in the chat from yesterday's stream, vaxnonsense mentioned that he/she think vitamin D is a scam.

Jim Stephenson (Stephensen?) writes about this and rants about how it is a scam.

i have pondered vit D supplementation over the years. one winter recently, i didn't supplement it at all. had some blood work done in the spring and had great levels (recall that i live in north idaho where it's dark at 4pm for almost half the year). this past fall, my level was in the basement.

there's a FB guy, Piero Odell (who used to go by the name Paleo Osteo)... an Australian osteopath, creator of the Mitogen pod, Jack Kruse follower, who also writes the occasional rant that vitamin D supplementation is garbage.

If an AI is writing the paper, and including made up citations, that no one catches until after they are selling the thing, then no, I don't trust anything in the paper, and I don't know why anyone else would. I don't know what nano cancer vaccines are, but that's kinda beside the point that this is what passes for scholarship nowadays. "As an AI, I cannot give medical advice." That was in the book. That's the problem I'm on about -- I'm an ontologist, not a oncologist, after all.

My Ivermectin miracle.

In 2019, I was in peak form-lean, strong, kind of shape people notice.
Then I got sick.

From Jan 20 - Apr 25, I lived with a lung condition no one could fix.
Over 1,900 days believing this was forever then it was gone in under 1 hr.
“Ivermectin.”

To delete data, plus the backups, took quite a substantial, organized effort with the complicity with a lot of people having high level IT access 🤔

We've seen this in the Lerner/IRS case and from Hillary.

High time this kind of criminal activity is punished appropriately!

So the #FDA has lowered its #labor expenses only to jack-up their #OpEx instead.

In no universe is a #contractor less expensive than a #FTE.

Fucking morons... #Trump, #Musk, #DOGE, this entire Shitler regime! #USpol

I was thinking that too but then DOGE just cancelled a bunch of Accenture contracts for actual contractors helping out some of the agencies.

I think it's so they can accurately say they've lowered their labor expenses at the {cough} expense {cough} of increasing their operational expenses.

But even that doesn't make sense now that I think about it.

Adolf said DOGE was going to cut out government waste and expenditures and rehiring all the people you laid off as contractors is directly counter to that.

Eh...

Who knows.

On the topic of 2FA (2nd factor authentication), I really do need to find an alternative that:

1) Is cloud based sync service, but can also run locally
2) Does not require you to set up on your own server
3) Can be used on multiple devices
4) Is not limited to specific hardware.
5) Can export and import if needed.
6) Outside Us Jurisdiction

If I seem to be repeating my requirements, it is because there are so many unhelpful people, who believe they are being helpful, by ignoring all those requirements. - I said, what I said.

Downtime - Apologies and what went wrong

Hi All,

As some of you may have realised, the planned upgrade sort of crashed everything, and we had our longest period of downtime since the site began.

This is partly because I had to go to sleep (thanks to a newborn and a job).

The good news is that the backup process worked! We've restored to seconds before the upgrade took the site offline.

The bad news is that federation is likely to be.. wonky.. for a little while. The site may also go up and down while I undo some of the fixes I tried.

Ultimately the issue came down to the upgrade failing (I am not sure why - will be digging into this now the priority is no longer getting the site up) and then the containers not talking to eachother, so the UI wouldn't talk to lemmy, and lemmy wouldn't talk to the database.

I rebuilt the containers, restored the backup, restarted everything, and it's all come back up (admittedly not perfect right now).

Importantly, I want to issue an apology. This isn't what I want for Lemmy.zip, and it should've been handled way better by myself. I'm always learning but this took way longer than it should've, and while I take some solace in the fact the backup process worked and has been proven to work in production, the delay in being able to get this back up is entirely my fault and frankly unacceptable.

I'll be working to document this outage, the steps it took to get it back up, and some form of repeatable plan so a repair can be replicated in the future if I'm not available.

In terms of upgrading to 0.19.11 - I will have to try again soon as it's got some security fixes we desperately need to implement.

Thanks

Demigodrick

Peruvians are very proud of their hats. They wear hats shaped like different geographical features. It's less true in modern times, but you used to be able to tell where a Peruvian was born based on the type of hat they wore.

I think I spent $80 US on that hat which is probably more than the locals in that part of Lima make in a weak.

It was a really good hat. I miss it.

The real story with the fake Dire Wolf de-extinction story is how gullible and unreliable American science news reporting is. Even the biggest news organizations had no one capable of stopping them from publishing a dishonest PR release from a dubious company trying to game the news cycle for some unearned publicity. This is what happens when you fire all your actual science news reporters.

  1. Pandemievertrag der WHO:
Juli 2025 aktiv widerspricht.
Ohne Widerspruch – volle Zustimmung. Ganz einfach.

Wird es wieder so laufen wie immer?
Alle schauen weg. Medien schweigen. Bürger sind mit allem anderen beschäftigt.
Und am Ende heißt es: „Jetzt ist es zu spät.“

Nicht diesmal.

As someone who has been doing residential moving work for over a decade, I have worked for many clients who were gay couples, and many clients who were lesbian couples.

The pattern I have noticed is that gay couples have clean homes and tend to be fairly organized on moving.

By contrast, lesbians are absolutely disgusting, filthy animals. I got sticky mystery slime on my hands twice yesterday from moving couches and desks owned by lesbians. Seriously, what the funk?

I'm charging lesbians extra $$ from now on.
