Ugh. One of the worst apps on my phone (which I use because the door controls are even worse), which controls the appliance that I *ALREADY* overpaid for, is switching to a subscription model.

I get to maintain "free" access… for now.

I'd hate this less If this app wasn't so terrible.

"But maintaining an app costs money!" you say.

Of course it does, but they need to do that to sell new ovens, anyway, and this is a secondary offering. They sold me the appliance, not the app (but now both…).

in reply to Sean Coates

This is the #Anova Precision Oven, btw. They have a new version. Despite how much I use the v1 oven, I don't think I can recommend the v2, given this cash grab.

Two weeks ago I had to tear into this thing to fix a wire that wore through, inside the door, prematurely. I fixed it by soldering, shrink-tubing, kapton taping. This is not normal "I bought an appliance less than 5 years ago" stuff.

If I didn't actually *use* this thing so much, I'd pretty seriously look into replacing the firmware.

This morning we saw the first ever tornado warning issued for San Francisco. Seeing many reports of wind and water damage around NorCal today.

A tornado may not have actually touched down in SF but, with the direction the climate is going, I'm glad to know our alerting systems work.

Take it from those of us in fire country and who have friends and family who've lost houses, loved ones, and more to delayed alerts: it's far better to err on the side of caution.

CV NEWS FEED // An unidentified hero destroyed a statue of Baphomet–the symbol of the Church of Satan– set up as a “holiday display” outside of the Statehouse in Concord, New Hampshire.

The Post Millennial reports that the Satanic Temple, which is based in Salem, Massachusetts, placed the statue near a Nativity scene outside the Statehouse, and the officials allowed the display to “avoid litigation.”

How about a nice #sudoku game for #plasmamobile, nice with #kirigami ui, using your plasma theme? It is of course very much in prototyping stage, everything is qml - no backend - but it is actually possible to play it even if there is no checking - let alone fanphares - if you finsh a game ... :-)
Next step is adding support for pencilmarks, which is likey tricky.

I'm fully focused on mobile behavior, but it can of course be made to work nicely in desktop as well ...

Well, that was easy :) Looks like Kitten¹ is going to be a great way to build and deploy Penpot Plugins.

Took me no time at all to port Kitten Kawaii² to a Penpot³ plugin. All in all, had to write 10 lines of extra code.

Might enter this in the plugin contest⁴ that’s going on and write something up about it next.

One of the advantages of deploying Kitten sites/apps is that you can set up a webhook URL in your source code repository so that every time you push to your main branch, you app automatically updates.

(This is a feature for developers. For everyday people who use technology as an everyday thing, Kitten sites deployed via Domain will automatically update based on a versioning system that ensures API stability between the app and Kitten so that sites don’t break. Kitten itself also auto-updates.)

@ctietze Thanks. It’s pretty simple, really:

On the Codeberg/Forgejo side, they use git hooks to make a HTTPS request to the webhook URL whenever there’s a push (in this case, only to the main branch).

On the Kitten side, Kitten deploys apps from their git repositories so all it has to do is pull in the latest changes.

This is the webhook code on the Kitten side of things:

@metacurity@infosec.exchange A-men! And what do those 550 employees actually *do*? And as someone that has worked in IT for over 30 years (at all levels) you damn well better know it doesn't cost anywhere NEAR the amount of money that Wikipedia says they spend on infrastructure and hosting costs annually. Smells more like a money laundering operation for Jimmy Wales than anything else.

If you actually want to advocate for Long COVID, you have to tell the story of the 90% of Long COVID cases that look like something else.

Did you suddenly get diabetes type I after a COVID case? Probably caused by COVID. Did you suddenly get high blood pressure after never having it before? Probably COVID. Did your ADHD get so much worse you had to completely change and increase your medication? COVID. Did you fall into a deep depression? Did you find yourself having a temper? COVID COVID.

in reply to John

Alcohol intolerance? COVID.
Caffeine intolerance? COVID.
Arthritis at 30? COVID.
Interstitial cystitis, esp in men? Absolutely COVID.

Sudden IBS/IBD after a lifetime of no gut problems? That's COVID.
Celiac's disease at mid-life? Probably COVID.

The destruction of health by tiny degrees, by hammer blows of infection, each of which knock something else just a little out of alignment. It's gonna flower soon, and all of a sudden.

in reply to John

Thought experiment:

Your friend who is SURE that they "would have heard about it" if COVID was causing all this stuff, passes a billboard that says

Can't drink alcohol anymore?
Looks like Long COVID.

and comes up to you and says "you know how alcohol has been hitting me super hard lately and making me feel really sick for days? Do you think that could be a form of Long COVID?"

Boom. Step one to reversing the gaslighting of America.

Have you ever heard of the #HarrisonClock? What about a #Maritime #Chronometer?

In the 1700s #JohnHarrison, a carpenter -- not a horologist -- invented a clock that could keep time while at sea.

Such a thing seems trivial today but up until Harrison's clock such a feat had never been achieved before.

And why is it important to tell time while you're at sea?

So you can calculate your #Longitude.

What an amazing #story, and what an amazing #movie.

Justice is coming to thousands upon thousands for their corruption, crimes against humanity, treason, child & sex trafficking, drug trafficking, & other heinous crimes, it is best we get our terminology right.

Jail & prison are often used interchangeably as places of confinement. If you want to be specific jail can be used to describe a place for those awaiting trial or held for minor crimes, whereas prison describes a place for criminals convicted of serious crimes.

Katrin Albrecht, Tina Mede, Remo Klinger, Charlotte Dreyer

@pna@fed.dyne.org Imagine all the extra energy and electricity that's going to use as millions of clients have to process those requests (generating new private keys and submitting the CSRs via ACME to Let's Encrypt.) Not to mention all the extra energy in the extra data and banwidth that needs to be process and deliver all those requests and transactions. Then there's the added electricity and bandwidth Let's Encrypt's own PKI infrastructure needs to process and issue all those certificates. They are talking about a 1400% increase in traffic and requests. It probably means a whole lot more servers, HSMs, networking, etc. All consuming electricity. Here we are worried about the environmental impact of AI, but there is a tangible environmental impact to certificates with 6 day life cycles, too.

"EU Commission tried to influence political views in the Netherlands. In the contentious fight over the heavily criticized chat control regulation (a proposed EU law that could undermine all encrypted online communication to allow authorities to read online chats), the European Commission has identified the Netherlands as a Member State that they wanted to influence politically. In an attempt to "flip" the views in the Netherlands, the Commission went to X/Twitter and made postings indirectly promoting this Regulation."

Isn't it funny how it's a felony to open physical mail before it's delivered, but it's perfectly fine for #Google #Yahoo #Microsoft etc to scan your mail for advertising profiling? A public #nonprofit free #email service is greatly needed. Even one that could run partially on donations like public radio/television. All email clients with a smidge of #privacy cost money that a lot of people can't afford right now. The #Proton free tier seems too restrictive for most. Email is mandatory nowadays

😆 The no virus crew is working hard to stay relevant.

Niel Oliver points out it's much more important to focus on what they did in the name of the virus than whether one exists or where it came from.

I mean... What's more important? Whether a special molecule with special properties exists or not or the response to the idea that it exists which caused a lot of deaths (by murder)? 🤔

So they inject David Icke to refocus again on the importance of whether the virus exists but not on why it matters. 🤔

Anyhow probably only worth skimming (like what I did).
