Regarding Adam's comments about Siri's "not ready" clip. There was a key statement in that clip. Apple is trying to run the model on-device. You can't run a model of any usable size on an iPhone. Even if it had the memory, it would take days for it to crunch through the prompt. It's like trying to pull a tractor trailer with a Honda Civic.

So, instead, they have to run smaller models which can't handle any worth while tasks.

I installed Openmediavault on a computer recently, what should I do next?

I picked up an old optiplex I'm trying to use as a NAS and do other things with. Initially I put Debian on there but felt like I was running into too many problems with things like power management, remot desktop, Docker, and mounting drives.

So I put Openmediavault on there and it's working now. But what are some of the best ways to get the most out of it?

Can I do most things through the browser interface, or should I remote into it to install things?

How easily can I mount it as a network drive to other computers? I still have a Windows PC so I'd like to access it from there too if possible.

And what's the best way to get other services running on it? I'm thinking of how it's possible to set up torrenting software and control it with a remote app from your phone. (For managing and sharing my distros, of course).

Happy to hear any feedback on what people do with OMV, or their setups for a NAS in general. This is more of a tinkering computer to get me more familiar with networks and Linux.

I don't use OMV, but I have a nas server I built and here is my .02

  • set up an smb share in OMV for windows. Mounting that in windows should be trivial (don't hold me. Haven't used windows in years now, but last I used win10 smb was super easy to mount)
  • look into docker on OMV for deploying stuff. I run docker on my NAS and host a bunch of stuff including
  • with docker, if you want a GUI for ceeating, managing and interacting with your stuff, look at Dockge and Portainer
    • jellyfin for all the rips of my DVDs
    • navidrome for all the rips of my CDs
    • nextcloud to replace google stuff
    • radicale for my calendars
    • Joplin server for my notes
    • mealie for recipes
    • more stuff I can't think of right now

Here’s the thing: fuck the ayatollah and his mullahs and fuck Hamas (neither of those bastards would hesitate to put a bullet in the head of an atheist apostate like me) but that doesn’t mean you attack the people of Iran (most of whom oppose the regime) or Palestine (who also suffer under the yoke of Hamas – an organisation that, furthermore, was funded and supported by Netanyahu’s regime to sabotage the peace process).

If you cannot separate authoritarian regimes from the people being oppressed by them, and if you condone the indiscriminate slaughter of the latter, then don’t be surprised when the same rules end up applying to you… given the way things are going in the United States, for example.

We have rules of combat and international law for a reason. It’s not because we’re morally superior; far from it. It’s because we don’t want that same shit done to us. That’s a dangerous thing to forget.

Around 10,000 Russian soldiers are fighting in Russia's Kursk region, about 90 square kilometers (35 square miles) of which is controlled by Ukraine, Ukraine's top military commander said.

Linguists analyzed websites and blogs to determine where vulgarity was most common. They found Americans swear more on the internet than other English-speaking groups.

Almost two billion words — just under 600 of them swear words — were carefully assessed, and the United States then handed the dubious honor of being the most cursing country in the English-speaking world, at least online.

For the Australian duo behind the research, it came as a surprise that the inhabitants of their own country did not lead the way, such is the stereotype that Aussies are easy-going and relaxed, in actions and words.

But Australians were only the third-most likely citizens to drop a swear word in conversation online.

The reason that America — viewed by some to be a more conservative and polite culture among English-speakers — is the most profane community online may be the anonymity of the screen, according to the study's co-author Martin Schweinberger, a linguist at the University of Queensland, Australia.

Jury awards $2.25 million to Georgia couple in suit over autopsy images of decapitated baby

A jury has awarded a Georgia couple $2.25 million in their lawsuit accusing a pathologist of posting graphic videos of an autopsy of their decapitated baby.

A Fulton County jury returned the verdict against Dr. Jackson Gates on Wednesday. The couple, Jessica Ross and Treveon Isaiah Taylor Sr., hired Gates to perform an autopsy on their son, Treveon Taylor Jr., who was decapitated during delivery in July 2023.

