I think you made the right choice, as much as you might miss them it doesn't bear thinking about what might happen with that road and them being unfamiliar with the environment just makes that more of a hazard. .

those two apps, importantly, sideload other apps themselves. tachiyomiSY is a fork of a fork of something alongside the long sprawling tree of mihon forks, essentially manga readers. TSY boasts integration with exhentai, which is why i have it, it’s the best way to read it. but importantly, integrations beyond that are all external, you need to type in a link and download them, and they install as apps too
revanced is our tried and true one. youtube is the most miserable experience on earth if you are neither paying them nor using adblocks (and honestly, sponsorblocks). Revanced makes youtube decent, and while I can live without easy access to exhentai, this one would REALLY suck major ass. there’s no good solution that still allows all the stuff i like, like floating videos
the revanced team seems strangely ok with it, and i suspect their strategy will be to offload the signing part to the user. you make a developer account to sign off your own apps. google still doesn’t scan the apps themselves mind you, so, it’s not like they can do much in that regard (for now)

i know the linux crowd will say to unlock your device, install a custom rom, but come on, while i wish everything could have custom roms, the capitalist, closed reality of smartphones isn’t this way. a lot of users run Samsung, which already have no custom rom support because of knox (and now due to bootloader locking on oneui 8) Xiaomi devices are increasingly difficult to unlock too, as an example
