When not busy scavenging stories from social media about #antisemitism for their rolling coverage titled "wave of antisemitism" (mostly ultra-orthodox Jews complaining about not getting something they felt entitled to), Ynet is "reporting" (IDF briefings) about terrorist activities, including children and women throwing stones at unsuspecting, fragile soldiers who are left with no choice other than to “neutralize” them.

This is not the definition of terrorist or terrorism. Yet Ynet is regularly choosing to use the term “מחבל" (terrorist) to describe Palestinians. The labeling of stone-throwing as terrorism and the individual as a terrorist represents a particular narrative about resistance activities in the occupied territories. The report also emphasizes that a knife was found in her possession after the fact, which serves to further justify the characterization and response.

- On the evening before the Europa League match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv, #Maccabi (Israeli) fans were reported to have torn down and burned a Palestinian flag, shouted anti-Palestinian slogans, and vandalized a taxi.
- The following day, there were clashes between pro-Palestine protesters and Maccabi fans on Dam Square in Amsterdam.
- During and after the match, there were numerous attacks on Maccabi supporters across the city center. Footage showed masked youths targeting fans, with some allegedly asked if they were Jewish
- Five Maccabi fans were hospitalized and 20-30 others were slightly injured in the attacks.

While the Dutch authorities quickly condemned the violence as an "outburst of antisemitism," the evidence suggests the attacks were more directly targeted at the Israeli fans for their own provocative behaviors, rather than being motivated by broader #antisemitism against Amsterdam's Jewish community.
The initial incidents triggered by the #Maccabi fans, such as burning the Palestinian flag and chanting anti-Arab slogans, appear to have been the catalysts for the later attacks against them.

This is from October. The Israeli journalist Mohmmad Magadli, who works for Channel 12, was abused and threatened for sharing it and no longer takes part in regular broadcasts as far as I understand.
Israelis fail to understand their growing global condemnation, particularly since October 2023, for three reasons: they are shielded from these images, they choose not to look, and most troublingly, when confronted with this reality, they remain unmoved or viciously attack the messengers.

This selective reporting hides the true aim: to erase the Arab community as a legitimate minority. Analysis by Sikui-Ofuk and The Seventh Eye revealed that while the media described the amendment as a "correction/expansion of grounds for disqualification," it was referred to as a "law for disqualifying/removing supporters of terror" in discussions and interviews, ignoring the severe impact on a fifth of the country's citizens and the undermining of democracy.
Other laws aim to expel students and lecturers deemed "supporters of terror" from academic institutions, violating freedom of speech. A further proposal allows arrests for "incitement to terror" without prosecutorial approval, further enabling political persecution. Arab representation in Hebrew media is at a record low of 1.3% in 2023, reflecting the existing Jewish supremacy. Who could have guessed? WAPO's "investigation" is somewhat superfluous; citizen journalists already showed Israeli soccer fans initiating the violence. There was no program and the violence was most certainly not planned.
Initial confrontations involved aggressive actions by some Maccabi Tel Aviv fans, such as damaging a taxi and tearing down a Palestinian flag. These actions, along with online messaging containing threats against Israeli fans, fueled retaliatory actions by some local residents. The inadequate police response in the city center also contributed significantly to the escalation of violence.

Channel 14, which is aligned with the government and broadcasts programs like "The Patriots," is a key player. This show often features extreme views, downplays #Palestinian suffering, and frames criticism of #Israel as antisemitic. The report also notes a trend of self-censorship among journalists and the government's actions against critical media outlets.

Most Israeli outlets continue to ignore the human cost of the Gaza genocide. Israeli media outlets have admitted before to avoiding showing the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza (due to Israel's ongoing war of revenge, engineered starvation, and total blockade).
A recent poll by the "Accord" center at the Hebrew University reveals that 41% of Israelis believe channels 12 and 13 are biased in favor of the Palestinian population in Gaza . 64% of the public agree with the statement "There are no innocent people in Gaza". The poll also shows that 64% of the public believes that the Israeli media coverage regarding Gaza is balanced and does not need to present a broader picture of the situation of civilians there.

High-quality war mortality estimates, such as those that were produced for Kosovo, Iraq, and Darfur play a critical role in illuminating the human cost of war. During the tumult of war they are, however, challenging to obtain due to the conflicts themselves. The Gaza Ministry of Health (GMoH) has provided regular updates to their post-October-7 violent death tally for the Gaza Strip. However, GMoH reports have attracted both criticism and support. Here, we present results from a large-scale household survey, the Gaza Mortality Survey (GMS), which provides independent estimates of war-related deaths between October 7, 2023 and January 5, 2025. Our findings suggest that violent mortality has significantly exceeded official figures. Our central estimate for the extent of GMoH undercount closely matches a separate estimate made using capture-recapture methods. We also find that nonviolent excess deaths, often overlooked in conflict assessments, also represent a substantial burden. These results underscore the feasibility of mortality surveillance methodologies in some highly challenging war-affected settings and provide a crucial empirical foundation for assessing the true human cost of the war. medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/20…

Th Ministry (headed by Neo-Nazi friendly Amichai Chikli) attempted to directly influence Dutch political discourse by bypassing normal diplomatic channels - they sent a report directly to some members of the Dutch Parliament (Kamerleden) just before a parliamentary debate about violence in Amsterdam.
The report accused six Dutch pro-Palestinian organizations of having ties to #Hamas and blamed them for violence against Israeli football supporters and Jews in Amsterdam, particularly singling out the Palestinian Community Netherlands Foundation (#PGNL) as having a major organizing role. This unusual approach of distributing serious accusations through social media and directly to parliamentarians, rather than through proper diplomatic and law enforcement channels, drew sharp criticism from the Dutch cabinet who viewed it as potentially harmful to Dutch citizens and contrary to principles of democratic order

Is the backlash due to media narratives about AI replacing software engineers? Or is it the theft of training material without attribution? I want to understand why this topic evokes such emotion and why discussions often focus on negativity rather than control, safety, or advancements.

Seems like this is a good argument for specialization. Have AI make bad but fast code, pay specialty people to improve and make it secure when needed. My 2026 Furby with no connection to the outside world doesn't need secure code, it just needs to make kids smile.
Have you talked to any programmers about this? I know several who, in the past 6 months alone, have completely changed their view on exactly how effective AI is in automating parts of their coding. Not only are they using it, they are paying to use it because it gives them a personal return on investment...but you know, you can keep using that push lawnmower, just don't complain when the kids next door run circles around you at a quarter the cost.
