all right there, open to the user, you could do whatever you wanted. You could start up in BASIC and poke around, make little changes to memory and get immediate feedback. That part? Keep it.
So let's take a fast RISC-V or ARM chip, and put it into a wedge form factor like the Pi 500, but with a real mechanical keyboard. For software, instead of just punting and using a bog-standard Linux, we put in the work and create a new environment for programming as central to the experience.
It can still be Linux or whatever inside, that's fine. But the user never sees that. Not ever. All they see is "hit power button, READY prompt" or the like.
Give them a hybrid experience like the old Smalltalk OS/environment, where the programming language basically is the OS.
So you get your mouse-based WIMP GUI, but it's all integrated with the debugger and compiler and such, because this is a machine designed and intended to get you, yes you, programming.
What language? Doesn't really matter, but something clean and modern.
Imagine this, but with colourful sprites and tiles and such for games coding. Maybe not Smalltalk as the language, but that's not the point! The point is the immediacy, the interactive, iterative programming, the chance to learn without distractions.
Give it a UI designer like the old NeXT Interface Builder, with a suite of GUI components like an early version of Cocoa. Really push "this machine is for you, this machine is for programming" -- because we already have machines that run current software perfectly, who needs more of that?
Most importantly, give the users an easy way to share what they create with each other. This is something Smalltalk never got right, but something like PICO-8 does perfectly.
This is, fundamentally, a machine about creatingnewthings. It has neither the interest nor ability to be what everyone already has. It's about a new generation of people who are actually interested in computers and what they can do.
Anyone who buys this thing already has a tablet or a phone or a laptop that handles all their conventional stuff. That means you are free to offer them something those devices can't offer, don't want to offer, in fact actively hate: freedom to create.
Anyway. That's what I would do. That's what I would build: a modern machine that takes the best parts of retrocomputing and applies them to current tech.
Squeak is awesome, and for this mythical machine, you'd just need to port the VM, but if that was too heavy, there is also...this, which I think will appeal to the aesthetic you are going for, as well as the horsepower (depending on CPU chosen of course). It's a ground-up implementation of ST-80 from the original bluebook spec, written in C++ and SDL for the graphics:
