In my warmup for #OldComputerChallenge 25, I dusted off ol' pal #RaspberryPi model B and burned #NetBSD 10 on an SD card to set it up.

It all went well (slow, but hey) but one thing that I still can't get around (that I didn't experience so much last time I tried it) is the console. Control chars get printed instead of arrow and home/end keys, no colors, etc. Hate to say it, but all in all, it feels backwards compared to a modern, full-fledged console environment of #FreeBSD or Linux. And it's starting to wear me out.

But I have a feeling that this is somehow my fault for not configuring the console properly or using the right output or something. I never had to deal with this before, so anybody knows how I can configure this so I can have a modern env in NetBSD?

Anyone know if there's any way to turn this off permanently in mastodon options or something?

I don't want a counter for notifications. It bothers me and it's a pain in the arse to get rid of constantly. I can't find a way to get rid of it - it should be on a setting, in my opinion.

I see the Notifications tab on my view all the time, so I can see my notifications I don't need a counter. But number goes up and I have to click a button to reset it 😖

Okay, after much googling (and years of no answers whenever I brought it up to dermatologists) I am diagnosing myself with Solar Urticaria. Unlike the commoner Polymorphous Light Eruption (PLE), SU can be triggered by non-UV wavelengths (including through clothing, like yesterday when I was wearing sun-protective UPF pants, per image) and appears minutes, not hours, after exposure. Also my skin eruptions look just like the pictures.

Apparently management includes my favorite antihistamine for sleeping, good ol' Benadryl! I've been avoiding it due to fear of senility, but one makes trade-offs in life, and since I suffer both sun allergy and chronic insomnia, I'm gonna take it every night for a while. Yay! A little further "research" indicates elevated histamine levels can cause insomnia. Elevated histamine is associated with autoimmune disease, which I have up the wazoo. Benadryl, here I come!!!

do you have any recommendations for where to get a replacement keyboard for a Thinkpad T480? I probably can't afford genuine Lenovo but I'm not sure about these $30 knockoff ones I'm seeing.

also, the trackpad on my T480 occasionally goes wild with ghost inputs and I have to disable it til a reboot, I'm curious if that's a known issue.

My go to place to look is ebay for used OEM parts. Used parts are almost all original OEM parts, while the new ones are frequently lower quality knockoffs.

If you are in the US, I could possibly sell and ship one to you.

For the trackpad, it may be difficult to diagnose if it only happens occasionally. I've seen things like that. Sometimes software. Sometimes a physical capacitive short. Disassembling, cleaning and putting back together could possibly help.

La rĂ©union conjointe a Ă©tĂ© organisĂ©e Ă  la suite d’un rapport d’enquĂȘte publiĂ© le 2 avril par le journaliste d’Israel Hayom, Noam Barkan.

“J’ai dĂ©posĂ© une plainte auprĂšs de la police qui a Ă©tĂ© classĂ©e aprĂšs quelques mois, et je connais d’autres affaires qui ont Ă©tĂ© classĂ©es. S’exprimer aujourd’hui Ă  la Knesset est un moment historique« , a-t-elle dĂ©clarĂ©.

Une autre survivante, Yael Shitrit, a tĂ©moignĂ© « Vous n’avez aucune idĂ©e de ce qu’est l’abus rituel. Le cerveau humain ne peut pas le comprendre. Vous ne pouvez pas imaginer ce que cela signifie de programmer une fillette de trois ans par le viol et le sadisme pour qu’on puisse faire ce qu’on veut d’elle veut sans que personne ne le sache. »

« Ils m’ont trafiquĂ© dans tout le pays. Ils m’ont dĂ©placĂ© de cĂ©rĂ©monie en cĂ©rĂ©monie. Des hommes nus se tenaient en cercle. Mon thĂ©rapeute, son mari et son fils m’ont fait du mal, et il y avait des dizaines d’autres filles et garçons qui m’ont fait du mal. »

« Il y avait des cĂ©rĂ©monies et des rituels destinĂ©s Ă  me faire oublier », a poursuivi Shitrit. « La police est au courant de cela depuis un an, mais elle n’a pas les outils pour y faire face. »

Les personnes qui tomberont sont des personnalitĂ©s trĂšs, trĂšs haut placĂ©es. Ces personnes dirigent des communautĂ©s et des agences gouvernementales. Ils nous menacent. J’ai des enfants que je dois protĂ©ger. Quelque chose doit ĂȘtre mis en place pour y faire face.

