@scottdhansen I'm not sure they have prominent scent glands. I'm very familiar with muskrat and beaver glands. I did a cursory look and removed the fat for this purpose but it is what it is.

On pelt, it's summertime, worth nothing. Very springy. Not sellable anyway (it's not a furbearer) but I would keep it during winter although I never get these in winter.

Much of my family left Turkey after my great-grandfather was murdered in the Armenian Genocide. Turkey, Israel, and many other countries still deny this genocide occurred. It’s a denial that enables genocides like that in Gaza to take place today.

Die Aussage, dass Filme nur mit weiblichen Pferden gedreht werden, ist ein Mythos bzw. eine vereinfachte Darstellung. Es gibt jedoch einige praktische Gründe, warum in vielen Filmproduktionen oft Stuten (weibliche Pferde) oder Wallache (kastrierte männliche Pferde) bevorzugt werden:

  1. Wallache und Stuten sind ruhiger und besser kontrollierbar

Hengste (unkastrierte männliche Pferde) haben oft ein temperamentvolleres und dominanteres Verhalten, besonders in Gegenwart von Stuten. Das macht sie schwerer zu kontrollieren, was bei Filmaufnahmen ein Problem sein kann.

Wallache sind durch die Kastration in der Regel ruhiger und einfacher zu handhaben.

Stuten sind zwar zyklusabhängig manchmal launisch, aber meist berechenbarer als Hengste.

  1. Sicherheit am Set

Ein Filmset ist voll mit Menschen, Technik, Lichtern und oft lauter Geräuschkulisse. Pferde müssen in dieser Umgebung ruhig bleiben und präzise Anweisungen befolgen. Stuten und Wallache sind in der Regel zuverlässiger in solchen Situationen.

  1. Optik ist wichtiger als Geschlecht

In vielen Fällen ist es egal, ob das Pferd männlich oder weiblich ist – Hauptsache, es sieht so aus, wie es die Rolle erfordert. Die Zuschauer erkennen ohnehin selten das Geschlecht des Pferdes auf der Leinwand.

  1. Mehrfachverwendung eines Pferdes

Oft wird ein einzelnes Pferd durch mehrere Pferde "gedoubelt" (z. B. für Nahaufnahmen, Stunts etc.). Dabei müssen alle Pferde möglichst gleich aussehen. Da Hengste schwieriger mit anderen Pferden zusammenarbeiten, werden lieber Stuten oder Wallache für solche Gruppenarbeiten eingesetzt.

Fazit:

Es werden nicht ausschließlich weibliche Pferde in Filmen eingesetzt – aber Stuten und Wallache sind aufgrund ihres Verhaltens, ihrer Trainierbarkeit und der Sicherheit am Set meist die bessere Wahl. Hengste sind eher die Ausnahme, außer es ist für die Handlung oder eine besondere Szene notwendig.

I won the lottery! A few weeks ago I bought my first scratch off ticket in years and won zero. Then this week I bought another scratch off ticket and won $4. That means I'm up $2. I'm considering reinvesting my winnings in 4 $1 tickets. Given that the average healthy body temperature is ~98.6⁰ F, and humidity on the Gulf Coast tends to be so high you gotta drink the air, I prefer temperatures 85⁰ or lower.

With high temperatures and high humidity, sweat can't even evaporate, forcing your internal body temperature into unhealthy feverish levels. I'm not a fan of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

I'm also not a fan of freezing temperatures either, but at least people can dress in layers to keep warm when it's cold.

i don't think i disagree with any of your "actual" points, but i kinda don't like the specific phrasing of "anyone could make music <or other art form>"

i've recently been doing some more-serious self-experiments and found that I *definitely* (neurologically?) cannot hear what other people seem to hear in music (amusia is a thing, apparently). everyone around me nowadays also suspects i have awful undiagnosed dyspraxia which made me *hate* "doing art" as a child

Russia's terror attacks against Ukraine have significantly increased the last 3 months and reached another height. 477 drones, 46 cruise missiles and 14 ballistic missiles were used only last night. The targets of this terror attack were all far from the frontlines.

Putin is clearly feeling emboldened by the indecisiveness of the West, especially by this US administration, but also by European timidness. It proves once more that appeasement only emboldens Russian aggression and causes more war.

That's right, this match is 49-39 in what is one of the healthier turnouts for this tournament! The match leader - SRK - has taken up the bold approach of showcasing a favorite boomer pasttime: mocking child abuse victims! :kannawoah:

I have my spreadsheet up: I am staring at *at least five* people who would have almost certainly voted for Dicey if not for that behavior. Truly, SiRrogueKnight has taken this lead - it hasn't just been given to him.

Dicey, on the other hand, is nowhere to be found. He's correctly enacted the strategy of "not sperging all over the finals thread." The end of the tournament proper is coming up about 12 hours from now. A 10 vote lead is certainly something that can be overcome, but it's a challenge with only half a day left. Can Sui and Owl grab up ten more people to vote for Dicey, or will they spend the next year licking their wounds and sharpening their knives to try to see Dicey win next time?
