This is a good post. She makes a lot of good points and clarifies some important things. The part about the actual translation of the term unveiled some details that I wasn't aware of previously.
Some things were off, however. The notion that legal interpretation 'evolves' isn't quite right. It is more the case that it adapts.
Unfortunately, she does make a significant error in stating that the Shari'ah and Islam are not a threat to democracy (Liberal Democracy, Republicanism, etc.). It most assuredly is. So in this, I agree more with Islam's apparent 'detractors' or critics than I do with the presenter here.
Overall, though, she does quite an adroit job of revealing Islamic jurisprudence and its ethical framework to those who are interested in the topic.

Is there a non-gesture based navigation option? I would prefer to play with phosh, but as far as I was able to find, only Plasma Mobile supports button navigation.
You'd need to specify what "button based" navigation is for you. There's a wide range from what e.g. SXMO does to just using additional physical buttons for "back" or "open overview".
That's not full button navigation (as you still need to touch), it's just what Android does. You can map the buttons in a similar way with a little tweaking if the device has the necessary buttons but it's not as consistent as e.g. different toolkits use different key bindings.
Is there any way to have on screen buttons? My devices haven't had a full complement of buttons in years, but I can't get into a completely invisible UI 😞.
I don't think it's worthwhile to transfer the concept of navigation buttons to software only buttons. It's fine for hardware buttons but not that useful for touch screens.
I installed the latest postmarketOS and found it to be missing, which is why I asked in this release announcement.
I'm guessing that there has been no changes in this release to improve this?
I also really disliked not having navigation buttons on screen, so while discoverability may be forced, it seems inferior to having buttons in my experience.
On screen buttons are predictable and accessible - gesture navigation is invisible and hard to understand, given no affordances.
There's a (automatically started) tour explaining the (few) required gestures which has so far been sufficient to have non tech savvy people use the devices but everyone has (obviosly) different requirements.
The tour is a good explainer that IMHO should be shipped in full in every distribution (e.g., IIRC @postmarketOS ship a shorter, customized one). But the accessibility issues for people with sensoric or motoric difficulties remain. IIRC, old Phosh was all taps to get to the launcher/multitasking view (swipe up) or quick actions/notifications (swipe down) and if we attach a pointing device, we still have the close buttons on apps. This old way could be all @yoasif wants. @phosh
@postmarketOS I've seen many people praise the early Phosh interface for everything being an obvious tap away and that there's no need for performing swipes to use it. At the same time lots of people (perhaps more) complained that they couldn't swipe Swipes solve some issues and we're in much better place now than we were without them, but I think it may be worth contemplating on how to bring back the possibility of swipeless operation, even if behind an a11y flag
@postmarketOS I mean, I'm not exactly a social butterfly and we had a pandemic meanwhile, but "ooh it doesn't need swipes, I hate those on my phone" was still something I heard surprising number of times when I showed my phone to people in those early days 😂 I honestly didn't expect these reactions.
That said, I recognize that one can't just bring the old stuff back (and come up with a visual design that makes clear what to tap for what just like that), and that an additional mode also requires extra testing on every change/release etc. Still, it's IMHO really worth considering (accessibility always is!), and it may even get some use by people who don't strictly need it (just like high contrast themes do). I don't want to put stuff on your plate or make demands though! @yoasif @phosh

I had Windows on a 4 Tb hard drive in my old Mac Pro and I could use only 2 Tb — because Apple's early EFI can't boot Windows natively, only with BIOS emulation — so MBR it is. Having half the space wasted is very annoying. And yes, there is GPT with protective MBR, but in practice this configuration is very frail — Windows updates could ruin the partition table, they usually create a recovery partition at the end of the disk so if system in your main partition stops booting you could boot off the recovery one. And software updates update not only the system in the main partition, but the recovery one too and if that partition isn't big enough to accommodate the update… A new bigger one gets created! 🤦 I had to keep the partition table backed up and a few times I had to restore it by hand because the newly created recovery partition wasn't in the backed up GPT table 😩
It's not as bad when it works. I really enjoy being able to just copy the bootloader as EFI binary — as a file, instead of having to write into a specially defined sector, being able to have multiple binaries in one partition, so I can boot several operating systems without having to use a separate bootloader for it — yes, booting particular operating systems requires their own extras, but it can all happily reside in the same small partition.
I was messing with x86 real mode assembly programming in my teens, but I've never went that far. And when it comes to MBR… I once wanted to change the order of partitions in the partition table — most don't care what order they have, so I didn't know where to look, nowadays you can easily export the partition table with gdisk, edit the file and recreate the partition table with different order — again with gdisk. But at the time partitioning software was very limited so I wrote a C program that rearranged them 😅
It's not that it's complex, but why bother? Sure, UEFI has its shortcomings, but having this higher level of abstraction — at least having a concept of partitions at this boot stage, being able to work with files… I think it's good!

