You know what I miss in word processors: Show Control Codes.
That gave you everything you needed to know why this thing won't do what you want it to and why this other thing is stuck and you can't move it. It also made it so much easier to troubleshoot inserting images.
I don’t know if I should be sorry or happy to tell you that Microsoft has never left behind show codes. Look on the Home bar for what looks like a paragraph symbol. Each space is a dot. Tabs are a right-pointing arrow. Separately, the ruler can also be made visible for margins and indents.
@Blueteamsherpa It's part of the way there. What I really want is Markdown but with all of Word's advanced features. Word doesn't show me control codes for things like italics, bold, tables, URLs. I tend to use Obsidian or VS Code for first drafts in pure Markdown and then copy it over to Word to finalize it with stuff like headers, footers, page numbers, table of contents, etc.
I used to use OneNote just for its ability to organize ideas but its so aggressive with the genAI crap that I'm looking for alternatives. Also, I feel like OneNote hasn't had any meaningful updates or added features in years. It's still stuck in 2010.

aah I have early signs of arthritis myself in my right hand from a boxer’s fracture when I was an amateur fighter. I’m not too familiar with the shinai but as I understand it the recommended hand protection is called a “kote” but I think any lobster mitten style glove would work.
I don’t recommend using any 5 finger style gloves but if it comes down to affordability its better than nothing. Trust me though, spending $100+ on hand protection is worth the investment to protect your hands if you want to spar with any amount of force.

I haven't had a proper game console since the PS3.
I would like to get one, mostly to play with my family (wife, 7yo kid). I had been waiting for the Switch 2 for a while now (I really resisted the urge to get a Switch OLED back when it was released...).
On the plus side:
it's really geared towards family/party gaming
it's Nintendo, so you get the whole usual games (Mario Kart, Zelda, etc.)
like most consoles, it's plug and play and can be enjoyed in the living room (I kind of gave up trying to set up a proper gaming experience with my Linux PCs, given that I don't have the hardware for it)
On the minus side:
the battery life is not great to say the least (2.5 hours takes me back of the Game Gear in early 90s!)
the screen seems to be pretty bad too (at least it's a step back from the OLED one of the Switch)
the joycons are still not using a Hall effect sensor, meaning they might still be prone to drifting
most of the games will not be sold as proper cartridges but as download codes
the whole thing (console, additional gamepads, games) is quite pricey
it's Nintendo, famous for their anti-everything (anti-homebrew, anti-emulation, anti-piracy)
Should I still go with it, or is there a better option? (I hope the better option is not to wait 4 more years for Nintendo to release a newer Switch 2 that would fix the shitty hardware).
I personally don't recommend anyone get the Switch 2. The new price points are frankly ridiculous, and I'd hate to see that shit get justified by sales.
Personally, I'd recommend looking into handheld PCs. I haven't looked into them much myself due to lack of money, but they're generally much more worth the cost from what I've heard.
All that said, I missed that you were looking for something to play with your 7 year old child. Switch might be better, but any handheld would be... notably destructible, so that's a factor to keep in mind.

Yeah, Mastodon's Unlisted is such a misnomer. My biggest gripe with it is that it mainly means "unsearchable".
And you can't really change that on a server, since that would mean that people who did mean "unsearchable" when they chose "unlisted", suddenly find their posts showing up in searches without their consent...
Friendica meanwhile shows threads as threads, but without the collapsing which would be very useful.
That's an urban legend, alas. While that *would* be a great way to make "unlisted" work, that's absolutely, positively, 100% *not* how "unlisted" works.
