Today is the Wednesday of Mid-Pentecost, marking the midpoint between Easter and Pentecost.

Today's gospel reading is John 7:14–30, in which Jesus goes into the temple and teaches “in the middle of the feast.” In his teaching, Jesus reaffirms his unity with the Father.

The middle of the days has come,
beginning with the Savior’s Resurrection,
and sealed by the holy Pentecost.
The first and the last shine with splendor.
We rejoice in the union of both feasts,
as we draw near to the Lord’s Ascension:
the sign of our coming glorification.

Koishi Day (5/14)
The cute younger sister's day is finally here! Rejoice and celebrate by spending the day not thinking!
For a bit of a different tone, I actually want to use this day as an excuse to discuss Koishi as a character. I feel like there's far too many misconceptions when it comes to her. Lots view her as this impulsive emotionless serial killer who only performs cruel acts but that's not even close to who she is.
Yes, she did seal her ability and with it a small part of her mind. The reality is though, this didn't drive her insane. She's still rational and has restraint. Anything she normally wouldn't have done she still wont do. She doesn't experience things quite the same as she did before but she still has emotions to some degree. She's an impressively unique character that's hard to really grasp. Labeling her as violent psychopath because of her unique traits though is a complete mistake.

**The Environmental Destruction Caused by Lithium Batteries, Windmills, and Solar Panels: A Case for Wood as a Sustainable Alternative**

In the race to adopt sustainable energy solutions, the world has turned to technologies such as lithium batteries, wind turbines, and solar panels. These innovations are hailed for their potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on fossil fuels. However, the environmental cost of these technologies is often overlooked. Lithium batteries, windmills, and solar panels, while beneficial in many respects, bring their own set of destructive environmental impacts. In contrast, wood, an ancient and often underappreciated resource, presents a more sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative.

### The Environmental Impact of Lithium Batteries

Lithium-ion batteries have become ubiquitous in modern life, powering everything from electric vehicles to smartphones. However, their production and disposal carry significant environmental drawbacks. The extraction of lithium, primarily through mining, is a resource-intensive process that leads to soil degradation, water shortages, and loss of biodiversity. Major lithium mining operations, such as those in Chile's Atacama Desert, have drained local water supplies, threatening the livelihoods of indigenous communities and local ecosystems.

Additionally, the disposal of lithium batteries poses a substantial environmental hazard. These batteries contain hazardous materials, including cobalt, nickel, and other toxic elements, which can leach into the soil and groundwater if not properly managed. Recycling lithium batteries is complex and costly, leading to low recycling rates and increasing the risk of environmental contamination.

### The Destructive Nature of Windmills

Wind energy, while a cleaner alternative to fossil fuels, also has its ecological costs. Wind turbines are known to cause significant harm to wildlife, particularly birds and bats. The placement of wind farms often intersects with migration paths and habitats, leading to high mortality rates for these animals. A study by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service estimated that wind turbines kill hundreds of thousands of birds annually in the United States alone. Bats, crucial for pest control and pollination, also suffer from collisions and barotrauma caused by the pressure changes near the turbine blades.

Moreover, the construction and maintenance of wind turbines require substantial land use, which can disrupt local ecosystems. The materials used in turbines, such as rare earth metals, steel, and concrete, also contribute to environmental degradation during their extraction and production processes.

### The Issue with Solar Panels

Solar power is often touted as a cornerstone of a renewable energy future. However, the environmental footprint of solar panels is significant. The manufacturing of solar panels involves hazardous chemicals, including cadmium, lead, and silicon tetrachloride, which can be harmful if released into the environment. The energy-intensive production process also generates substantial carbon emissions.

Furthermore, the disposal of solar panels presents a growing challenge. Solar panels have a finite lifespan, typically around 25-30 years, after which they become e-waste. Currently, there are limited recycling options for solar panels, leading to concerns about the accumulation of toxic waste in landfills.

### Wood: A Renewable and Sustainable Alternative

Amidst the search for sustainable energy solutions, wood stands out as a renewable, recyclable, and reusable resource. Unlike the finite and environmentally damaging extraction processes for lithium, rare earth metals, and other materials used in modern green technologies, wood can be sustainably harvested and managed. Forests can be regrown, and wood products can be reused and recycled, reducing waste and conserving resources.

Wood also offers carbon sequestration benefits. Growing trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, storing it in their biomass. When managed sustainably, forests can act as a carbon sink, mitigating climate change. Additionally, wood products continue to store carbon throughout their useful life, making them an effective tool in the fight against global warming.

Furthermore, advances in bioenergy technology have made it possible to use wood and other biomass as a clean energy source. Modern wood-burning stoves and boilers, as well as biomass power plants, can convert wood into heat and electricity with high efficiency and low emissions. This makes wood a viable alternative for reducing reliance on fossil fuels and other environmentally harmful energy sources.

### Conclusion

While lithium batteries, wind turbines, and solar panels are crucial components of the transition to a greener future, their environmental costs cannot be ignored. The extraction, production, and disposal processes associated with these technologies pose significant threats to ecosystems and biodiversity. In contrast, wood, with its renewable and recyclable nature, presents a compelling alternative. By investing in sustainable forestry practices and bioenergy technologies, we can harness the power of wood to create a more balanced and truly sustainable energy landscape. Recognizing and mitigating the environmental impacts of current green technologies is essential as we strive towards a future that is not only low-carbon but also environmentally harmonious.
