America’s military humliation - UnHerd

#geopolitics #imperialism #war

It is very commonplace to blame reversals and even defeats in America’s various wars of choice as merely a matter of lack of will. If America really wanted to win, it would win, the story goes; the failure of the US is just one where it never commits the force necessary to finish the fight. But today, that excuse rings hollow. Trump’s Operation Rough Rider, unlike Biden’s operations, utilised many of America’s most limited, expensive, and advanced weapons to try to bring the Houthis to heel. And still it surrendered. The lessons here are thus quite bleak. America’s preferred and increasingly only viable method of warfare — aerial warfare — is no longer cost-effective nor practical. But the US has no alternative modes of warfare to fall back on, which means that its days as a military hegemon are probably coming to a close.

"Israeli troops have opened fire near thousands of hungry Palestinians as a logistics group chosen by Israel to ship food into Gaza lost control of its distribution centre on its second day of operations"
theguardian.com/world/2025/may…
This is pretty much exactly what actual humanitarian aid workers and organizations said would happen when the bogus "Gaza Humanitarian Foundation" was created to further weaponize the starvation Netanyahu and gang have explicitly intentionally created for the civilian population as a method of warfare.
That was why the UN and all serious aid organizations denounced it and refused having anything to do with this quite obvious intentional disaster-amplifying "humanitarian aid".
in reply to b9AcE

The latest from Doctors without Borders (MSF) is a "statement from Christopher Lockyear, MSF Secretary General, outlines why the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation's approach to distributing aid in Gaza, Palestine, is dangerous and reckless" that it "confirmed that the US-Israel plan to instrumentalise aid is ineffective":

"Israel warns Palestinians against travel on roads to Gaza aid hubs, labelling them ‘combat zones’ [...] ‘prohibited’ for Palestinians"
theguardian.com/world/2025/jun…
Yeah, of course the Palestinians should just teleport like everyone else to get to the sham, weaponized, "humanitarian aid" war crime targeting areas.
in reply to b9AcE

This is wrong. The starvation of Palestinians in Gaza is a Hamas strategy, not an Israeli strategy.

Israel has had, for decades, the choice of supporting people who support terrorists, or not. They supported them.

Hamas went from being terrorists to being an enemy at war. Supporting the Palestinians wasn't working, so Israel stopped. The responsibility lies with Hamas and the Palestinians.

Madonna - Hung Up (Official Video) [HD]

You’re watching the HD Remastered music video for Madonna’s "Hung Up". Original song taken from Madonna's 'Confessions On A Dance Floor' album released on Warner Bros. in 2005.

Lyrics:
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly

Every little thing that you say or do
I'm hung up, I'm hung up on you
Waiting for your call, baby, night and day
I'm fed up, I'm tired of waiting on you

Time goes by so slowly for those who wait
No time to hesitate
Those who run seem to have all the fun
I'm caught up, I don't know what to do

Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
I don't know what to do

Every little thing that you say or do
I'm hung up, I'm hung up on you
Waiting for your call, baby, night and day
I'm fed up, I'm tired of waiting on you
Every little thing that you say or do
I'm hung up, I'm hung up on you
Waiting for your call, baby, night and day
I'm fed up, I'm tired of waiting on you

Ring, ring, ring goes the telephone
The lights are on, but there's no one home
Tick tick tock, it's a quarter to two
And I'm done, I'm hanging up on you

I can't keep on waiting for you
I know that you're still hesitating
Don't cry for me, 'cause I'll find my way
You'll wake up one day, but it'll be too late

Every little thing that you say or do
I'm hung up, I'm hung up on you
Waiting for your call, baby, night and day
I'm fed up, I'm tired of waiting on you
Every little thing that you say or do
I'm hung up, I'm hung up on you
Waiting for your call, baby, night and day
I'm fed up, I'm tired of waiting on you

Every little thing, every little thing
I'm hung up, I'm hung up on you
Waiting for your call, waiting for your call
I'm fed up, I'm tired of waiting on you

Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly
Time goes by so slowly, so slowly
So slowly, so slowly, so slowly
So slowly, so slowly, so slowly
So slowly, so slowly, so slowly
So slowly, so slowly, so slowly, so...

Every little thing, every little thing
I'm hung up, I'm hung up on you
Waiting for your call, waiting for your call

Not to get into politics but the whole point of Linux is about being open and used by anyone from anywhere. I wouldn’t be surprised to see various parts of the Linux kernel, drivers, etc developed/funded by people from Israel, Russia, and many many other countries.

Edit: the point of this message, this type of approach to your OS choice will ultimately result in throwing your PC in the trash if you dig deep enough.

There is a vast difference between a community driven project like Debian taking small contributions from people who happen to be in Israel/incorporating some things from RedHat after lots of vetting and diluting and Fedora being a direct upstream testing ground for RedHat who are the primary contributors and maintainers.