« Ils ont essayĂ© de nous faire aimer d’eux – les gens qui nous ont causĂ© une douleur sans fin », a dĂ©clarĂ© Shitrit. « Votre rĂŽle est les arrĂȘter, Ă  Safed, JĂ©rusalem, Jaljulya, ou n’importe oĂč ailleurs”, a-t-elle dĂ©clarĂ©.

Le Dr Naama Goldberg, responsable d’une ONG appelĂ©e Lo Omdot MeNegged (“Ne pas rester les bras croisĂ©s” en hĂ©breu), qui aide les survivants de la prostitution, a expliquĂ© que les histoires sont parfois si horribles qu’elles sont difficiles Ă  croire, mais cette incrĂ©dulitĂ© sert les agresseurs, qui convainquent les victimes de ne pas se plaindre en arguant qu’elles ne seront pas crues.

« Il y a plusieurs annĂ©es, j’ai reçu des descriptions d’abus sadiques sur des enfants », a dĂ©clarĂ© Goldberg. « Les rĂ©cits semblaient absurdes. [Mais] les tĂ©moignages continuaient Ă  arriver et ne cessaient pas. Ils dĂ©crivaient des viols collectifs commis par des hommes, et parfois par des femmes. L’abus a Ă©tĂ© filmĂ© et des drogues ont Ă©tĂ© consommĂ©es. Il y avait des pratiques rituelles et du symbolisme. »

« J’ai prĂ©sentĂ© Ă  la police les tĂ©moignages Ă©crits de cinq femmes. À ce jour, personne ne m’a contactĂ©. Depuis le rapport, d’autres tĂ©moignages ont fait surface », a dĂ©clarĂ© Goldberg.

Un reprĂ©sentant de la police israĂ©lienne, le surintendant Anat Yakir, a dĂ©clarĂ© qu’il y avait une unitĂ© nationale qui examinait tous les cas et que les plaintes Ă©taient « une prioritĂ© absolue au sein de la division du renseignement. »

Les dĂ©putĂ©s qui ont assistĂ© Ă  la rĂ©union ont Ă©tĂ© visiblement secouĂ©s par certains des tĂ©moignages, l’un l’appelant un “moment dĂ©cisif” et un autre qualifiant les rĂ©vĂ©lations de “titanesques”.

Tameno-Shete a dĂ©clarĂ© « La rĂ©alitĂ© nous montre que la police n’est pas capable de traiter les infractions sexuelles. Personne ne veut parler de viols brutaux et d’enfants violĂ©s. Il y a des cas inimaginables de monstruositĂ© ici. »

Lazimi a ajoutĂ© « Je ne pouvais plus respirer quand j’ai entendu parler d’un rĂ©seau d’abus rituels contre les filles et du fait qu’il existe un mĂ©canisme organisĂ© et dangereux et que rien n’est fait pour l’arrĂȘter. Dans cet endroit, nous allons en discuter et essayer de l’exposer pour apporter des changements. »

Deux autres survivants ont parlĂ© lors de la rĂ©union sous couvert d’anonymat.

L’une d’elles a tĂ©moignĂ© qu’un cousin l’avait trafiquĂ©e Ă  partir de l’ñge de 11 ans. « À 14 ans, il m’a emmenĂ© dans des clubs sadiques. J’ai endurĂ© la torture et la famine aux mains d’individus bien connus et Ă©minents. J’ai souffert de maniĂšre infinie ».

« Il y avait des Ă©vĂ©nements publics, et il y avait des cĂ©rĂ©monies internes oĂč j’étais attachĂ© Ă  un grand poteau avec des menottes. Autour de moi, il y avait d’autres victimes menottĂ©es avec des rituels de consommation de sang menstruel et de meurtre de chats et d’autres animaux. Ils m’ont dit que personne ne me croirait si je parlais. »

Elle a poursuivi en expliquant qu’elle avait dĂ©posĂ© une plainte auprĂšs de la police il y a cinq ans. « L’accusation a classĂ© l’affaire faute de preuves, alors j’ai fait appel, et cela a Ă©tĂ© acceptĂ©. Je suis venue tĂ©moigner alors que j’étais alitĂ©e pendant la grossesse, mais l’affaire a de nouveau Ă©tĂ© classĂ©e faute de preuves. »
