OK! I was finally able to ask Yanis Varoufakis if he knows copyleft and the free software movement are behind him and if he'll work more with the EFF to push for public ownership of "the cloud".

I really want him to see and use the power of copyleft in his strategies with DiEM25 and the Progressive International. Neither group is much in the #Fediverse yet, I've noticed. But the political infrastructure exists!

I won a little victory over Big Corporate!

So I ordered some Puma shoes online a few weeks ago - big mistake. First and last time for me. The package never arrived, so I asked Puma's "support" what's up, and after a back-and-forth with 5 different people and/or AI chatbots, I ended up receiving 2 PDFs that I had to fill in and send back.

But the PDFs were full of dumb questions, like my name/address, the order #, track & trace number, etc, STUFF THAT THEY ALREADY HAVE BECAUSE THEY SENT ME THE PACKAGE!! #%$@!

And I have no idea how to edit PDFs; guess I'd have to install some PDF editor and blah blah.. ain't nobody got time for that.

So I mailed something back like, "I don't have energy for this. You already have all this info." and I got a reply that they really needed this, else they couldn't start the money-back procedure and blah blah

BUT then I went searching for legal info on this kind of thing, and discovered that the webshop is 100% responsible for this problem; that if the package doesn't arrive, I can have my money back without all this trouble.

So I mailed back a few URLs with quotes from legal sites, and that I want to cancel the deal (in Dutch "Ik ontbind hierbij de koop" were the magic words).

Honestly I had already accepted that I would never get my money back, and I'd just leave an angry comment on Trustpilot or smth to cope.

But guess what? After a week of silence, I got a reply that my money is returned. Without having to go to the trouble of filling in their dumbass PDFs.

les SMR (les "petits" réacteurs nucléaires modulaires), sont des produits jetables, la plupart ne prévoient pas qu'on puisse les réalimenter...
il y a donc multiplication des déchets et donc du risque de gestion sur 150 000 ans (des durées tellement longues que personne ne sait comment faire)

Par ailleurs, ils peuvent être mobiles et donc se retrouver dans des villes ou des lieux fortement habités avec le risque d'accident catastrophique qui correspond surtout que leur nombre sera démultiplié.
actuellement la France à 19 sites (pour 57 réacteurs), on parle avec les SMR de milliers de sites... de la folie !

quand on dit que les accidents n'auront "pas la même échelle" c'est oublier cette multiplication des sites, de la gestions par du personnel moins spécialisé, du contrôle plus difficile sur des sites privés

Bug fix about remote liking, boosting and following


You can sometimes neither like nor boost articles, nor follow someone on remote instances now. This happen when target article's title or writer's name includes non-ASCII characters. This problem will be fixed in the next release.

This fix is applied to this fediverse.blog instance.

Menu improvement for iOS


@marek-lach fixed an issue that menu is not opened even though you tap the menu icon.

I have neither iPhone, iPad nor macOS. I'm so glad if you try it and send feedbacks, though surely I will test it before next release (should be 0.6.1 or 0.7.0).

Riker actor system library


This was a long time refactoring. Riker is an actor system library for Rust. By actor model, we can get simple perspective of system archtecture keeping it easy to write asynchronous tasks. This should make Plume more stable and performant.

@meena repeated trial & error many times, and eventually wrote a design doc. That's a great work. Thank you.

Proxy support


@dr-bonez sended a pull request to introduce proxy support and it was merged. You can run Plume and make it federate with the fediverse behind a proxy server.

Logging fundamental


I added tracing logging library. I intend to use it for investigation of federation problems in the near future. We are often reported federation issues. Fixing it is so hard if we cannot reproduce the problem on our development environment. At that time, we need record logs on production environment, and tracing should be a fundamental to help us well.

Musl build effort


This is not our improvement, but what @pwFoo is attempting. Musl is a alternate libc for static link. By building Plume with it, you can get more portable binary and run Plume on variuos machines including Alpine Linux. See the issue if you're interested in it.

Rust version update


We updated Rust version to nightly-2021-01-15.

Some day suddenly building Docker image on Docker hub failed. To fix it, we need to upgrade some crates and update Rust version. If you build Plume from source code, newer Rust will be donwloaded automatically according to rust-toolchain file.

Milestone 0.7.0


I create the 0.7.0 milestone on our Gitea instance and added some issues there. Those are not promises but useful for me to get concentrated on current task without keeping other tasks in my mind. He got his PhD from YALE when he was 22/23, (1948). Extraordinary.
He was appointed as an Asst. Professor in Genetics at UWisc (Madison, WI) in 1947-- BEFORE he earned his PhD. Grad students being appointed as faculty was quite common during postwar and wartime US. But age 21/22 is simply incredible.
He became a full Professor in 1954-- At the age of 28/29. That's unheard of.
He established the medical genetics department at UWisc in 1957 and became a member of the nat'l academy of sciences (NAS) in the same year. Becoming a member of NAS by age of 31/32-- That's insane!

Had no children with this first wife.
Second wife worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK). Two children with second wife.
First wife earned her PhD from UWisc in 1950.
Second wife was an MD and Clinical Psychiatry Professor at MSK.

Is it common for children to change their last names?
His son's name is David Kirsch. Hmm..
Quite possibly unrelated to baldy Kirsch of VSRF.

Yes! The video I was looking for was CBS's 'The Taming of a Virus' episode from late 1962. Best I could do is find an NY Times article about it. That video was release a few month prior to the Measles vaccine being deployed in 1963. Bet it has some big lies in it.
