So I've been using rootless podman-compose to run my arr stack forever, and I've never had this issue. What seems to be happening is that sometimes, but not always, when a new folder is created or an existing folder's contents are modified, it seems to be setting the files and their folder's owner to "52587" which does not exist. This causes it to then not be able to access those files. I can manually change them back, of course, but the container just overwrites it again. If I specify the user in the compose.yml, it seems to ignore it. It is happening with a few different containers (all in the same compose.yml), as I've seen it now with Radarr and NZBget. The files are on a 12TB drive, and the container mounts and compose.yml are on the same drive, but the OS (Bazzite) is on a separate drive.
My thoughts so far for possibilities:
1. The podman install is fucked somehow
2. The drive itself is fucked
3. Bazzite's weirdness is causing an issue
For #1, podman comes with Bazzite by default so I'm not entirely sure if I can rpm-ostree remove and reinstall, though that might be the next step I try. I'm not terribly good with podman to begin with so I'm not sure how to go about troubleshooting it much otherwise.
For #2, this is entirely a possibility, the drive is pretty old, but I'm not seeing any errors or anything in the SMART stuff and outside of this specific issue I have seen no other problems there.
For #3, this issue did start to happen maybe a month after switching from Arch to Bazzite, mostly because I also wanted to use this machine for Sunshine streaming and my arch install was a mess anyway. I know Arch, though, and this immutable stuff has tripped me up before, so maybe I go back. Feels like admitting defeat though, lol.
Any ideas to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Ok, so why is the right so terrified of this guy? (keep in mind, this asshole is a sitting U.S. congressman calling for his deportation).
Perhaps partially because Mamdani is calling for inexpensive city-run grocery stores and other programs to benefit the poor and working class.
But even more so because of what his victory represents: The mass outrage of the U.S. public, over half of whom cannot afford the basic necessities of life, at the billionaire class, as it strips away the minimum safety net that previously existed, loots the government coffers, and gives itself massive tax cuts, while promoting genocide, environmental devastation, and world war.
God forbid other Mamdanis start winning in D.C., Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
So, what should we expect next?
Ans: Cuomo 2.0, running as an independent in the general election, courting the votes of so-called moderate Dems, as well as the Republicans, and quite possibly becoming the next mayor of NYC, just like Brown did to Black Lives Matters activist India Walton in the 2021 race for mayor of Buffalo.

I already talked about the /e/ Android ROM, a while ago, and while I really love this ultimate de-googled version of Android, there were also a few concerns about security, look and feel, how degoogled it all really is, and where the data is going. The /e/ project has also been updated quite a lot since my last video, so I think it's time to take another look at /e/.

