I've been pretty proud in the beginning of this experiment, because there were lots of wild bees, beetles and other cool critters around here. It's basically like being in nature.

For example, imagine laying in the grass and just chilling. Beautiful for the first 5 seconds, but then, you begin getting stung in the asscreek by a dozen ants and get everything ruined.
Nature is basically dead in my area, so only the asshole bugs survive here.
The whole balcony is swarmed by aphids/ mites as well as ant colonies that protect those suckers from ladybugs and other beneficial predatory insects.
The aphids droop honeydew everywhere, which attracts lots of yellow jacket wasps, which in return could kill my girlfriend in minutes because she's highly allergic. I didn't even realise that asshole (the wasp, lol) is there until I got stung just by existing.
I'm right about to pull the trigger and get my pesticides (neem oil/ pyrethrum extract) out.
Also, I began to hate soil even more than before. I have to hunt for slugs every evening, because they're everywhere, and I can barely stand a chance against them. There are gnats living in it too, as well as other unwanted guests.
The plants in soil are starting to spread diseases and pests to my otherwise healthy plants in hydroponics. I will for example harvest my weed soon, and there are bugs sticking in the buds like in a glue trap. I have no idea how I should get them out of them, it's just disgusting.
I also largely prefer hydro compared to soil, not only because there are less pests, but also because due to the much lower water demand and control it gives me. The soil is guzzling water like crazy and still the plants are looking way less healthy.
Spraying neem oil on my hydro plants and just not using soil anymore seems to be the way better choice right now.
but let's keep in mind that "nature" isn't sleeping beauty, it's animals and plants all trying to get one over on one another. They don't give a shit.

If you want to grow for production, out doors indoors doesn't matter. The name of the game is sanitation sanitation sanitation. And you can manage that in a mixed system.
Second, your "mites" aren't mites, they are aphids. I can't believe I have to explain this to a weed grower. Ants will move aphids around plants, effectively using them as their own form of animal agriculture. So relying on spraying doesn't solve the primary issue there. You will need to spray to get the superficial stuff under control if you want to, but getting the ants under control is the only real way to control the aphids. The ants are far better at spreading aphids than you are at managing them. Beat the ants and then beat the aphids.
As far as beating the ants. Figure out what species they are first. Plenty ants will die back a bit from a chemical spray, but then come back with a vengeance a few weeks later because stress causes them to make more queens.
What can you do? Take it all as a lesson, take some time to clear you mind about what you want to do, and give it another go after cleaning up the mess. The outdoor pot is prob unrecoverable and will be swaggy after anyways. And it's not clear why you are growing. Figure out what you want from growing and focus on doing that effectively.
If you want nature, that comes with slugs and wasps and ants. And mixed systems can be effective (my garden has probably a hundred different species). But it takes a long time and a lot of experience to have the knowledge to be able to identify issues early and respond appropriately for each plant in a mixed system.

Are you saying your phrasing is flawless and no other person could articulated as seamlessly as you did thereby being a comprehension issue?
This thread is popping up for weeks since I first replied. I can assure you the original links posted by @vermaden@bsd.cafe would work if you understand the basics and then follow them. In my case I tested similar partition layout on my laptop where a single disk in GPT layout was used to install #FreeBSD and #OpenBSD. The two systems share a common #EFI partition. But I didn't use the VM image for installing FreeBSD though, which I would not say is substantially important.

The article only talks about using a VM image but never says what to to use to boot from USB to start the installation. You say a VM image is not important but he only gives instructions for using VM. I booted and installed #FreeBSD first using a USB flash drive made by dd and the standard memstick img. I say its is not important because you aim is to install the system, which should not matter which media you use. In my case I did not even use the standard installed for this because I want to customize some partition sizes (see link below for details from a FreeBSD wiki page I found useful examples). I will laugh out loud if only I am capable of making the elitist statement about #BSD stuff since I only started to try #FreeBSD for not too long and I knew almost nothing about system development. To you my friend, patiently read the tutorials posted by @vermaden@bsd.cafe and make plans about the steps you will have to take, try in a VM if you are not sure. The main question is how to prepare a partition for ZFS not a disk, and then install system on it, not about which install media you use.

