Journalist Israel Frey was arrested on charges of incitement and supporting terrorism after posting that “the world is better this morning without five young people who participated in one of the most cruel crimes against humanity” - referring to five IDF soldiers killed in #Gaza.

Writing in #Haaretz, Landsman argues this arrest represents Israel criminalizing dissent itself. She contends Frey wasn’t inciting terrorism but expressing his belief that Israeli soldiers in Gaza are participating in crimes against humanity - a perspective now being placed “outside the law.

The fundamental question being suppressed, according to Landsman: “Is Israel committing a cruel crime against humanity in Gaza?“​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ Landsman warns that such silencing of dissenting voices is common in countries committing such crimes.

“Antisemitism” means criticism of Israel. That’s just what it means now. I've been looking into alternatives to #GoogleDrive, #iCloud and #OneDrive …

Originally, I was going to move everything to OneDrive, but I've possibly had a change of heart.

I've moved everything from GoogleDrive because ... well, Google. And now, in the #UK, it seems that iCloud is no longer going to be safe as Apple will no longer offer advanced protection – thanks government! I currently use iCloud as a mirrored desktop, so it's on my Mac and laptop. I'm happy with the Mac and MacBook, but I'm not happy that iCloud is now going to be 'open’ to the UK government.

Now, I thought I'd move everything to OneDrive – but storing all my stuff on a US server doesn't sit right with me. So I decided to go with #Filen. Am exploring it at the moment, and it looks like I can sync automatically, so any work I’m doing I can save directly to Filen – which is basically what I'm doing with iCloud.

Irishness has taken a revolutionary turn in the cultural landscape. And it’s not just an influx of hot people wearing Claddagh rings and Pellador gansies because Paul Mescal got papped rocking GAA shorts. This new development is rooted in something far deeper than Depop. This is about Kneecap and the return to the party in leftist politics.

Depoliticised and stripped of all radical analysis, Irishness on the world stage became a tale of cups of tea, Tayto and drinking yourself to death on a bar stool. Shamrock-washing the colonial memory, lulling all revolutionary potentials. Still groggy from the socialist dreams of James Connolly, we replaced our dark history of struggle and resistance with heritage sites and Riverdance and a gift shop where you can buy cute little leprechaun stickers.

As victims of a bloody colonial empire that brutalised, raped and pillaged the land, we were told to shake it off and turn our Irishness into a brand deal, into a tax haven for foreign direct investments, to blunt ourselves of the sharp parts, to heal our dark hearts and become the non-offensive butt of a joke that doesn’t upset our slave masters.

So we became storytellers, but only telling stories that were preapproved and didn’t have any enemies. We were told to assimilate, to save face or face humiliation, to lose the culture and keep the costume. Maggie Thatcher is watching you.

Kneecap have put the resistance back into politics, awakening a new energy on the left, one that’s rooted in power rather than victimhood, that doesn’t celebrate victory in defeat or get trapped in a comments section with nowhere to go. Showing solidarity for Palestinian struggle, organising and calling out war-mongerers who want to cancel the Belfast bap, we can glimpse the new horizon on the right side of history, where a future finally feels possible and nationalism isn’t a means of exclusion when you can see yourself in someone else’s eyes.

Kneecap marked a return to subaltern rage and protest, invoking insurgency in young people everywhere. An antidote to the end stage of identity politics. An uprising based on shared struggle rather than what side of the wall you were born on. Of left unity rather than the obsession with being right.

So we use our voice, our language to stand up for our neighbours on the other side of the globe. Because without our words, our silence is complicity and power is unchallenged and genocide is sanctioned and dissent is subdued and our past becomes their present with no lessons or lectures, just bodies.

So this new Irishness is a refusal, a refusal to be the punchline in the Paddy Irishman joke, a postcard in an American’s dream, placated by points and pacified by postcolonial revisionist histories. We were told to smile and say thank you. So we smiled through occupation, through the penal laws and plantations, through famine, through genocide. And now our smile is gone and our teeth are clenched. And we look to Palestine because we know empire when we see it.

