🇺🇸 #US - 🇮🇶 #Iraq: Over 14 years ago, WikiLeaks released the "Collateral Murder" video, showing a US Apache helicopter gunning down a group of Iraqi civilians, including two Reuters journalists, in Baghdad. The pilots can be heard laughing as they fire.

The journalists were Namir Noor-Eldeen, a 22 year old photojournalist and Saeed Chmagh, a 40 year old driver and assistant. Based on the context of the video, the camera equipment carried by Noor-Eldeen was apparently mistaken for a weapon. #video

Dans cette interview pour Olivier Berruyer sur Élucid, Thierry Coville décrypte les dessous du conflit entre l’Iran et Israël, dans un contexte historique marqué par l’intervention directe et inédite des États-Unis sur le sol iranien. À rebours des caricatures faciles qui déferlent sur les plateau TV, Thierry Coville montre comment l’Iran est piégé dans une impasse diplomatique, étranglé par les sanctions occidentales, et constamment trahi par ceux-là mêmes qui se revendiquent du droit international. La question est surtout de déterminer qui a gagner cette bataille. Le programme nucléaire civil iranien est détruit (selon les États-Unis), aucune fuite radioactive n'est perçue par l'AIEA mais un retour aux négociations est demander, avec un pré-requis : la fin du programme nucléaire civil iranien (ce qui ne repose sur rien puisque tout le monde peut se doter d'un programme civil s'il en a les moyens). Les iraniens ont perçu la duplicité de l'AIEA, qui a fournit toutes les informations pour mener à bien la première attaque et l'assassinat des personnels iraniens (et de leurs familles) du programme.
Les principaux ports et aéroports d'Israël ont été touchés, le pays le plus sûr pour les juifs a prit du plomb dans l'aile et leur prochaine attaque (qui est toujours possible avec ces lumières) sera sans aucun doute la dernière.
L'Iran étant sous sanctions depuis trente ans, ne veut pas continuer la guerre et ils vont négocier, d'ailleurs la meilleure option est de rejoindre davantage les BRICS+, de permettre l'implantation chinoise et russe. L'otan tout entier ne sera plus qu'une coquille vide, même avec 5, 10, 100% du pib, pour l'industrie militaro-industrielle.

Alors que la cheffe de la diplomatie européenne, Kaja Kallas, présentait ce jeudi un rapport sur les violations du droit international commises par Israël, les 27 États membres de l’Union européenne peinent toujours à s’accorder sur une éventuelle suspension de l’accord d’association avec l’État hébreu.
Quelques semaines plus tôt, se tenait le premier forum étudiant pour la Palestine.
Il a eu lieu au Parlement européen et il réunissait les leaders des mouvements étudiants de toute l’Europe, afin de partager leurs expériences, tisser des liens, et formuler des revendications communes afin de construire un front uni en solidarité avec la cause palestinienne.
C'est un événement qui a été organisé par Rima Hassan et ses équipes. L'eurodéputée s'était notamment illustrée par son soutien affiché aux mobilisations étudiantes, allant notamment jusqu'à se rendre en personne à des rassemblements organisés par les étudiants.

if you don't want to negotiate with your employees/borderline slave labor, then you shouldn't have the opportunity to run a business.

It would be the perfect role for her. At any rate, to the horror of settled Parisians, Hidalgo has destroyed signature parts of Paris’s architectural heritage, digging up 19th-century fountains, lamp-posts and benches and replacing them with plastic mushroom seats. She has ruled over the worst rubbish crisis the city has seen in generations. She axed half of Paris’s parking spaces because they take up too much public space. The blight of eco-obsessed socialist mayors used to feel distinctly European. The fact that American cities are electing people like this is particularly jarring. Just a decade or two ago, the American dream meant the very opposite of what people like Mamdani stand for. Karen Bass, the woke mayor of LA, and Michelle Wu, who has been peddling social justice ideology in Boston, my hometown, are two further examples.

FYI: Bitmap fonts might break with the latest fontconfig release

A new version of fontconfig release recently with the added option to disable bitmap fonts. If you're using a rolling release distro, this might break bitmap fonts for you. It definitely does on Arch (and likely Arch-based distros) because they opted to disable them by default for some reason (AFAICT upstream gives the choice but does not recommend one way or the other).

This'll cause fontconfig to skip bitmap fonts, your apps won't be able to access them.

To fix it, you need to configure fontconfig to not ignore bitmap fonts. There are a number of ways to do that.

I'd recommend a user-level fontconfig file. Create $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/fontconfig/fonts.conf with below contents and you get your bitmap fonts back. This negates the file in /etc/fonts/conf.d/70-no-bitmaps-except-emoji.conf. This is the first time I'm configuring fontconfig so there may be a better way ¯_(ツ)_/¯

This should've definitely been news imo especially because this is not the default behavior of upstream. I shouldn't have to read fontconfig PRs to figure out why my fonts broke, even on Arch.

A reminder that the anti-Iraq-war protests were some of the largest demonstrations in human history and they failed. The "carrying signs and yelling at empty buildings" theory of change comes from a sanitized retelling of past movements.

Today, every group with a twitter is calling for a demonstration in their town, but movements that don't cause power to feel pain and don't have the institutional capacity to negotiate if/when they do are doomed to failure.

The worst punishment anyone could inflict on those who govern and police us today would be to compel them to live in a society in which everything they've done is regarded as embarrassing-for them to have to sit in assemblies in which no one listens to them, to go on living among us without any special privileges in full awareness of the harm they have done. If we fantasize about anything, let us fantasize about making our movements so strong that we will hardly have to kill anyone to overthrow the state and abolish capitalism. This is more becoming of our dignity as partisans of liberation.
So we repudiate the logic of the guillotine. We don't want to exterminate our enemies. We don't think the way to create harmony is to subtract everyone who does not share our ideology from the world. Our vision is a world in which many worlds fit, as Subcomandante Marcos put it—a world in which the only thing that is impossible is to dominate and oppress.
Anarchism is a proposal for everyone regarding how we might go about improving our lives-workers and unemployed people, people of all ethnicities and genders and nationalities or lack thereof. The anarchist proposal is not in the interests of one currently existing group against another: it is not a way to enrich the poor at the expense of the rich, or to empower one ethnicity, nationality, or religion at others' expense. That entire way of thinking is part of what we are trying to escape. All of the "interests" that supposedly characterize different categories of people are products of the prevailing order and must be transformed along with it, not preserved or pandered to.
From our perspective, even the topmost positions of wealth and power that are available in the existing order are worthless. Nothing that capitalism and the state have to offer are of any value to us. We propose anarchist revolution on the grounds that it could finally fulfill longings that the prevailing social order will never satisfy: the desire to be able to provide for oneself and one's loved ones without doing so at anyone else's expense, the wish to be valued for one's creativity and character rather than for how much profit one can generate, the longing to structure one's life around what is profoundly joyous rather than according to the imperatives of competition.

Against the Logic of the Guillotine

Fetishizing the guillotine is like fetishizing the state: it means celebrating an instrument of murder that will always be used chiefly against us.
