if you are routinely trained to not notice those sensations, your abilities to easily know "how you really feel" *will* become blunted.
And that produces shallow, plastic, people. Who will often chase after perceived status or ready made personality types because they have no idea what else to do.
People not in touch with their authentic selves can be pretty easily manipulated into doing all kinds of stuff, and buying all kinds of things…for show/status.
and as a group they are (pretty much inevitably) damned insecure and defensive at core, since they've buried whoever they were meant to be, and instead bought into the idea they "should be" or "need to be" a certain way in the world.
This also helps explain why "in group" and "out group" dynamics (xenophobic tendencies) tend to be (much) stronger when the group is full of folks with authoritarian "dominate or be dominated' understandings of how the world works.