List of stuff /e/ removes from AOSP:
https://e.foundation/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/e-state-of-degooglisation.pdf
Ok, so one of the main comments I got on the video is that /e/ is based on an old version of Android. It was Android 8 in my previous video. Of course, /e/ also has releases based on newer Android versions.
On my Galaxy S9+, it goes up to Android Q (Android 10), which is also the case for a lot of phones out there.
One of my main problems with /e/ was that all the apps looked disjointed, using different accent colors, and sharing a kit-kat era look and feel.
I can happily report that with versions 0.15 and 0.16, this is no longer the case. The default apps, which are forks of open source android apps, now sport a nice white and blue color scheme, except for the email client and the maps app, which haven't been updated yet.
Another common comment I got on the previous video was that you were just giving your data to the /e/ project instead of giving it to Google.
While that, in itself, is a weird argument, as /e/ is a small nonprofit, and would really struggle to do anything with that data, it also doesn't apply here at all.
First, the account isn't mandatory: you can skip if if you'd prefer to use what you already have.
Second, the data you send to your /e/ account is encrypted, the /e/ project can't access it.
And third, /e/ doesn't sell ads, so they wouldn't even have any use for your data in the first place.
Now, speaking of the /e/ account, they only offered 1Gb of free storage, which was a meager amount, and you couldn't really upgrade that.
They now announced that, while the free tier is still only 1Gb, you can up that to 20Gb for 2 euros per month, all the way up to 1Tb for 13 euros per month. It's pricier than what the "big tech" companies offer, but it's still not a terrible deal, especially as this data isn't shared or accessed. If I didn't already have my own Nextcloud server, that's definitely something I'd be interested in, even if I didn't use /e/ on my phone.
The only issue is that this ecloud is basically access to a Nextcloud account, but you don't get to install your own apps on it
Now another common comment I got was "just use Lineage OS instead". While /e/ is a fork of Lineage, it's also going a lot further to remove Google stuff from AOSP.
Lineage still uses the Google DNS servers, so they know what your device is trying to access, and they also use Google to connect to captive portals, like airport wifi.
It also uses Google services to aid GPS positioning, and as the Android Open Source Project webview, which calls to Google as well.
/e/ removes the connectivity check to Google, replacing it with their own servers, they removed calls to the Google time servers and replaced them with the standard provider for internet time, and while the DNS servers aren't changed automatically, you can change them in the settings as well.
So, in short, Lienage OS is great, but if you want to remove every bit of Google from your phone, /e/ is a better option.
Now some people were also saying that /e/ has "stolen" code from Lineage OS and other apps, without giving credit. This has been proven to be completely false, as they are clearly stating what they based their stuff on in their FAQ:
https://e.foundation/get-started/
Smartphones preinstalled with /e/ weren't available in the US or Canada when I made my previous video, now they are.
Some concerns were raised about security, especially since /e/ doesn't use the Play store, so how could we be sure that apps were unaltered binaries? the /e/ store uses the CleanAPK repositories.

@davidallengreen points out that when we think about how international law is faring in the current global political situation, there's a big difference between compliance & enforcement.... while (as Harold Koh famously pointed out) most countries follow international law most of the time, when a state chooses not to (or even to acknowledge its salience) we find ourselves in a world where sovereign self-restraint has (dangerously) evaporated!

Public schools in Maryland must allow parents with religious objections to withdraw their children from classes in which storybooks with L.G.B.T.Q. themes are discussed, the Supreme Court ruled on Friday. The vote was 6 to 3, with the court’s liberal members in dissent.
The case extended a winning streak for claims of religious freedom at the court, gains that have often come at the expense of other values, notably gay rights.
The case concerned a new curriculum adopted in 2022 for prekindergarten through the fifth grade by the Montgomery County Public Schools, Maryland’s largest school system.
The storybooks included “Pride Puppy,” an alphabet primer about a family whose puppy gets lost at a Pride parade; “Love, Violet,” about a girl who develops a crush on her female classmate; “Born Ready,” about a transgender boy; and “Uncle Bobby’s Wedding,” about a same-sex union.
At first, the school system gave parents notice when the storybooks were to be discussed, along with the opportunity to have their children excused. But school administrators soon eliminated the advance notice and opt-out policy, saying it was hard to administer, led to absenteeism and risked “exposing students who believe the storybooks represent them and their families to social stigma and isolation.”

in reply to zaphodb2002 • • •Rootless Docker and Podman run their applications within a user namespace. This means most of the user IDs within the container are mapped to a different uid range on the host, often called a subuid. It's part of how "rootless" mode can allow an unprivileged user to run software that expects to have privileged IDs.
github.com/containers/podman/b…
Are you sure it doesn't exist? Have you looked at the ranges defined in /etc/subuid on the host?
My first thought is that the uid numbers you see might be some of your host user's subuids. If so, they will appear as different uids (perhaps with usernames) within the container. Try launching a shell within the container and examining the same files, to see what their owners appear as there.
If this is what's happening, it's normal. As long as the software trying to access the files and the software creating the files are both in the same container, it should be fine. If it doesn't work, there's probably another problem in play.
By the way, Podman almost certainly has a way to map certain container uids to host uids of your choice, which can be convenient when you want to share files between containers or between a container and the host.

I had this issue when an image inherited a non-root user upstream.
