I have copied a DVD of an old family video to my computer but am having trouble playing or converting all of the video content.
If I open the DVD directory in VLC or MPV to play it I can see that the video is 1h46m but it will only play the first 14m53s, which seems to correspond with a 'chapter'. If I open the directory in Handbrake it will detect the full video length of 1h46m and a total of 8 chapters but will only convert the first chapter. Ffmpeg will convert the three main .VOB files to .mkv but the output files only add up to 30m or so of video, which is an improvement over opening the DVD directory in a media player or converting it using Handbrake but still doesn't pick up the full video length.
You need software (like MakeMKV) to read the metadata from the DVD and properly chop up or combine the video files. It should be able to export without any re-encoding.
On a separate note, if you want to shrink the files, I’d recommend av1an if you are comfortable with a little CLI and want the best possible encoding efficiency. In a nutshell it chunks videos and encodes them in parallel, hence its great for really long files like movies/TV on DVDs.

Ein Argument, das ich zum #Gaza-Krieg oft sehe: "Der Krieg wäre sofort vorbei, wenn die Hamas sich ergibt". Ich wünschte, ich könnte diese Überzeugung teilen, aber ich glaube, der darunterliegende Konflikt um Ressourcen (insbesondere Territorium) würde auch ohne die Hamas weiter gehen. Leider gibt es viel Hass auf beiden Seiten. Selbst wenn die Hamas sich in Luft auflösen würde, bliebe der bestehen. Ich vermute deshalb, es würde recht schnell eine neue/andere Organisation an ihre Stelle treten.
Denn eine Organisation lässt sich vielleicht mit Gewalt und Waffen in die Knie zwingen, aber eine brutale Kriegsführung, die das Leid der Zivilbevölkerung in Kauf nimmt, verursacht bei den Betroffenen viel Schmerz und schürt wahrscheinlich den Hass weiter. Und wo Hass sprießt, wird auch Gewalt blühen. Natürlich kann ich mich da täuschen, aber das ist meine Befürchtung.

Simultaneously, cuts to US government science funding create what Israeli sources call a "double-sided attack" on their research capabilities.
Concerns raised in the Q&A:

IMHO Suspending Horizon Europe participation wouldn't just be about current Israeli actions - it would force Europe to confront how its historical and ongoing support has made those actions possible. The current framing avoids this uncomfortable truth about European complicity.

Maybe the solution is to encourage brain drain. Support Israeli scientists who will come and work in Europe, make them sign a cooling-off period preventing them from working with any industry complicit, supporting or enabling the occupation in any way. The world will benefit from continued investment in research, and #Israel will be left to deal with the consequences of adopting messianic #Zionism.
Regardless, polling shows that most Israelis support the continued occupation, and now more than ever, they also support population transfer - I believe the figure is around 86% of the Jewish population. There's little reason to assume that scientists and academics are somehow exempt from these broader societal attitudes.

Quds News Network rapporte qu'Abu Shabab a « établi une base fortifiée dans une zone contrôlée par Israël à Rafah », désormais une zone de destruction. Ces groupes opèrent sous la protection militaire israélienne et pillent régulièrement les convois d’aide, notamment dans des zones comme l’est de Rafah et Karem Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom). Abou Shabab est un chef connu de gangs armés liés à Daech et impliqué dans le pillage de l'aide humanitaire sous protection israélienne. L'année dernière, The New Arab rapportait qu'Abou Shabab, entre autres, collaborait avec des centaines de voleurs sous la protection des forces d'occupation israéliennes près du point de passage de Kerem Shalom, principal point d'entrée des convois d'aide humanitaire. Issu de la tribu bédouine Tarabin, présente du Sinaï au sud de Gaza et au désert du Néguev, il a été identifié dans une note de l'ONU comme « la principale figure influente derrière le pillage généralisé et organisé » des convois d'aide humanitaire à destination de Gaza. Opérant depuis l'est de Rafah, Abou Shabab dirige un groupe de voyous armés qui attaquent les camions transportant de la nourriture et d'autres fournitures essentielles à Gaza. Plusieurs rapports, notamment ceux de Haaretz et du Washington Post, confirment que ces gangs ont été vus en train de piller à la vue des forces israéliennes, qui n’interviennent pas et n’empêchent pas le vol. Abu Shabab, récemment à nouveau actif sur les réseaux sociaux, se vante de la coordination de son gang, tandis que ses hommes armés frappent les chauffeurs d'aide humanitaire et exigent de l'argent pour leur protection, aggravant ainsi les conditions de vie d'une population affamée. Pendant ce temps, Israël a systématiquement pris pour cible la police et les agents de sécurité palestiniens chargés de surveiller les livraisons d'aide. Malgré la pression internationale, seule une quantité infime d'aide a été autorisée à entrer, Israël frappant ceux qui tentaient de la protéger. Si Israël permet et facilite les pillages, sa propagande accuse le Hamas de voler l'aide, rejetant ainsi toute responsabilité et masquant son propre rôle dans l'orchestration du chaos et de la famine à Gaza.

On a separate note, if you want to shrink the files, I’d recommend av1an if you are comfortable with a little CLI and want the best possible encoding efficiency. In a nutshell it chunks videos and encodes them in parallel, hence its great for really long files like movies/TV on DVDs.