I recently received an email that at first glance appeared to be a well-crafted phishing message, warning that my Microsoft Entra ID was going to expire in a month if I didn't make a purchase. The only piece of information in the message was my supposed Entra ID.
After checking with Microsoft it appears this automated message is legitimate, and it is in reference to a Microsoft Teams trial account I created for a day and then abandoned. But apart from the Entra ID, which isn't mentioned in any prior communications from Microsoft, there is zero context for the user.
How hard would it be for Microsoft to include just a tiny bit more information in each message? Like, "Hey, this message is about an account created 5 years ago, for Teams" or something. Otherwise these marketing messages train users to fall for phishing scams.
Microsoft are one of the MVPs for spouting how important it is to be on the lookout for random emails, then sending random emails that look phishy as hell.
I should add that whilst I was waiting for a response from Redmond, I suspected it probably was in relation to that old Teams account, reset the pwd for that account, and then looked at the "entra id" referenced during the login and it was a different number.
the only way this email will be improved is if some product manager comes up with a new SKU you have to rent in perpetuity to get those better email notices.
Perhaps those assholes can also make a "Useful Debugging Output In The Web UI P1" SKU for Intune whilst they're at it.
usually the only way I can identify these sketchy but legit emails is because of my longstanding practice of making up single purpose email addresses. How otherwise would I determine PayPal really wants to give me $5 and not a scammer who scraped/stole my address?

I don't know specifically about Microsoft, but from my experience it could be quite hard indeed. Not technically, but organisationally: marketing teams often use their own systems with very loose coupling with production systems, and any non-trivial export needs a lot of extra legwork. CSV files are involved.
It's a hallmark of #enshittification that "legitimate" emails (i.e. not malicious, but still not kosher either) look more and more like phishing and phishing looks more and more legitimate... take from that what you will. 🤷♂️
Today I've opened by mistake Outlook (or however it's called now) and I saw the same email. It said that I haven't used the account for more than 200 days, so I surely don't know which account they are talking about and I don't plan to do anything about it. I'm not gonna give them money for an account that I don't use. The whole deal with Microsoft accounts, changes, forced logins and registrations is really painful and horrible.

Corporate email and communication etiquette is so brain dead in general I'm surprised anything of value ever gets accomplished.
I've got one basic rule: When I receive a mail that could or could not be phishing, I visit their page, login and check from there. I recently got a message from Dropbox telling me that there are problems with my credit card - and it really looked phishy. Luckily after logging in there I saw the same message.
I really don't understand why companies often don't refer to their pages to validate the mail from there.
Recently received a text from an unrecognized number stating that it was a medical bill and a link to click. Obviously, did not click the link. Friends indicated that it is a legitimate medical bill. Either way, it is a stupid idea. I ignored it and a couple of weeks later a paper bill turned up in the mail.
You can tell it's genuine Microsoft because a real scammer would never be so evil as to require you to make a repeat purchase every 200 days or withhold access to your data.

Now mozilla is coming out with automatic grouping of tabs, based on what criteria, Ai?

Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, has hit out at countries that allowed Israeli PM Netanyahu to fly over their airspace en route to the US, suggesting that they may have flouted their obligations under international law.
Albanese said that the governments of Italy, France and Greece needed to explain why they provided “safe passage” to Netanyahu.

This is a good post. She makes a lot of good points and clarifies some important things. The part about the actual translation of the term unveiled some details that I wasn't aware of previously.
Some things were off, however. The notion that legal interpretation 'evolves' isn't quite right. It is more the case that it adapts.
Unfortunately, she does make a significant error in stating that the Shari'ah and Islam are not a threat to democracy (Liberal Democracy, Republicanism, etc.). It most assuredly is. So in this, I agree more with Islam's apparent 'detractors' or critics than I do with the presenter here.
Overall, though, she does quite an adroit job of revealing Islamic jurisprudence and its ethical framework to those who are interested in the topic.
