Terrorism according to Israeli media, #Ynet.

When not busy scavenging stories from social media about #antisemitism for their rolling coverage titled "wave of antisemitism" (mostly ultra-orthodox Jews complaining about not getting something they felt entitled to), Ynet is "reporting" (IDF briefings) about terrorist activities, including children and women throwing stones at unsuspecting, fragile soldiers who are left with no choice other than to “neutralize” them.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

The text in Hebrew says:

Fighters neutralized a female terrorist who was throwing stones in the Shomron, a knife was found in her possession.

IDF forces neutralized a female terrorist who was throwing stones at the Giti Avishar junction in Shomron. During the search, a knife was found in her possession.

This is not the definition of terrorist or terrorism. Yet Ynet is regularly choosing to use the term “מחבל" (terrorist) to describe Palestinians. The labeling of stone-throwing as terrorism and the individual as a terrorist represents a particular narrative about resistance activities in the occupied territories.​​​​​​​​​​​ The report also emphasizes that a knife was found in her possession after the fact, which serves to further justify the characterization and response.

This is the chronology established (matching earlier reports based on social media posts):

- On the evening before the Europa League match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv, #Maccabi (Israeli) fans were reported to have torn down and burned a Palestinian flag, shouted anti-Palestinian slogans, and vandalized a taxi.

- The following day, there were clashes between pro-Palestine protesters and Maccabi fans on Dam Square in Amsterdam.

- During and after the match, there were numerous attacks on Maccabi supporters across the city center. Footage showed masked youths targeting fans, with some allegedly asked if they were Jewish

- Five Maccabi fans were hospitalized and 20-30 others were slightly injured in the attacks.

[…] Verified social media videos show Maccabi fans setting off flares and fireworks, chanting in Hebrew “olé, olé, let the IDF win, we will fuck the Arabs”, and declaring that there were “no children” left in Gaza.

[…] Footage has also emerged of Maccabi supporters close to Amsterdam central railway station setting off fireworks, chanting anti-Palestine slogans and taking iron scaffolding tubes and wooden planks from a building site to use as weapons. Other footage shows Maccabi fans running through the streets swinging belts.

While the Dutch authorities quickly condemned the violence as an "outburst of antisemitism," the evidence suggests the attacks were more directly targeted at the Israeli fans for their own provocative behaviors, rather than being motivated by broader #antisemitism against Amsterdam's Jewish community.

The initial incidents triggered by the #Maccabi fans, such as burning the Palestinian flag and chanting anti-Arab slogans, appear to have been the catalysts for the later attacks against them.

In this context, the violence, while unacceptable, may have been a reaction to the prior actions of the Maccabi supporters rather than reflecting prejudice against Jews in general.

Analysis by Sikui-Ofuk and The Seventh Eye revealed that while the media described the amendment as a "correction/expansion of grounds for disqualification," it was referred to as a "law for disqualifying/removing supporters of terror" in discussions and interviews, ignoring the severe impact on a fifth of the country's citizens and the undermining of democracy.

Other laws aim to expel students and lecturers deemed "supporters of terror" from academic institutions, violating freedom of speech. A further proposal allows arrests for "incitement to terror" without prosecutorial approval, further enabling political persecution. Arab representation in Hebrew media is at a record low of 1.3% in 2023, reflecting the existing Jewish supremacy. The media must actively challenge this narrative and defend the Arab community, protecting democracy for all.

Who could have guessed? WAPO's "investigation" is somewhat superfluous; citizen journalists already showed Israeli soccer fans initiating the violence. There was no program and the violence was most certainly not planned.

Initial confrontations involved aggressive actions by some Maccabi Tel Aviv fans, such as damaging a taxi and tearing down a Palestinian flag. These actions, along with online messaging containing threats against Israeli fans, fueled retaliatory actions by some local residents. The inadequate police response in the city center also contributed significantly to the escalation of violence.

Eli Barak, a senior editor at Israel Hayom (owned by Miriam Adelson) newspaper, responded “Thank you for the good news” to a #Haaretz report estimating 100,000 deaths in #Gaza. When questioned, Barak compared Palestinians in Gaza to Germans in WWII, saying he would have been happy about high mortality in German cities in 1943. The journalist describes himself as head of the news desk at Israel Hayom and deputy editor of Israel Hashavua supplement. Abstract

High-quality war mortality estimates, such as those that were produced for Kosovo, Iraq, and Darfur play a critical role in illuminating the human cost of war. During the tumult of war they are, however, challenging to obtain due to the conflicts themselves. The Gaza Ministry of Health (GMoH) has provided regular updates to their post-October-7 violent death tally for the Gaza Strip. However, GMoH reports have attracted both criticism and support. Here, we present results from a large-scale household survey, the Gaza Mortality Survey (GMS), which provides independent estimates of war-related deaths between October 7, 2023 and January 5, 2025. Our findings suggest that violent mortality has significantly exceeded official figures. Our central estimate for the extent of GMoH undercount closely matches a separate estimate made using capture-recapture methods. We also find that nonviolent excess deaths, often overlooked in conflict assessments, also represent a substantial burden. These results underscore the feasibility of mortality surveillance methodologies in some highly challenging war-affected settings and provide a crucial empirical foundation for assessing the true human cost of the war.

#Ynet's coverage of the settler's funeral deliberately excluded all sections of the eulogy that referenced Ben-Nathan's role in war crimes and his murder of Bilal Salah. By selectively editing out these admissions, Ynet presented an incomplete and sanitized version of events, continuing a pattern of mainstream Israeli media concealing evidence of violence against Palestinians.

What they did quote from the brothers' eulogies are these pastoral scenes:

#Ynet's daily inflammatory discourse when reporting on Palestinians involved in... well, anything.

In this article, Ynet's editors chose to use the term "terrorism" in the headline (in quotes, supposedly quoting a grieving family member), in a report which describes the vandalism of military graves by two East Jerusalem teenagers (13). But the facts presented do not support the terrorism label at all. While authorities arrested the suspects, they were later released to house arrest, with some police sources indicating the incident was treated as juvenile misconduct rather than terrorism.

Why let such an easy clickbait go to waste?