@swelljoe That's the thing, though: Commodore don't need to take over the world. The investment is low seven figures, which means they only need to make a quality product or five that make a reasonable profit.
yeah, I think the folks behind it are making very reasonable choices. They're not slapping the brand on bullshit (e.g. cheap PC clones with a dumb-ass Linux version that looks like it's made by/for children), which is a great start. They're embracing all the folks who are already working in the space...the people who have implemented Commodore computers and accessories and software from scratch in various ways.
I'd love to see a ~$400 Amiga 1200. Fingers crossed that comes to pass.
@swelljoe I'm 100% certain they'd love to do that -- but it faces more barriers, because the Amiga IP wasn't included in the sale. Licensing it is certainly possible (THEA500 is a thing after all!) so maybe.

yeah, I'm not informed enough to make any recommendations. I love the Commodore 64, but I feel like it's not quite enough computer to spend a lot of time with. I want 80 columns, stereo sound, and a wee bit more color and pixels. Not a lot, mind you. Just a little more. A Commodore 128 would almost scratch the itch (the 80-column graphics chip has too many limitations to really do the job). The C65 definitely does scratch the itch, but I don't know how broad that nostalgia is.
@swelljoe Based on who is involved and what I know they can do, I seriously think there's more coming than just a new C64. It would be a waste of talent otherwise. You don't need Jeri or Bil to put out a rebadged Ultimate 64 in a nice case.

yeah, it's nostalgic, but expensive and delivers no real value. You can't even really buy floppies anymore, we're all just re-using old stock made 20 years ago and hoping it doesn't die. A lower-cost version of the C65 without the drive would be fantastic.

The things that will be shipping with the Commodore name are things that already exist, and could exist without this having happened. They're cool things, and they don't need a Commodore name to be cool, but having the Commodore name may bring in new people who didn't know how to tap into the retro Commodore community.
but, folks who want Commodore to return as a colossus that ships world-record numbers of units and ushers in a new era of personal computing are going to be disappointed. Nobody can do that because the world has changed.
It's dumb to hate on this stuff because it's a realistic plan meant for hobbyists, not for the masses. If they can increase production runs by tapping into a broader market with effective branding and marketing, they can drive prices down some, but that's about it.

People were really invested in that, and there were so many dumb and sad disappointments along the way. Management failures, Gateway, Escom, all that bullshit. @cstross it is so incredibly hard to hire low-level hardware+firmware devs. In the valley, they're paid a fortune and are often terrible. But so few people know how to do it that "terrible" is better than nothing. And, they trend much older than the average frontend or cloud developer.
@cstross I mean, we're still shipping ten+ year old microcontrollers in our robots. Partly because they don't need more capability and partly because the firmware folks we've had haven't been up to the task of major upgrades. We have people who could do it, but it'd require dropping everything else.
So, at some point it becomes retrocomputing, because you need an old Windows to run the old Keil compiler to build the old source. (We're not at that point, but I can see it happening.)
to be fair, the Amiga wasn’t „real“ Commodore either. And the Atari ST arguably more Commodore than the ST. 😀 Either way: I am looking from the sidelines how this turns out. I am not in the market for the machine, but maybe others are…?
@cstross @swelljoe Is that really such a risk? I get the impression that there is always a good fraction of programmers interested in low-level, close-to-the-hardware stuff. Often more than there is demand for really, with most embedded programming being pretty high-level nowadays.
@artwaw @cstross @swelljoe It's neat. But it's also going to face an uphill climb to get people to develop for it -- and as someone putting out a system with even fewer units than that, I know what that means.

that's noise. I'm more concerned about the people taking issue with the fact that it's a for profit endeavor. I mean, it's SMALL, it's niche, it's driven by people with a documented history of loving what the brand stood for... Is anybody allowed to sell anything anymore? I'm pissed at capitalism as much as the next person, but... Who is this hurting?

Nur um auszubuchstabieren, was das bedeutet, dass die einzige Gegenstimme die Position von Myanmar und Türkiye vertritt: d.h. das ist jemand, der ohnehin schon bekanntermaßen eben •nicht• eine völkerrechtliche Mehrheitsmeinung repräsentiert. Und der obendrein einen Anreiz hat, nicht rein die vorliegende Sachlage zu beurteilen, sondern aufpasst, seinen früheren Interpretationen nicht zu widersprechen.
@bifouba In der Tat. Damit auch die Gegenseite der Bundesregierung etwa in Myanmar in der die Bundesregierung dafür plädierte die Genozidkonvention weit auszulegen.
💧 Underwater turbine spinning for 6 years off Scotland’s coast is a breakthrough for tidal energy
The MeyGen tidal energy project off the coast of Scotland has four turbines producing 1.5 megawatts each, enough electricity collectively to power up to 7,000 homes annually. On Thursday, the Swedish company SKF announced that its bearings and seals on one of the turbines had passed the 6 1/2-year mark without needing unplanned or disruptive maintenance. It has been working closely with the industry for a decade on design and testing.
