they're not BBs or squash balls

they're designed to maim with *reduced* lethality

they will still ruin your life, or potentially even end it, even if it takes you weeks or months to succumb

and they will be deployed indiscriminately, and used for punishment and compliance, when realistically they should not be used in any situation where a real bullet would not be "justified" anyway. you can't (legally) shoot people for standing around (yet). but... that's what's happening.

Der Kapitalismus produziert überschüssige Bevölkerungen und er klassifiziert ganze Gruppen als entbehrlich, minderwertig oder unwürdig. Der Faschismus ist ein bewusstes, gewaltsames Projekt zur Bestätigung und Durchsetzung dieser Strukturen. Man könnte vielleicht sagen, der Kapitalismus ist zwar immer rassistisch, aber es gibt Momente, in denen das Rassistische als affirmatives, politisches Projekt in den Vordergrund tritt. Dort geht es dann nicht mehr nur darum, Hierarchien von Würde, Privilegien und Entbehrlichkeit zu akzeptieren, sondern diese festzuschreiben, herzustellen und ihrer Logik bis zur Auslöschung zu folgen.

Aus Sicht der Union¹ ist Politik das Geschäft von Parteien, aus dem sich alle anderen gefälligst raushalten sollen. Viel mehr gibt es zum Selbstverständnis dieser Partei nicht zu sagen.

Ich zitiere Art 21 (1) Satz 1 GG: „Die Parteien wirken bei der politischen Willensbildung des Volkes mit.“ Sie wirken mit. Eine andere Aufgabe haben sie laut Grundgesetz nicht. Der ganze Zauber oben drauf ist eine Erfindung der Parteien selbst und müßte nicht so sein.

Heute um 18 Uhr in der Scharrerstraße (gegenüber vom Kulturzentrum Luise #Nürnberg):
Gedenken an İsmail Yaşar, der vor 20 Jahre von der rechtsterrorische "nationalsozialistischen Untergrund" (NSU) ermordet wurde.

Der Verfassungsschutz beobachtete die Gruppe mit V-Personen. Dennoch liefen Ermittlungen im Schwerpunkt gegen die Angehörigen, bis sich die #NSU selbst stellte. Daraufhin wurden im Verfassungsschutz massenweise vermeintlich belastenden Akten vernichtet.

Mögt Ihr Bananen? Ich zumindest immer mal wieder. Mittags im Curry, im Kuchen, zum Eis oder im Ostsalat. Eigentlich schade, dass wir sie nicht meh lange haben werden. Dank des wegen der Monokulturen zu kleinen Genpools wird die einzige Sorte, die wir von 2000 in der Wildnis vorhandenen im Laden kaufen können gerade durch einen Pilz vernichtet. Weltweit. Was macht man dagegen? Klar! Den Genpool vergrößert, Verschiedene Sorten anbauen und statt geklonter Pflanzen auf natürliche Vermehrung setzen. Ach nein. Ich vergaß. Wir Menschen können das ja besser, als die Natur. Wir versuchen uns an Medikamenten gegen den Pilz und Gentechnik.

Ich habe so viel gelernt in meinem Leben und doch verstehe ich bis heute nicht, warum wir als Gesellschaft, als Menschengemeinschaft nicht all unsere Energie, all unser Können und all unsere materiellen Güter in die liebevolle und fürsorgliche Begleitung unserer Nachkommen und deren friedvolle Umwelt stecken. Soviel Leiden könnte damit von Anfang an und für die Zukunft verhindert werden. Sind wir einfach nur strunzdumm?

Bir asırdır değişmeden uygulanan düşman hukukunun görülmesi için mutlaka kendilerine mi dokunulması gerekiyordu?
Oysaki hukuk bu.
Dostu, düşmanı, yandaşı, karşıtı için farklı olmaz.
Ve de gün gelir, en çok da keyfi uygulayanlara lazım olur.
Sadece kendilerine dokunulduğunda bağırmanın, çağırmanın karşılığı da olmuyor, anlamı da.
Her zaman hukuktan, adaletten, eşitlikten yana olan zelal yüreklere tek değil, tüm dillerden SELAM OLSUN.