And when the elite try to paint your grief as graffiti and your resistance as barbarism, we remember how long Ireland took to dig up its own bodies.

Palestine is a country full of culture and history. Our heritage is combining art, music, food, history, stories of many generations where we stand on our land and still exist despite everything that’s happening which is trying to delete our history, our culture, even our culinary heritage.

So Palestine, it’s not just a country that existed for some years, it’s being going thousands of years and carries a lot of culture and heritage. And I’m so proud to be Palestinian and feel privileged. But also it’s very painful, especially in these days when you see what’s happening as a genocide, and how much they are trying with a worldwide effort to basically delete everything Palestinian. But we are still here.

For President Donald Trump's attention: When the person submitting your name as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize is promoting the construction of a concentration camp - into which the entire population of the Gaza Strip will be herded, with no ability to leave unless people "choose" to emigrate-it's not clear whether he is being a sycophant or sabotaging your candidacy. The support given by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the criminal plan being promoted by Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, involving the construction of a "human-itarian city" on the ruins of Rafah, which would incarcerate all the enclave's residents, is a moral and historic nadir for the State of Israel and the Jewish people. No matter how they try in Israel to wrap this move with laundered epithets, they are talking about a concentration camp.
It appears that in Israel they believe that it's sufficient to attach the label "humanitarian" to convert every act into a legitimate one. Just like the term "the most moral army in the world", which is no longer connected to what IDF soldiers are doing, they're now trying to present a concentration camp to be used for the transfer of population as the most moral one in the world. An Israeli source said Wednesday that "the plan is to move all civilian Gazans southward to a large tent city in Rafah, in which they'll have hospitals and plenty of food." He added: "Just like the prime minister said, as far as I'm con-cerned, they can be given Ben & Jerry's ice cream" (Liza Ro-zovsky, Hebrew Haaretz, July 9). A source of blue-and-white pride: In our concentration camp they have ice cream.
In Israel, you're not allowed to make comparisons, when you do compare to benighted periods, something always
"goes wrong in the translation." As long as the concentration camp isn't a waystation on the way to gas chambers, it's easy to refute the comparison and thereby normalize almost any evil. As long as it's not a Holocaust, everything's okay. Thus the historical comparison, which was meant to be cautionary, becomes a tool for muzzling critics and for normalizing the evil.
But nothing is okay. On Wednesday, 26 people were killed in the Gaza Strip, and at least 80 the day before that. Most of them had been uprooted from their homes, including women and children. The IDF attacked densely crowded areas, including a schoolyard, shelters, tents and an aid distribution center (Jack Khoury, Hebrew Haaretz, July 9). The Red Cross has warned that medical services are about to collapse due to the spike in the number of people hurt at aid distribution locations. Most of the dead were trying to obtain food. Among the wounded are children, youths, mothers and elderly people.
"The extent and frequency of these events are unprecedent-ed," said sources at the Red Cross.
The Gaza war has no military or diplomatic objectives, other than unacceptable ones: a second Nakba and/or a "voluntary" transfer of all Palestinians. This war must be stopped immedi-ately. The hostages must be brought back, and the army must withdraw from the enclave. Control must be transferred to the Palestinian Authority within an Arab-international frame-work, and the rebuilding of the Strip must be allowed to begin.
One cannot lend a hand, whether by assent, silence or indiffer-ence, to a plan over which a black flag is fluttering.

I've heard WAY too many people who simply know better saying things like "well, this is an 'act of god'" about flash flooding.

No. It is not. And we need to fix the law to get rid of that ridiculous ancient construct. There are no "acts of god", according to the law, or there shouldn't be. I have freedom of religion. How do I have that if my insurance company can say "act of god" and I'm not allowed to collect on the insurance? When I acknowledge no such entity?

Flash floods, wildfires, mudslides, polar vortices, all of this. None of it is an "act of god". They're all acts which are the direct consequence of HUMAN BEHAVIOUR.

We have to stop allowing people to say "oh, well, sky daddy did it" and shrugging when it comes to helping people live through climate change.

Time we bloody well grew up.
