We've had experience mixing radioactives and high explosives for almost exactly 80 years now and in all that time we have not solved the problems of atmospheric dispersion, aerosol transport, inhalation and submersion dose. We quibble over details but the fundamentals remain - if you do not want radioactive material all over, you should not blow it up.

Der ganze OLG-Beschluss ist dem BGH so suspekt und getragen vom dem BemĂŒhen, Susanne Eminger vor einem Prozess vor dem OLG zu bewahren, dass der Bundesgerichtshof entschieden hat, das Verfahren vor einem anderen Senat des OLG zu eröffnen, namentlich um "die Unvoreingenommenheit des Tatgerichts zu wahren". Offensichtlich hat der BGH den Eindruck, dass der 4. You guys might have read or heard about conjectures regarding Microsoft and Linux. Specifically, that Microsoft might, in the future, replace the windows kernel with something based on Linux. While I personally don't think this is going to happen, like, not at all, let's see why people might think that it's in the cards.
So first, Eric Raymond, one of the founders of the open source movement, wrote a blog post explaining that MS will definitely move to Linux as the base for Windows. I'll leave a link to this article in the description, but his arguments boil down to this:
PC sales are down and will keep decreasing as more people use tablets and phones. This means that Windows is less and less profitable, and will in time turn into a drag on their business.
Windows subsystem for Linux allows to run unmodified Linux binaries on Windows without emulation.
Proton and Wine allow people to run Windows software at near performance parity, and if it can run games, it can run anything.
Microsoft is porting some of their software to Linux, and it can only make sense if they're trying to test their internal emulation layer.
Now, let's see why I think none of these arguments make sense:
Financially, Windows isn't a burden to MS. It's free for the user, but not for the manufacturer. Hardware manufacturers that ship windows pay a fee to Microsoft, which is very lucrative. While it's not what they're focusing on right now, it's also a good source of income, and I don't see them just replacing the kernel because Windows doesn't make as much money as other things. The moment where PCs aren't needed in the workspace is far, far away. Manufacturers will keep selling workstations and laptops to companies for the foreseeable future, and this generates money for Microsoft. A lot of money, probably enough, without any other client, to keep developing their own kernel.
WSL: WSL is the exact opposite of porting windows to use the Linux kernel. It's allowing Windows to use Linux software WITHOUT running the Linux kernel. I personally think this is the route Windows is going to take to cater to developers and sysadmins that prefer working on Linux.
Wine and Proton: running games is easier than running desktop programs. Games all use one of 3 APIS: DIrectX12, Vulkan, or OpenGL. Vulkan and OpenGL are native to Linux, so getting games that use these is pretty easy, once you get the main windows executable started. Direct X doesn't exist on Linux, but DXVK, a translation layer, allows to transform the calls into Vulkan calls, and this has opened up a huge amount of games to Linux. Desktop programs, on the other hand, are way harder to run. They use their own toolkits, their own frameworks, and they don't look the same at all. Some will make use of a specific graphics API, some will use their own custom solution. Supporting all of these is very complex.
Porting software: what Microsoft ported is all stuff based on electron, or Chromium. Edge is based on Chromium, which already runs on Linux. Porting it is a low hanging fruit, not a hard development effort. Teams is a webapp, running with electron. It doesn't take any effort to give that to Linux users. What we haven't seen yet, is Office 365, which is the big moneymaker for Microsoft.
Emulation: Windows is already trying to emulate x86 on ARM, with much less success than Apple: their Surface Pro X is crippled by this, x86 software doesn't run that well, and most review point out it's bad in terms of performance. Sure, emulating Linux on the same architecture might not incur the same performance penalty, but if windows is going to use an emulation layer, wouldn't they contribute to Wine, since it's already super advanced ? They don't seem to be.
Compatibility: if you switch to a Linux kernel, sure, you could get windows apps running. But not the drivers. Manufacturers have, for decades, created drivers and software suites that only work with Windows and its kernel. This can't really be emulated. They have to be ported. Moving to a Linux kernel would virtually mean that everything that isn't plug and play would have to have their drivers re-developed from the ground up. Once again, I don't see Microsoft doing that and alienating their whole hardware ecosystem.

