@nivea They are building on Mobian - which at least sounds like less of a workload than what @purism are doing with PureOS. That said, if I made a 'LINMOBphone' it would, no matter the distro, also have some software branding + additional (meta-) packages to customize the experience and to not have to argue with distro people that Gapless is IMHO better than Lollypop.

I totally understand that if you put all the work into making hardware, you just want some influence on what's running on it.

@purism you are right in a way. and i am happy if they are proud on the accomplishment of developing this kind of hw. but, my observation is that making such hardware, and making it well, is challenge enough. and the software side will benefit so much from the effectiveness and efficiency of joined forces. it all doesn't hurt anyone, but still hurts is that its a waste of already limited capacities within this little niche

Since this apparently needs to be said: if a show is no longer running nor being officially distributed, no money is going to the original production team anyways.

Unlike watching a currently licensed or ongoing show (which could impact its prospects), watching a recording of a defunct production doesn’t take money out of anyone’s pocket. This is especially true for shows that struggled to find an audience and closed early.

some estimates are that it will cost Finland $100 billion to complete the transformation - and we all know what happens to government cost estimates.

But Finland will have all brand new train tracks and equipment. All made up to modern standards (which are engineered to last 7-8 years). They plan on starting in the North - which oddly makes sense... but you can bet that by the time they get to the south, the northern tracks and equipment will need expensive maintenance.

More importantly... imagine the nightmare of building out a new system while trying to keep the old system operating. Fun times for commuters when this starts.

The total length of railroad tracks in Finland, including sidings, is 9,216 kilometers (5,727 miles). This includes 7,225 kilometers (4,489 miles) of passenger railway routes and 3,249 kilometers (2,019 miles) of electrified routes.

A 1954 memo to CIA Director Allen Dulles showed the CIA’s TSS requesting authorization for a project at Georgetown University Hospital that would provide cover for research under the Agency’s “biological and chemical warfare program.”

Using a philanthropic organization as a “cut-out,” the CIA would partially fund “a new research wing” of the hospital (the Gorman Annex) and would use one-sixth of the new annex to conduct “Agency-sponsored research in these sensitive fields.”

According to UC Berkeley Professor Richard Ofshe, after the formal termination of the CIA’s Operation MK-ULTRA in 1973, the operation continued to be carried out secretly through religious cults.

One of these cults was the People’s Temple in San Francisco, which recruited members of the Bay Area left by promoting a message of racial integration and social justice.

The head of that cult, Reverend Jim Jones, may have worked as an FBI informant in the 1950s and played a role in at least three CIA projects in the 1960s—in Cuba, Brazil and Guyana, where he established an agricultural commune [Jonestown] that looks to have provided a front for MK-ULTRA-type experiments.
