When not busy scavenging stories from social media about #antisemitism for their rolling coverage titled "wave of antisemitism" (mostly ultra-orthodox Jews complaining about not getting something they felt entitled to), Ynet is "reporting" (IDF briefings) about terrorist activities, including children and women throwing stones at unsuspecting, fragile soldiers who are left with no choice other than to “neutralize” them.
The text in Hebrew says:

This is not the definition of terrorist or terrorism. Yet Ynet is regularly choosing to use the term “מחבל" (terrorist) to describe Palestinians. The labeling of stone-throwing as terrorism and the individual as a terrorist represents a particular narrative about resistance activities in the occupied territories. The report also emphasizes that a knife was found in her possession after the fact, which serves to further justify the characterization and response.

1. Haaretz correctly identifies her as a "Palestinian woman" rather than a "female terrorist"
2. The report directly states she was "shot dead" rather than using the term "neutralized" (terminology #Ynet used intentionally and regularly to broadcast an imminent threat justifying the killing)
3. The report presents the stabbing attempt as an IDF claim ("IDF: She tried to stab soldiers") rather than a confirmed fact
4. Ynet's headline emphasized the knife being found in her possession, while Haaretz includes the stabbing attempt as an IDF statement in the context of the report
One of the very first pieces of public advice to the Bush administration following 9/11 was a clear-eyed, pragmatic piece on successful anti-terrorism practice by a British journalist writing in Salon that said *exactly*: "Don't shoot the children throwing stones."

This is the chronology established (matching earlier reports based on social media posts):
- On the evening before the Europa League match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv, #Maccabi (Israeli) fans were reported to have torn down and burned a Palestinian flag, shouted anti-Palestinian slogans, and vandalized a taxi.
- The following day, there were clashes between pro-Palestine protesters and Maccabi fans on Dam Square in Amsterdam.
- During and after the match, there were numerous attacks on Maccabi supporters across the city center. Footage showed masked youths targeting fans, with some allegedly asked if they were Jewish
- Five Maccabi fans were hospitalized and 20-30 others were slightly injured in the attacks.
[…] Verified social media videos show Maccabi fans setting off flares and fireworks, chanting in Hebrew “olé, olé, let the IDF win, we will fuck the Arabs”, and declaring that there were “no children” left in Gaza.
[…] Footage has also emerged of Maccabi supporters close to Amsterdam central railway station setting off fireworks, chanting anti-Palestine slogans and taking iron scaffolding tubes and wooden planks from a building site to use as weapons. Other footage shows Maccabi fans running through the streets swinging belts.
While the Dutch authorities quickly condemned the violence as an "outburst of antisemitism," the evidence suggests the attacks were more directly targeted at the Israeli fans for their own provocative behaviors, rather than being motivated by broader #antisemitism against Amsterdam's Jewish community.
The initial incidents triggered by the #Maccabi fans, such as burning the Palestinian flag and chanting anti-Arab slogans, appear to have been the catalysts for the later attacks against them.
In this context, the violence, while unacceptable, may have been a reaction to the prior actions of the Maccabi supporters rather than reflecting prejudice against Jews in general.

This nationalization of individual suffering transforms personal trauma into a collective, national wound, diminishing the focus on the individual woman's experience. The sources provide examples of rhetoric that compares the penetration of Israel's borders to sexual violation, further illustrating this conflation of individual and national bodies.
Objectification of Women: The analysis points out that the narratives often depict women as objects through which messages are conveyed between groups of men. Limited Recognition of Male Victims: The study also observes a significant lack of attention given to male victims of sexual violence. While acknowledging that women are statistically more likely to be victims of sexual violence, the sources argue that the near-exclusion of male victims from the narrative contributes to the underreporting of such cases and reinforces harmful stereotypes about masculinity and victimhood.
The study concludes that despite the apparent adoption of some feminist terminology and a focus on challenging denial mechanisms, the persistence of these patriarchal underpinnings suggests that a genuine shift in understanding and addressing sexual violence within Israeli society may still be in its early stages.
This is from October. The Israeli journalist Mohmmad Magadli, who works for Channel 12, was abused and threatened for sharing it and no longer takes part in regular broadcasts as far as I understand.
Israelis fail to understand their growing global condemnation, particularly since October 2023, for three reasons: they are shielded from these images, they choose not to look, and most troublingly, when confronted with this reality, they remain unmoved or viciously attack the messengers.
#Palestine / Israeli newspaper openly advocates for war crimes while being fully aware of their illegality
Writing in Israel Hayom, Shirit Aviram Cohen is angry that the IDF is not “allowed to win,” advocating for deliberately starving civilians in northern Gaza, despite being aware that this would violate international law.
Cohen criticizes military advocate general Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi for blocking the "Generals' Plan" based on its illegality, attempting to justify mass starvation by falsely claiming that civilians who don't evacuate can be classified as combatants under an "American code" - a legal fiction contradicted by established international law.
International legal experts categorically identify this plan as "genocidal" and a "textbook" case of ethnic cleansing. They point out that using starvation as a weapon, even after evacuation orders, constitutes a war crime and crime against humanity.
Oxford law professor Janina Dill explicitly refutes this argument as "a perversion of law," emphasizing that civilians who cannot or choose not to flee retain full protection rights. The absence of return guarantees further suggests the plan's true aim is permanent forced displacement of Palestinians from northern Gaza.
This isn't a debate over legal interpretation - it's an Israeli newspaper openly advocating for war crimes.

