Last week, members of the EU-funded Libyan ‘coast guard’ shot at a humanitarian search and rescue ship for twenty minutes.

SOS Méditerranée says bullet impacts recorded across the ship show how the so-called Libyan coast guard (scLCG) systematically targeted:
• the crew
• the ship’s control centre
• survivors from a previous rescue
• and critical rescue equipment.

And this was not an isolated incident.

Dear fediverse,

I just had a video call over Signal with @joynewacc from Gaza.

Farah, or Joy, as she prefers to be called, is a 22-year-old Palestinian author and poet studying English Literature at the Islamic University of Gaza, which has been bombed by Israel.

She lives with her mother and four siblings in a shelter, trying to survive the genocide being committed by Israel.

Please help her and her family afford food during the famine that Gaza is experiencing. Please donate if you can and/or share this so that it might reach others who might be able to:

Joy used to have an account on BlueSky but they closed it. Please give her a warm welcome to the fediverse and let her know she is welcome here.

If you’d like to read her writings, you can find them at:

»"This is a definitive statement from experts in the field of genocide studies that what is going on on the ground in Gaza is genocide,"«

»1)These are the worlds top genocide scholars. No one understands what genocide is better than they do.
2)They waited almost 2y to make this announcement. No one can say they jumped the gun or were chomping at the bit to accuse Israel. They clearly took the time to make a considered evaluation.

It’s a genocide.
Deny it - you are complicit. Like a Holocaust denier but worse, since the Holocaust is over & this one is still ongoing & denying it dooms people to death right now.«

What gives the game away is that none of the people who blame Hamas for the civilian suffering give even the slightest sincere indication of lying awake at night crying for the children of Gaza. Even though that combination of sentiments would be perfectly possible in principle.
No, blaming Hamas invariably goes hand in hand with dehumanising Palestinians and ⋅making a point⋅ of not giving a fuck about Gaza's children. You know, the whole "...but we cannot forgive them for forcing us to kill theirs" would be way more convincing if it actually seemed to trouble you.

It should also trouble them to know that Netanyahu helped facilitate the transfer of funds to Hamas. It's not even a secret or rumor, he's said so himself.

If everyone who excused the murder of children because of Hamas was actually consistent about that, Netanyahu would have already been tried and executed a long time ago.

The only conclusion you can draw from that is they think it should be a death sentence to exist in the same city block of anyone who is even suspected of being in Hamas, but it's perfectly okay to help funnel millions and millions of dollars to them.

“Unlike the rationalism of the French Revolution, true liberalism has no quarrel with religion, and I can only deplore the militant and essentially illiberal antireligionism which animated so much of nineteenth-century Continental liberalism. ... What distinguishes the liberal from the conservative here is that, however profound his own spiritual beliefs, he will never regard himself as entitled to impose them on others and that for him the spiritual and the temporal …