No, this type of approach will not lead to you throwing your PC in the trash, it will simply lead to you being more aware of your software and how it functions, what it contributes to, and what contributes to it. Which is a good thing imo.

For example, I use LMDE. Yes, there are most definitely contributions from redhat in my machine. the difference is between

RedHat engineers -> Fedora.
And
RedHat engineers -> Fedora -> Upstream Project acceptance-> Debian -> LMDE.

I'm not saying you need to stop using Fedora. But everyone draws a line somewhere and I'm simply making my knowledge on this known for people who's line may be in a similar place to mine.

I don't know exactly why writing from the 1700s and 1800s was markedly superior in quality than that of modern books. But I think this might be a clue. (Below: Pictures of my three volume 1796 copy of, "History of the Reign of Emperor Charles the Fifth - With a View of the Progress of Society in Europe from the Subversion of the Roman Empire, to the Beginning of the 16th Century" by William Robertson).

The enlightenment thinkers in the Universities would start their books by addressing an audience to the King, who would be the patron of the arts and sciences in the various principalities of Europe. This sets the tone for the work in terms of quality and gravity, and gives the author an incentive to be forthcoming and concise with the fruits of their labors.

The monarchs would actually read these books and would bestow honors upon the most worthy performances. There was no time for bullshit, or trying to dazzle other intellectuals with fruitless abstraction. Your audience was the king!

There has been remarkably little resistance from the American establishment since the start of the Trump presidency. Congress has remained exceptionally inactive and quiet, while Trump governs mostly through executive order. It almost seems as though the American establishment recognizes the fact that this country cannot move any further forward, at this juncture, without conceding the rise of a powerful executive to bring a degree of coherence and order to the nation.

Insofar as universities are concerned, Trump is striking the very highest collegiate institutions of the nation. Once the Ivy Leagues have been brought to heel, the rest will follow. So far 2.2 billion in endowments are frozen at Harvard, no international students are permitted to enter or return, and now the remaining $450 million in grants are being cancelled.

How is President Trump doing this? A power argument from the Federalist Society claims that the Constitution gave exclusive power to the congress to pass bills authorizing the raising of taxes and the expenditure of treasure, however, it is the discretion, prerogative and privilege of the executive branch, to choose whether and where the funds are actually disbursed. The Trump Administration is using this constitution prerogative to govern in a much more arbitrary and lively fashion than has been the custom of previous presidents.

This will be an unstoppable precedent, and a salutary transition away from unchecked oligarchy, and towards the normalization of a strong and independent executive power structure. A feat which many did not think possible within the constraints of the current constitution. Once the executive has gathered sufficient power, the Oligarchy will not be able to turn things back around.

Excerpt from the Article:

" 'Going forward, we also encourage your agency to seek alternative vendors for future services where you had previously considered Harvard,' reads the letter, signed by Josh Gruenbaum, the commissioner of the GSA's Federal Acquisition Service. "

*Trump administration moves to cancel remaining federal funds to Harvard*

in reply to MarketGarden

The other obvious reason that congress has not been vigorously attacking Trump is that the state of Israel is facing an existential crisis. It seems as though Trump has made a "deal with the devil" so to speak, essentially telling Israel, if you let me have my way with things, I won't pull the plug on Israel. Hence the full might of the Israel Lobby is being used to restrain congress from attacking Trump, and any democrats who do step out of line and attempt to impeach him are quickly brought to heel.

npr.org/2025/05/27/nx-s1-54131…

Nowadays, a suit and tie is almost universally, unconsciously recognized as the uniform of someone who deceives and manipulates for a living. With some exceptions, the wearing of a suit is actually harmful to a person's reputation, hence they have gone out of fashion in wider society.

Some of the exceptions for a positive image associated with a suit would be the Russian KGB or the American Secret Service, where calculated manners and tactics are generally socially acceptable to the public at large.

From the gilded era, all the way up to FDR's new deal in 1933, western populations tried to emulate the elites by wearing suits in their day to day lives, at least when going to town. The respect for wealth and capital has decreased since then, to such an extent, that one is laughed at for wearing formal clothing, even while rich.

Formal wear is supposed to express a few different things, and can express some things more than another, depending on it's features. On the one hand there is the expression of personal sophistication and wealth, and yet on the other hand formal wear may express a sense of civic duty, respect paid, or a formal role a person carries in a society.

Even as personal ostentation has gone out of fashion, a person taking their duties seriously has not. Hence, formal wear, moving forward should strive to emphasize a person's role in a society rather than their personal qualities.

This begs the question, if a person wishes to leave the house in something more presentable than jeans and a t-shirt, which is the most common thing to wear in America, what sort of wardrobe is befitting? What kind of formal wear expresses the conscientious citizen and/or warrior of the republic rather than ostentatious wealth and/or sophistication?
