France is between a rock and a hard place. The government is begging the IMF for a bailout and there's obviously going to be some kind of austerity conditions - but that will start the leftists rioting and there's a chance they may manage to overthrow the government.
Even if they don't, it's going to make the next election all the more chaotic because it will be roughly "extreme right" vs. "communists" and if the communists win, they will almost certainly bankrupt the government to the point that it cannot pay paychecks. This will almost certainly trigger a coup d'etat and a 2nd Napoleon, which will be welcome relief for most, but the eunuchs will be purged from the court which is what scares them the most.
They could try to bring in some money from the US by sending troops to Ukraine, but this also weakens them at home, leaving them even more vulnerable, both to civil unrest and to a coup. At this point it looks like they're afraid to send troops, but they can make a few bucks providing hospital services to wounded German or Polish troops.
