ESA tracks rare interstellar comet

Astronomers have confirmed the discovery of a rare celestial visitor: a comet from beyond our Solar System.

Officially named 3I/ATLAS, this newly identified interstellar object is only the third of its kind ever observed, following the famous 1I/สปOumuamua in 2017 and 2I/Borisov in 2019.

Don't remember why I don't like Grimerica, so giving that another chance. Also trying the Millennial Media Offensive. And some random podcasts from a libertarian podcast list.

I'm looking for podcasts
- with good sound quality
- that are entertaining
- that leave me feeling smarter at the end.

Point 1 is the real struggle. A lot of podcasts are poorly recorded, and I have no tolerance for that. Also, I usually listen in the car, so there's a lot going on, aurally.

BTW Russia is coming up the Southern Pivot -- I know I say it all the time -- but looks like they finished taking the last town that spans the coastal edge of the next to the last defensive line guarding the major Eastern supply route to the South (1/2). Once they get fire control there then they can collapse the last real defensive line. :shrugz:

Ukraine is still scrambling to send men down to defend, but looks like it's going to be too late to hold off a late Summer sweep. Likely why the US halted arms shipments as they will just be in Russia's hands as much as we have no stock left.

Houseplants are such a barometer of self care, although the flower pictured here is one I made from paper.

I have a weekly alert to water the houseplants, but itโ€™s usually just a backup to remind me if Iโ€™ve been preoccupied. If Iโ€™ve been taking time for myself, Iโ€™ll water when they catch my attention by loosing their alertness, like a drooping ficus leaf or a leaning peace lily spike.
This week both the plants and I have been thirsty, despite the break from the heat. Iโ€™m noticing Iโ€™m drinking more water, even though Iโ€™ve been avoiding going out during the hottest part of the day. Are you staying hydrated?

I very much admire Lara Logan. She is a fine journalist with keen instincts, but I have mixed feelings about the cleavage-revealing wardrobe she favors for her appearances and interviews.

One would dismiss her credentials at their peril if they base their opinion on how she dresses, and maybe that's a strategy on her part.

But I find it curious....

Considering what the BBC has said today about their broadcast of Bob Vylan from Glastonbury, I can only assume that in future if any musical artist makes a political statement the broadcast will immediately be cut.

Several people I respect recently made similar observations to the effect that there is the security community, and then there's the security industry, which are frequently two VERY different things with somewhat misaligned goals and incentives. Seems like there's a lot of truth to explore there.

From my various provocations on LinkedIn the past six months, it's become clear the latter is largely content to sit quietly or even cheer as this administration makes a public mockery of everything their industry claims to stand for. I suspect this may have something to do with tons of security firms suddenly recasting themselves as AI-focused companies.

Am I way off base or too idealistic or simplistic here, or just jaded? I've been trying to identify the real source of my malaise over attending security industry events over the past few months, and I think this dynamic is a big part of it.

I don't know about you (and others), but in my experience nowadays, when someone says they're in Security/in the Security Industry, they really mean they're in Compliance, which...I think explains the state of the industry, in more ways than one.

The guts of infosec and "security" have effectively diverged, I think.

Personally, I lay this at the feet of the "business" parasites who co-opted otherwise honest business ventures and relationships in search of capital.