Gaza:

The economy has collapsed almost entirely, with 83% contraction in output by 2024. Most businesses and workplaces have been destroyed. Employment has been reduced to primarily public services, humanitarian aid work, and informal trading.

Occupied West Bank:

While less severely impacted than Gaza, the West Bank experienced significant economic disruption. About 155,000 jobs were lost since October 2023, including approximately 140,000 positions in #Israel and settlements. Unemployment rose from 16.5% to 31.4%.

Illegal Settlement Expansion:

The report documents accelerated settlement activity in 2024, with 60 new outposts established (double the previous year) and plans for nearly 10,000 new housing units in settlements advanced.

Movement Restrictions:

Palestinians face 849 permanent or intermittent obstacles controlling movement, severely hampering access to workplaces and markets.

Proposed Recovery Agenda:

The report concludes with a 10-point agenda for Palestinian economic recovery, emphasizing:

- Employment-intensive reconstruction

- Restoration of agriculture, healthcare, and education

- Private sector support

- Women’s economic empowerment

- Social protection expansion

- Child labor prevention

- Labour governance strengthening

- Facilitation of pension payments

- Reopening Israeli labor market access

New Syrian Group Claims Golan Strike, Vows Resistance to ‘Israel’


A newly emergent faction in Syria, the Islamic Resistance Front, has taken responsibility for launching rockets toward the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, marking a significant turn in the country’s internal and regional dynamics.

The group confirmed its involvement in Tuesday’s attack through a statement issued Wednesday evening by its military spokesperson, Abu al-Qassem.

“The revolution in Syria has deviated from its path and now calls for normalization with Israel,” Abu al-Qassem stated, denouncing what he described as the betrayal of Syria’s original revolutionary goals.

He issued a warning to Tel Aviv, “You are facing Syrian wrath that can only be extinguished by blood.”

The salvo, which reportedly involved two Grad-type rockets, triggered sirens in the southern Golan region and was followed by the sound of explosions, according to local sources.

Meanwhile, Syria’s transitional government offered a cautious response. The Foreign Ministry said it could not verify whether the reported missile fire into Israeli-occupied territory had occurred, asserting that Syria does not and will not pose a threat to any regional party.

Resistance recalibrated


Mahmoud Muwaldi, head of the Islamic Resistance Front’s political bureau, clarified the group’s stance: “We are in opposition to the de facto authority in Damascus,” he said, signaling a clear break from the Syrian regime.

He added that Tuesday’s action was a message to “Israel”, stating, “We are present. We promise to plant fire beneath its feet if it dares to penetrate Syrian territory.”

Muwaldi added that the group does not coordinate with any other armed factions currently operating within Syria, but claimed that several militias have disbanded and joined the Front.

He framed the organization’s mission as dual: confronting foreign occupation while also laying the groundwork for a new Syrian state.

“We speak for the silent majority inside Syria, across all segments of society,” he declared.

ESA project astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski is heading to the International Space Station on his first mission as part of Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4). He is the second ESA project astronaut from a new generation of Europeans to fly on a commercial human spaceflight mission with Axiom Space.

Sponsored by the Polish government and supported by ESA, the Polish Ministry of Economic Development and Technology (MRiT), and the Polish Space Agency (POLSA), the mission—called Ignis—features an ambitious technological and scientific programme. It includes several experiments proposed by the Polish space industry and developed in cooperation with ESA, along with additional ESA-led experiments.

Ha. That's the hype. LLMs are not dudes, though. Like @Will says.

They can be extremely smart, though. There are models now that can be given PhD level math problems and can come up with solutions to a decent percentage of them.

There are a lot of tricks that go into that, not just the predictive "pretraining" (remember the "GPT" in "ChatGPT" stands for "generative pretrained transformer") and reinforcement learning with human feedback (RLHF) that I was describing earlier, but "chain-of-thought" reasoning systems where the model is allowed to talk to itself in an internal monologue (this used to be done with prompting to try to get the model to "think the problem through step by step" but has now been incorporated directly into the models themselves).

These tests are done with problems that are small and self-contained enough to fit the whole thing in the model's context window. There's still no guarantee if it's told to read a link, it'll follow the link and read the contents at the other end, er acknowledge its incapacity to follow the link.
