Really good point by several people about diversity of distros, so I've tried searching for this particular problem on the user's particular distro (Linux Mint).
Top results in DDG for "linux mint wifi not working":
forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic…
thelinuxcode.com/fix-linux-min…
reallinuxuser.com/how-to-insta…
Same query on Google:
reddit.com/r/linuxmint/comment…
forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic…

To be fair, the first result on Google doesn't have CLI, but does still go straight to more techy stuff.
I'm wondering if the flight mode -> toggle wifi solution is too simple for Linux people to write about?

Also these scary CLI spells have a reason for existing as well 😀

Because web search is in all likelihood not going to take into account the specifics of the system the user is running, and favor the answer that helps the most Linux systems. And I'd fathom a guess that most Linux systems in existence today are headless and accessible via SSH at best, so the most universal answers are probably going to be for the command line.
So either web search has to stop being to go-to source, or Linux needs a very separate desktop brand that can pull generic Linux answers away from web search results when the user mentions it. Something comparable to Ubuntu or SteamOS. Because apparently even counting on the user to know they're using a GNOME DE is too generous these days.
And both these routes are *monumentally* difficult.

in reply to FediThing 🏳️🌈 • • •This is mainly a perception problem. The non-techy person was not just using Linux, but also using a display manager with a network manager widget.
A raspberry PI running in headless mode can also be running Linux, but probably would need the CLI version of the network manager.
Linux has so many flavours that some of them are user friendly with graphical environments, while others are lean and more server-like.
