I wish to say out loud, here and now, that I think that a component of Trump's win in 2024 will be the large chunks of traditionally Democrat voters such as retired or soon to retire boomers, liberal soccer moms with family salaries being plowed into 401k accounts, and union workers with pension funds similarly invested.

I am not going to attempt to put these forward here, especially given my limited economic literacy, but suffice to say that I am persuaded by those who throw up statistics, graphs, and indices that show unprecedented buildup of pressure against the markets.
Link these looming potential share price collapses to the vulnerable residential and commercial real estate sectors, and you have a perfect storm of equity destruction looming, and looming fast.
The pain from inflation has thus far been incremental, the pot being slowly turned up under the frog. The growing lawlessness associated with the border is still largely ignored by those not directly feeling its effects. So too with the fentanyl crisis. The wars in Ukraine and Gaza are sufficient to motivate liberals to put flags on their social media handles, but that is about as far as it goes for most people.
And, of course, there is the persistent self-delusion and wilful blindness that afflicts the left so acutely.
Trump has said that his plan for victory is to flood the ballot boxes with a cheat-proof landslide. Well, given their capabilities, it is pretty clear that merely getting high turnout from MAGA will not be enough. Even the eroding support for Democrats among blacks and hispanics, a trend that will continue, is likely not nearly enough.
The first one is wider warfare that sees American troops being killed in action and with potential American civilians killed in terrorist attacks. This is a terribly real possibility and I desperately hope that there is sufficient sanity baked into the system (you don't need to tell me how thin this hope may actually be) to prevent such from taking place.
The second force is financial catastrophe that threatens the long term economic health of the voters, including especially their retirement resources. Their pensions, 401k accounts, and their homes. A sudden, sharp downturn in these sectors could terrify these voters enough to force change in their voting habits.
And Trump could easily see this as an inevitable consequence of several years of Biden's ineptitude. One does not need to resort to secret unconstitutional plans when one has gamed out the Democrats options and likely actions. It seems inevitable that Biden will blow up the economy even more than he already has and more and more people are going to be convinced that MAGA is the only way to save their futures.
And then we have the perfect appearance of Kennedy into the race. He provides a palatable alternative to Trump while still denying the Democrats their vote. Trump is in a perfect position to harvest as many disaffected voters as possible while seeing many more shunted over to Kennedy.
I think it is a very good time to protect yourself from a share market collapse. Hopefully you are not mortgaged to the hilt with a high interest loan such that you can ride out a dip in prices. And perhaps look at hedges like gold too.

So my daughter is going stir crazy, while recuperating from her injury and surgery. So I suggest we make a chocolate house for Christmas. So we bought chocolate molds and some really good melting chocolate from a chocolate shop. I had her plan it out and told her I would help her assemble it. She loved the idea. I had no idea it would take 5 hours to do. It was good therapy for her but a bit of torture for me. Im so glad its done. My back will never be the same.

@wjmaggos Problem is that Biden also had very serious issues and Harris indicated she agreed with his policies. The goal was to get a less shitty Dem--first by having Biden replaced and then, when Harris became the candidate, to attempt to push her to change some of her policies.
It was clear that if Harris did not change her policies, there was no path to victory in the electoral college so no point in compromising principles and voting for her.
It is impossible to describe the relief I feel reading a student paper that has grammar errors, typos, missing words, or second-language idiosyncracies and I can confidently read the work knowing my student actually wrote it and is expressing their knowledge in their own words.
@Dave_Goldsmith @kungfyurii This is a shocking change in attitudes of students from my time in college. The idea of copy pasting anything and then representing it as my own work is anathema. There was no doubt that was cheating. In college, I might have gotten a stern warning for a first offense and suspension for a second. Clearly things have changed. What rules do you enforce?