#Palestine / Israeli media's complicity in suppressing Palestinian citizens rights
Ailat Grill-Sharath, the Hebrew-language spokesperson for Sikui-Ofuk, an organization working to promote a shared and equitable society between Arab and Jewish citizens in #Israel, writesabout how Israeli media outlets are complicit in the suppression of Palestinian rights. While ostensibly covering the government's dangerous legislative blitz, major news organizations consistently omit or downplay laws specifically targeting the Arab community.
For example, #N12 criticized the legislation but ignored laws defined under "supporting terror," while #Calcalist warned of the judicial overhaul without mentioning the word "Arab." This selective reporting hides the true aim: to erase the Arab community as a legitimate minority. A proposed amendment to the Basic Law: The Knesset, designed to lower Arab voter turnout, exemplifies this biased coverage.
Analysis by Sikui-Ofuk and The Seventh Eye revealed that while the media described the amendment as a "correction/expansion of grounds for disqualification," it was referred to as a "law for disqualifying/removing supporters of terror" in discussions and interviews, ignoring the severe impact on a fifth of the country's citizens and the undermining of democracy.
Other laws aim to expel students and lecturers deemed "supporters of terror" from academic institutions, violating freedom of speech. A further proposal allows arrests for "incitement to terror" without prosecutorial approval, further enabling political persecution. Arab representation in Hebrew media is at a record low of 1.3% in 2023, reflecting the existing Jewish supremacy. The media must actively challenge this narrative and defend the Arab community, protecting democracy for all.

Who could have guessed? WAPO's "investigation" is somewhat superfluous; citizen journalists already showed Israeli soccer fans initiating the violence. There was no program and the violence was most certainly not planned.
Initial confrontations involved aggressive actions by some Maccabi Tel Aviv fans, such as damaging a taxi and tearing down a Palestinian flag. These actions, along with online messaging containing threats against Israeli fans, fueled retaliatory actions by some local residents. The inadequate police response in the city center also contributed significantly to the escalation of violence.
The #HRW report concludes that Israeli authorities have committed war crimes by intentionally depriving the civilian population in #Gaza of water, including by destroying and rendering useless objects essential to the survival of the civilian population, and using starvation as a method of warfare.

Davide Lerner, an Italian journalist, selectively watched eight episodes of Channel 14’s flagship program "The Patriots" between May and August 2024, to examine the changes occurring in Israeli media during the period of the war on Gaza.
Israel's media landscape is shifting, with a rise in right-wing voices and potential restrictions on free speech. Channel 14, which is aligned with the government and broadcasts programs like "The Patriots," is a key player. This show often features extreme views, downplays #Palestinian suffering, and frames criticism of #Israel as antisemitic. The report also notes a trend of self-censorship among journalists and the government's actions against critical media outlets.
[…] Even during conflict, outlets should strive to incorporate the other side's narratives and vicissitudes into their coverage. Israeli media have achieved this in the past, and as society slowly heals from the wounds of the war, a more open and inclusive coverage may make a come-back. But as things stand, too many voices – and facts – are being left unheard.
Most Israeli outlets continue to ignore the human cost of the Gaza genocide. This is from an item in #ynet, a news site which often rehashes content from right wing Islamophobic tags like the New York Post and Daily Mail seems obsessed with reporting on every incident involving Jews worldwide. Perhaps this explains their silence on the what’s really happening in Gaza.

Israeli media outlets have admitted before to avoiding showing the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza (due to Israel's ongoing war of revenge, engineered starvation, and total blockade).
A recent poll by the "Accord" center at the Hebrew University reveals that 41% of Israelis believe channels 12 and 13 are biased in favor of the Palestinian population in Gaza . 64% of the public agree with the statement "There are no innocent people in Gaza". The poll also shows that 64% of the public believes that the Israeli media coverage regarding Gaza is balanced and does not need to present a broader picture of the situation of civilians there.

Michael Spagat, an economics professor at Royal Holloway, University of London, specializes in quantitative analysis of war and mortality. His research on the Gaza conflict, including a study surveying 2,000 households, estimates that approximately 75,200 Palestinians died violent deaths as of January 2025, primarily due to Israeli munitions. Abstract
High-quality war mortality estimates, such as those that were produced for Kosovo, Iraq, and Darfur play a critical role in illuminating the human cost of war. During the tumult of war they are, however, challenging to obtain due to the conflicts themselves. The Gaza Ministry of Health (GMoH) has provided regular updates to their post-October-7 violent death tally for the Gaza Strip. However, GMoH reports have attracted both criticism and support. Here, we present results from a large-scale household survey, the Gaza Mortality Survey (GMS), which provides independent estimates of war-related deaths between October 7, 2023 and January 5, 2025. Our findings suggest that violent mortality has significantly exceeded official figures. Our central estimate for the extent of GMoH undercount closely matches a separate estimate made using capture-recapture methods. We also find that nonviolent excess deaths, often overlooked in conflict assessments, also represent a substantial burden. These results underscore the feasibility of mortality surveillance methodologies in some highly challenging war-affected settings and provide a crucial empirical foundation for assessing the true human cost of the war. medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/20…

Seems like this is a good argument for specialization. Have AI make bad but fast code, pay specialty people to improve and make it secure when needed. My 2026 Furby with no connection to the outside world doesn't need secure code, it just needs to make kids smile.