Halten wir mal die Studienlage fest: Menschen leben glĂŒcklicher und lĂ€nger wenn sie weniger Auto und mehr Fahrrad fahren, wenn sie um sich viel gesunde Natur haben, wenn sie viele soziale Kontakte haben und in ein funktionierendes soziales Netz eingebunden sind, wenn sie einen sinnstiftenden Job haben und mit diesem ausreichend verdienen, um sich entspannt eine Wohnung leisten zu können.
Und die komplette aktuelle Politik zielt auf das EXAKTE GEGENTEIL dieser Studienergebnisse.
Bei der Verkehrspolitik ist groĂer Rollback oder Rollnirgendwohin WEIL WIR EIN AUTOLAND SIND UND ICH REDE NICHT VON KLEINWAGEN!!!

In den kommenden 5 Jahren wird das sukzessive strenger werden, und ab 2030 wird jeder Verbrennungsmotor im Stadtgebiet Amsterdam verboten sein â es gibt keine Ausnahmen fĂŒr Touristen und keinen Bestandsschutz, auch nicht fĂŒr Oldtimer.
Das gilt auch fĂŒr die Stadt selbst, ihre Busse (die schon elektrisch sind) und auch die StraĂenkehrflotte
EDIT: Das sollte man auch als Tourist in den Niederlanden im Hinterkopf behalten. Amsterdam ist hier keine Ausnahme, es ist absehbar sehr bald nicht mehr möglich, mit einem Verbrennungsmotor in niederlĂ€ndische StĂ€dte rein zu fahren. Das gilt auch fĂŒr Lindner's Porsche und NiederlĂ€ndische GeldbuĂen sind etwas anders skaliert als in Deutschland.
Jeder Kanton gibt ungefĂ€hr bis 5 Millionen Franken pro Jahr fĂŒr Microsoft-Lizenzen aus (M365 Cloud). Und verpflichtet sich auf 5 Jahre. Macht mindestens 25 Mio CHF.
Stell Dir mal vor, rechnen wir das mal hoch fĂŒr alle 26 Kantone. Macht 650 Millionen Franken...

A friend and I are trying to get a machine set up to work as my school's library's printing computer instead of Windows ones. It is running NixOS. We got it bound to active directory, applications installed, etc., but the issue is that we can't get it to print. It'll say that it's printing but the print job never reaches the print server. To access the print server you're supposed to authenticate, but it doesn't ever give a prompt to. I tried turning off the firewall temporarily to see if that was the issue but it made no difference.
In configuration.nix, services.printing.enable=true and services.printing.drivers = [ pkgs.cups pkgs.hplip ]; (it is an HP printer that we're currently testing on).
I'm thinking that either SAMBA is configured incorrectly and/or the syntax that I put into CUPS for the printer is incorrect.
In CUPS it shows the syntax for a Windows printer via SAMBA as follows: smb://[workgroup/]server[:port}/printer
The issue is that I don't know what it means by that. I know the print queue, domain, IP, and port (although I'm under the impression that I don't need the port for this case), but I don't know how it would fit into this. I tried looking around on the CUPS wiki but it was vague and confusing to me. Any help with this is much appreciated.

So...I know a lot of people are not real impressed with the "No Kings" stuff, and I get it, but....
I think that these protests *as an addition to* serious organizing have a role to play. For one thing, large scale protests all across the country lets people see the *sheer volume* of opposition to Trump. I think this matters for morale if nothing else.
But also... For some people, No Kings will be the first time they ever participate in a protest, and doing so will make them more likely to participate in other, more focused, protests in the future.
That won't be true for everyone. A lot of people will go home like "patriotic duty done!" But for some this is a first that could lead to more.
Part of radicalization is realizing that the "proper means" of accomplishing change doesn't actually work, so going to an "ineffectual" protest now could be an important step in progressing some people from liberals to comrades.
They have to first learn what doesn't work in order to understand what must be done.
Point being: if you don't think "No Kings" is worth your time, you are probably right, but it would *not* be better to encourage people to do nothing at all than to participate in a (very mild) act of defiance.
We *want* people to learn to be defiant. We *want* them to feel that energy. We *want* them to get loud.
People don't just wake up one day ready to take down the system, do they? It's a process. I wouldn't take the protest organizers too seriously, but that's a different story.
I remember my first protest. I was there as a photo journalist. Just seeing people get kettled while the police screamed "DISPERSE," or seeing rows of cops with shotguns against maybe a hundred or so people who were just trying to protect a community garden.... Yeah. I was already racially inclined, but that really set it.
I think it's important to warn them. I think they should know that the police will just attack people. I think they should all know that cops get paid extra for riot overtime, so they have a financial incentive to start a riot. But some folks have to see it for themselves.
If it's all peaceful, then great. A mass show that does nothing is still people learning what doesn't work. If the cops attack, then at least folks will get radicalized by their injuries. I hope the damage is minimal.
But either way, telling people not to show up does nothing.
