Interesting, that Typhoid Mary desert. I hadn't heard that she made deadly ice cream. Just that she refused to cook for people. Even after the NY health Dept. told her to stop.

It was better pay cooking, than maid work. Eventually they sent her to a NY island (N. Brothers) to live in isolation.

They probably could have just removed her appendix. Where the Typhoid germ was harbored. A lot of germs stay safe there.

I've just finished reading _Technofeudalism_ by Yanis Varoufakis. If he's right, then it's politically urgent to escape from the clutches of Meta, Google, Amazon and the like as soon as possible.

Varoufakis' arguments reminded me of _Chokepoint Capitalism_ by Rebecca Giblin and @pluralistic, though according to Varoufakis the dominance of Amazon and the like has killed off capitalism and is a form of feudalism. I still want to compare these two analyses more carefully.

But Varoufakis' argument is: these platforms have managed to lure people in to work for them for free, and with every post and update on their platforms, these exploitative and massively dangerous companies grow stronger and harder to defeat. On the other hand, if the people take back social media and the internet more generally, there's a real opportunity for building a counter-movement with these technologies.

The lesson I take from this: getting people to quit the capitalist platforms and join the #Fediverse is part of political organisation, and possibly an important part if you consider the way people are tethered to their Instagram and Tiktok.

Let me repeat this: Convincing and helping comrades to quit the capitalist platforms and join the Fediverse is an important form of revolutionary political organisation. ✊

It was unsurprising because we have seen this play out again and again: horrifying atrocities happening that can be traced directly back to the unchecked spread of misinformation and hate speech.

& this isn't just letting the stray oblique racist comment slide, either— this is stuff like major influential figures calling for violence, it's massive troll farms laying the groundwork for ethnic cleansing and operating with impunity. As one colleague of mine puts it, "Facebook is just like 4chan".

My dentist had 2 liberals in separate rooms talking about how awful Trump is. She pulled them both aside separately and said she won't tolerate it in public. There's another patient who telling her all about it, lol. She had to sit in her chair while the dr. explained some truths. I told her don't ever give me an appt when they're in the office. I won't be silent. 😎
