Une sélection de #LogicielsLibres faite par @louisderrac qui constate – et je partage cet avis – que d'une manière générale, l'ergonomie de très nombreux logiciels libres utilisables sous Linux s'est améliorée depuis quelques années.
J'ajoute que je ne connaissais pas un seul de ces 10 logiciels, et j'adore cette richesse et ce foisonnement dans le monde du libre !
Depuis trois ans maintenant que je travaille exclusivement sous Linux (plus précisément sous Fedora et l’environnement de bureau Gnome), j’ai découvert, testé et approuvé des dizaines de logiciels que j’utilise désormais quasi quotidiennement.
Après plus de 10 ans avec Ubuntu (et donc Gnome), je suis depuis 5 ans avec Linux Mint Cinnamon. J'ai arrêté Ubuntu à cause des Snap, et je n'aime pas du tout les paquets Snap ou Flatpack, etc. c'est toujours des trucs gigantesques à télécharger. Exemple avec l'éditeur de texte minimaliste Eloquent qui te fait télécharger en truc de 1,2 Go !!! (cf. image). Pour un outil minimaliste, c'est un comble.
Je ne veux pas (ou le moins possible) de trucs de ce genre.
@tanavit Vous êtes dans l'environnement Gnome ? Parce que je pense que c'est un vrai prisme. Et sinon je les ai découverts via Flathub notamment. Et nombre de ces logiciels sont assez récents 😀
Ni flat, ni snap pour moi, non mais ho j'veux des .deb épicétout ! Quelques appimage a la rigueur. Trop de sort proposent flat par défaut sans rien d'autres. Tant pis, je ne les utiliserait pas. Même engeance pour moi que ceux qui ne te proposent que du docker... 🤢
@tanavit est-ce le premier Flatpak que tu installe sur ta machine ? si oui le téléchargement d'1 à 3Go est normal : il télécharge le runtime, ça ne sera plus le cas pour les Flatpak suivants.
Personnellement je préfère Flatpak parce qu'on peut les installer dans l'utilisateur, sans avoir les droits admins, donc niveau sécurité, c'est bien mieux qu'apt qui exécute des scripts en tant que root.
Après évidemment sur serveur c'est toujours apt qui règne à raison.
@tanavit mes grands-parents par exemple sont sous Linux, ils n'ont pas le code du compte admin de leur ordinateur, et leur utilisateur n'a que le droit de faire les majs (automatiques) depuis GNOME Software. Ils n'ont pas le droit d'installer de nouveaux paquets.
Mais on a configuré Flatpak pour qu'ils aient Flathub en mode utilisateur, donc les applications apparaissent bien dans Software et sont installable directement dans leur dossier utilisateur. Pratique et sécur !

Turns out that I can have a modern version of MinGW build a C++ program with newer stuff like unique_ptr and it will make an executable that my Windows 98 VM will run just fine. I have not verified that it would actually work on a 486, but I assume that if that actually becomes a problem that I need to solve at some point then I can compile libraries myself with -march=i486.
I think my takeaway here is that if I want to make a graphical program and I want older OS/computer support, that probably isn't going to be a force that puts a constraint on how the program's main logic is written, but it does mean that it would be a good idea to implement a SDL 1.2 UI, maybe alongside an option to use something more modern.
