Wired: Teachers using tools to figure out how many of their new students are bots who are just there to submit enough AI-completed assignments that they can claim financial aid in someone else's name.

tl;dr: 25% of students enrolled in California community colleges are reportedly AI bots set up to commit financial aid fraud. Probably this time next year it will be 40-50 percent.
And probably most of the effective ways to mitigate this are going to create barriers for genuine applicants who have access challenges like physical disabilities, transportation issues, etc.
Our government has zero regulation to protect us from these bots. The GOP then uses bots as a weapon in order to stop giving us financial aid, or any nice things.

Le #NYT avait déjà enquêté par le passé sur le rôle secret des #USA, de la #CIA en particulier, en Ukraine, lors de la guerre du #Donbass, c'est-à-dire avant l'invasion russe. J'avais donné ici même un résumé en français de cette enquête. Fin mars, le journal américain a sorti une nouvelle enquête. Elle porte cette fois sur le rôle secret des USA depuis l'invasion russe de 2022 (ou, du moins, une partie de ce rôle secret). J'en donne ci-dessous, à nouveau, une brève synthèse en français.
Peu après l'invasion russe de février 2022, Washington décide de coordonner la guerre en Ukraine depuis ses bases en #Europe, dans le cadre de l' #OTAN. C'est ainsi que des généraux ukrainiens sont conviés à #Wiesbaden, en #Allemagne. C'est le quartier général américain pour les opérations militaires en Europe et en Afrique. Un partenariat est scellé.
Pour coordonner cette alliance : un général ukrainien, #Zabrodskyi (photo de droite), et un général américain, #Donahue (photo de gauche). Sous Donahue s'organise un état-major de l'OTAN, avec un général polonais comme adjoint, un général britannique affecté à la logistique et un général canadien commis à la formation des unités ukrainiennes. When I was looking for more diverse illustrations for npcs in my campaign, I was frustrated to notice that a lot of some archetypes were ai-gen. Fat *human* women*? Black *human* characters in fantasy settings? Fat AND black character? Ugly characters? Without having them sexualised or made monstrous? It is so much harder to find when you remove ai-gen...
I made dozens of npcs (probably more than 50 at this point) so far and decent representations would require tons of commissions... Meanwhile I have to choose what to pick among dozens of white conventionally-attractive men in 15 different variations of roles, clothing styles, vibes, etc.
Imagine if we lived in a country where it would be almost impossible for Trump to find elected officials, lawyers, law enforcement officers, and businesspeople willing to participate in this evil.

Accurate. The only use-case I'm aware of where these things don't suck is consolidating information retrieved from multiple sources, where they don't have to do any 'thinking' or 'creating'.
If you give it a list of items, and ask it to present the information in a different way/ format, an LLM can do that most of the time. (And some of the time it'll go berserk and mess up the information it was given.)
Not necessarily the best use, but even running the thing 5 times to get the right output is faster than searching and consolidating manually.