They have separately sued the doctor who delivered the baby and the hospital where the delivery occurred. That case is pending.

In a lawsuit filed in September 2023, the couple said Gates posted several videos of the autopsy on Instagram without their permission. Gates initially removed the videos after receiving a letter from the couple’s attorneys, but then reposted them, according to the couple’s attorneys.

Das zieht sich bei #ARD und #ZDF durch: unkritisch wird oft alles geglaubt, was Regierungsvertreter/innen westlicher / pro-westlicher Regierungen erzählen. Das fällt besonders auf bei der Außenpolitik, aber auch z. B. bei der Umweltpoltik und Wirtschaftspolitik. Da werden Lügen zu E-Fuels oder dass Steuersenkungen für Konzerne die Wirtschaft ankurbeln, sich zu eigen gemacht und weiterverbreitet.

Speaking of maps, I've noticed several articles now, especially in the AP, with maps of the area where Iran is partly cut off so that it looks significantly smaller than it actually is. Granted it must be challenging to create a squarish map of that area that includes both Israel and Iran, but I can't help thinking this is an editorial choice. Iran is a large country, much larger than Iraq and almost the size of Saudi Arabia. Obviously there's much more to the situation than geographic area but I do think the choices in visuals can be telling.

There is no proof of anything.

For all I know, it could have been a volcanic eruption.

Both Netanhayu and Trump justify their unprovoked attacks on Iran by saying that Iran hates them. Which makes them look weak and immature imo, (and a regime change will not solve the hate problem, I suspect).

If we all want more search traffic, the one thing we have to do is make content.

Here are some free tools for content marketing that can help you make the most of search traffic.

Google Analytics


I think you should start using Google Analytics as soon as possible if you haven't already. Google Analytics is the only source of information that gives you high-quality and detailed information.

It's what we have to work with in an age where Google rules. Most of the other data tools just use the API to access Google's data.

When it comes to content marketing or SEO, you can't just ignore Google Analytics. Almost all of the important and actionable information about site visitors, traffic, etc. comes from this key source.

ClickFlow Content Decay


Have you noticed that over time, your rankings go down?

Not just because Google changed the way it works. Most of the time, old content won't do as well as new content because it's old.

The ClickFlow Content Decay Tool is different because it shows you which old pages on your site aren't doing as well as they used to. These old posts should be updated with new information.

First, you'll need to link the Content Decay Tool to your Google Search Console.

Google Search Console


Most people use Google Search Console to see which keywords bring them traffic.

My favourite way to use Search Console is to find out which of my blog posts gets a lot of search impressions but has a click-through rate of less than 4%.

Then, I change each of those pages so that my meta tags have the right keywords. Then I look to see which keywords I am ranking for but not really targeting yet. I then create new content around those terms or change existing content to target them.

Content Ideas


Buzzsumo has a feature that Ubersuggest also has, but it is not free. The name of it is Content Ideas.

Just type in a word or phrase, and it will show you all of the popular blog posts that use that word or phrase.

The blog posts are then sorted by the number of social shares, backlinks, and search traffic.

This lets you write about things people want to read, which means you'll get more traffic.

One of the best things I've done to get more traffic is to translate my content.

A lot of people ask me if they will get in trouble if they copy and translate their own content.

None of it is "right or wrong per normal human understanding" and yet, if we can transcend the polarities of "thought, conditioned mind" then maybe we can enter the SPACE of TRANSCENDENCE which is the HEALING FORCE!

When we enter that SPACE, time no longer has control, so a BLIP (which might be 30 seconds or 1 hour) can have HEALING POWER that can neutralize aeons of misery, if only within our own psyches. Then consider the "effect of that 30 seconds or 1 hour"?

I fess up, I am far from perfect and I don't know that perfection exists in any kind of "human experience". The only thing we can guarantee is that change is the constant and yet within each of us also EXISTS THE UNCHANGEABLE! That's the mystery 🙏
