This is a focus-group-driven buzzword and talking point to create an imaginary bogeyman as the main anti 2nd Amendment propaganda tool. There are PEOPLE who commit violence with guns, but there are many more people who commit violence without them. And, since the term "gun violence" is a catchword/cliche, the title suggests an unattainable goal. People have been robbing and killing other people, using the weapons of the day, since the beginning of man on this planet, which identifies the real issue - controlling criminal impulses in humans, not the otherwise legal instruments they use to commit crimes.
Anyone who doesn't realize and/or acknowledge this isn't thinking, s/he is 'feeling', and our liberty cannot depend upon what anybody 'feels'.

I just thought of the most evil idea in history. I was thinking about careers, and how companies don’t want to hire new people, because they don’t want to train them, because if they train them they expect people will go to other companies to get a raise. Well that’s a huge problem, and it’s essentially insurmountable, and it’s why the university system is so bad.
I was thinking, what if, instead of going to college, a prospective worker paid to work at a company? They would get paid a wage, but they would have to pay what they earned back (with interest, realistically, since we’re being evil here), and in exchange, they got a paid job that would teach them skills at year 0 of their career. Of course the paying intern would have every incentive to leave ASAP, but the company would get their money back and would be paid to train their employee. Sounds incredibly fucked up but idk, it could work? There has to be some way for the company to monetize transferring skills to year 0 workers, and they’re not going to open up the kindness of their heart to them, because that’s why we’re getting all these H1bs. And it’s kinda like a startup when you think about it. You get money to develop your idea into a project, but instead you get money to kickstart your career. Then you could get year 0 experience at a good company, and possibly pay less than you would for a student loan with dubious positive outcomes, while living off the work. Just an idea. Maybe someone will kill me in me sleep tonight for it.

Also to erm aktually it's not the payment processors it's the advertisers who think it's bad brand recognition or something to advertise some shitty car next to a guy that says fuck in a video once

I'm not sure if this is a thing already but it might improve the situation if advertisers could select the "level" of content restriction they're comfortable with advertising on (e.g "fuck" is ok but I don't want my car ad on bum fights). I know they can select for categories (e.g politics) but that doesn't necessarily translate well.

One of the coolest things about attempting to grow native plants in a basic hydroponic system is that I get to watch the plants adapt to a sharp change in environment (after transplantation from outdoors). I'm getting used to the fact that there are plants that can make the transition and those that can't, but also seeing some really interesting cases where it looks like the plant is dying a slow death, going into dormancy, and then experiencing a delayed 'rebirth'. This is a photo of the sedge root, from a plant that had essentially been dormant for the past three months. Its leaves retained a bit of chlorophyll, but most of them died back and it put on no new growth over that time. Finally, in the past few days, its root reached water. What is really interesting is that this root is covered in dense hair-like micro-roots (I have seen this from plants started from cuttings in water, but not from the other native plants I've tried). When in soil, this plant does not display this: a single round root with only an occasional hair. Again, really neat example of the adjustment of the plant to the change in habitat. I believe that these root hairs are an adaptation that increases its oxygen-uptake (I'm not an aquatic plant person), not usually needed in its soil environment. Just theorizing here, but its root hairs also may be a product of an environment free of pests, where the more delicate tissues of the hair are not prey to the normal array of soil herbivores. By the way, this is a perfect example of the modularity of plants, how they can adapt their morphology to the environment in ways that animals usually cannot. Also a cool example of the balance of the root and shoot systems.

The central plant, a Tick Trefoil, found in woodlands, has had its early years stalked growth die back slowly over the past few months, where most clorophyll is gone from the dried leaves. Just in the last two days, a new stalk has appeared. If you look below the pellet filled lid, a slight, four inch root has just appeared, reaching down into the water. Basically, now that the plant has 'adjusted' its root modularity to reach the water, it is no longer operating at a net water loss, allowing it to put up new shoot growth. The planned cell death of the leaves was fascinating to watch, as it happened extremely slowly - clearly the plant was conserving energy from the leaves instead of sloughing them off quickly (unlike some others that died back immediately). I wasn't expecting it to recover, but I had no idea that it was making a run for the water below and I just had to wait a couple months. The arching grass-like leaf across the photo is the first major growth of a sedge. See next photo.
