Granny did not want anyone getting her cleaned up this morning and scratched a nurse. When I got there the nurse asked me to help with Granny's afternoon ablutions because "she's always a lot nicer when you're around."
So I did. And Granny was an angel. And then I sat down and hot flashed so hard my glasses fogged up. 😂
Granny's not mean, she's frightened. Her hearing is REALLY bad (she worked in a printing department before OSHA and ear protection) and a lot of the nurses have accents, so when they come in and talk to her she generally has a hard time understanding them.
I talk to her loudly and slowly in a Harnett accent so she knows what's going on even if she doesn't know who I am anymore.
My sister is a retired nurse (psych ward, pre-natal, head trauma, to name a few). I have heard her talk about patients and similar to how you approach your situation. She worked as a patient advocate as well at one time. I think you have the heart of a nurse. Effective nursing is understanding the patient on a level they don't necessarily teach in school and staying close to family members for needed insight as well.
@Nead I don't know if I have the heart of a nurse or not but I do know that whatever she needs to get done will get done. If it's easier to have me there when she gets cleaned up, I'll be there.
I just want to make things as easy for her as possible. If I had a million dollars I would spend it all on a fleet of nurses to take care of her in her home and a dog person to bring her a different dog to visit every day

I find it funny how in fiction hubris is a high-brow way of saying “you scienced way too hard and now the universe is going to punish you for Defying The Natural Order™” with the implication that hubris is some kind of character flaw: the character flaw of trying to make things better with science
but in actual Greek myths hubris basically just means “you proved you were better than a god at something and all of the gods are massive raging narcissists so now they’re going to curse you about it”
except where’s the Greek myth about someone committing hubris by inventing agriculture and mortally wounding the god of starvation? or the Greek myth where someone commits hubris by inventing the bifurcated needle and killing the god of smallpox?
it was hubris to invent vaccines. it was hubris to discover how to safely transfuse blood. oral rehydration therapy, germ theory, chlorinated water, synthetic fertilizers. all of these things Go Against The Natural Order and have saved millions to billions of lives, because guess what? the natural order is a fucking atrocity of unimaginable scale. and we are actively stopping it every single day we learn something new about the universe. A difficult but necessary post. The full report of the Dinah Project is out, showing systematic sexual violence by Hamas used on the 7 October massacres (and on hostages afterwards). The many incidents in six different locations suggest this was intentional, not incidental - sexual violence as a weapon.
Clear patterns of sexual violence emerge from the findings, including victims found partially or fully naked with their hands tied, sometimes to trees or poles; evidence of gang rape followed by executions; and severe genital violence. Sexual abuse also continued in captivity — released hostages reported forced nudity, physical and verbal sexual harassment, sexual attacks and threats of forced marriage.
Sadly, this report was necessary. Too many people are denying sexual violence was part of these attacks, people who in other circumstances say #BelieveHer. Perhaps it complicates their simplistic 'good guys and bad guys' view of the world, clashing with the narrative of 7 October as an act of liberation.
Needless to say - except on social media - this doesn't justify the ongoing horrific death and destruction in Gaza. (And if that's what you thought I was getting at, please go away.)
