How The European Central Bank Engineered The French Debt-Crisis...
France’s government debt-to-GDP exceeds 114%. However, unfunded committed pension liabilities reach 400% of GDP, according to Eurostat... The five-year credit default risk has risen by 20% in twelve months. The yield on French two-year debt exceeds that of Spain, Italy, and Greece, and its risk premium to Germany has reached 80 basis points—20 above that of Spain.

But unlike Greece, France knows that if the ECB is FORCED to bail it out. If they don't then France will have to impose austerity on its people. They will riot in Paris until the centrist government is ousted, and what comes to replace it will almost certainly leave the EU, causing the collapse of the entire project.
This is diplomacy at it's finest.

So California has 6% of manufacturing jobs
1.2M/19.8M
Ohio has over 12%
688K/5450K
So it would show OH far more of a manufacturing workforce than CA.
A lot different view of the situation than that map.

'... But maybe most importantly, Trump just ripped off the media’s bandaid of pretense that all the CDC hysteria is just about vaccines in general, or firing of directors, or anything else. He just nailed the debate to the church door: it’s about the jabs.
He has, once again, co-opted and occupied the media narrative. Nobody will want to talk about anything else now.

Does anyone know if #GrapheneOS will be implementing this? If not, I guess I'll be switching to GrapheneOS sooner than I thought. If no, well shit. I don't know what I'm going to do. Will probably stick with #Android until this becomes an issue at which point maybe I'll just go back to a #FlipPhone and a #TomTom for the car.

Fresh Gary drop. This will be interesting to watch because he might be able to address some of the debate around taxing wealth, which I will add needs some sophistication in order to deal with the extent of political power, the very richest people and companies have.

Oh absolutely!
A heavy duty cultural shift is what it will take, rejecting the whole concept of this level of wealth and the abusive sociopathy inherent to the system that allows it-- so they get hounded out.
I'm just aghast at the people who keep insisting we simply tax them as if a little legislative adjustment is all it would take to correct the situation.
@violetmadder
Taxation is the start. If we in general understand that it is the first step reasserting our decision-making power and our autonomy and freedom from subjugation of wealth and their corporations.
It’s a matter of survival.
I saw Alice Cooper once in 2006 in an open air setting, one exit away from where I lived in Tucson. Awesome show, with Blue Oyster Cult opening for him. He did Welcome to My Nightmare, my favorite Cooper album, in its entirety, plus a good amount of other songs. Did the whole guillotine bit too.
Saw Judas Priest twice headlining and twice via multi-day festivals between '91 and '18. Great shows, but that was good enough for me.

This guy on the video (I just listened to the whole thing) explained it perfectly. If you're in the U.S., and are a metal fan, you likely already saw both bands over the years. Overseas, this does sell out, because visits are more rare.
By the way, big hair bands (glam rock, poofy looking dudes) and thrash were totally different. Style of music, look (thrashers just wore jeans and a t-shirt) (never did the big hair stuff).
@Lady_PenelopeIt also depends on where you were in the US.
If you didn't have radio access, you thought thrash, Big Hair and Metal and old 60s' were all there was. If you did, or there were good clubs around, you were listening to New Wave, punk and Prince (long before he released Purple Rain).
I switched over almost entirely to New Wave, et al, cuz we had KROQ and the local NPR station, plus the local club scene, but there were some crossovers. Bang Your Head, for ex.
And then, I get on the bus to go visit my mom in another part of metro, and rap was playing on the boom boxes.
Magical times.
@LostInCalifornia @Lady_Penelope
I did tape trading by mail with pen pals because I got some letters printed in some metal magazines. That was a lot of fun. Plus the college radio stations played some good, new, interesting stuff. I'm sure they might still be doing that.
@Lady_PenelopeWe only had 2 college radio stations. One from a major uni only broadcast for one mile. The other from a community college was run by NPR (and now it's just NPR).
OTOH, we did have a station down in Mexico / San Diego that gave KROQ some competition, and most days we could hear it.
I grew up in a small town with one pop 10 radio station. We'd drive out past the mountains so we could hear the one LA station we could hear.
I tell people it was magic because it was.
@LostInCalifornia @Lady_Penelope
Yup, same thing... we also only had the two college radio stations. I deejayed at the one during my freshman year, before I transferred to university in Philly.
@SiRrogueKnightUK was a wee bit more of a mix up, Metal here was/is a very broad church, but the hair bands didn't really take off in the same way as the US and many were dirided by the metal faithful. But they did bring the girls to the dance floors which kept the scene fresh and you'll still hear them at a metal disco.
My sister's a huge Maiden fan, I've been to see them with her. Their audience always looks perpetually middle aged so maybe that's why I expect the core base to be pensioners.
@Lady_Penelope @LostInCalifornia
Funny, Iron Maiden was definitely a favorite with me and friends early on, which got us into thrash. In middle school, I had a classmate. She was in love with Joe of Def Leppard. If I got a rock mag with Def Leppard article, she'd trade me for an Iron Maiden article.
@Lady_Penelope @LostInCalifornia
🤣 ... def initly not PC correct...
They crack me up. I first heard them when my ex and I did a backpacking style Eastern Europe trip. They were playing "Bad Touch" everywhere over in Eastern Europe... I thought they were some European band. Nope... Pennsylvania.

Watching this expert interview: Psychological barriers to taking action on COVID
"... the precautionary principle, which people in the medical world understand very well ..."
heh, citation required. I used to think that too but surely now the evidence is overwhelming that they don't??
They're talking about data on the groups who still take covid seriously - they were expecting it to be mostly scientific (professionally, I think he means) types of people, and it turned out to be 3 groups:
- science nerds
- seriously and/or chronically ill folk
- family members of seriously and chronically ill folk
And yep that's 100% my experience. Strong overlap with neurodivergent folk but I suspect that's because of the higher rates of chronic illness for neurodivergent folk, personally.
There was a significant amount of masking at the fountain pen convention I just attended.
But the highest amount of masking I've seen, by far, is at the anarchist book fairs!
@violetmadder my first two thoughts upon reading this:
"A fountain pen convention? Who'd go to that thing?"
"…I kinda wanna go to a fountain pen convention."
Alles, was wir seit ca. 1995 erleben, ist eine Art Rachefeldzug der organisierten politischen Linken gegen die friedliche Revolution von 1989 und die Wiedervereinigung Deutschlands.
