Below each firebox is an ash box, a small exhaust transfer slot is at the outside edge between the firebox and the ash box below it. Intake air enters at the top of one of the two fireboxes, exhaust exits via one of the two ash boxes. A set of valves selects which firebox gets intake air and which ash box gets exhaust vacuum.
Intake left, exhaust right makes the left firebox downdraft and the right firebox cross-draft. Green arrow shows this. Obviously inverting the intake and exhaust side swaps the roles.
Freshly added wood goes on the downdraft side, where pre-heated intake air bakes the moisture out of the wood. Steam from the fresh wood transfers to the cross-draft side where hot coals pull oxygen from the air and steam, creating flammable carbon monoxide and hydrogen gasses.

For profit companies who have built walled gardens and wish to stay that way (reddit, tumblr, meta, linkedin, etc.) are at ethical odds with the ActivityPub world, insofar as people are trying vehemently to get away from these companies. But you'll notice for profit companies who are within the ideals of Fedipeople (for example Nitro, or Tuta, or Proton, or Mullvad) do not get griefed due to alignment of values and morals of the communities in question.
But the pitch wasn't "everything will be interoperable unless the company doesn't mean it or wants to make money or we aren't "morally aligned", whatever that means".

The broadcaster said some 75 detainees were currently being held at the underground prison.
“Even the small window in the ward has been sealed off for the detainees,” it added. Describing the conditions in the underground prison as harsh, KAN said detainees there are shackled and confined to their cells for 23 hours a day.

He has been held under administrative detention (imprisonment without a trial or committing an offense) since 11 September, 2023.

Their deaths were confirmed in responses sent by the Israeli military to Palestinian #humanrights organizations, which provided only the dates of death without further details regarding the circumstances of their deaths, WAFA reported.

The organizations accused Israel of carrying out systematic “slow killing” practices in its detention facilities, citing the spread of disease, such as scabies, as a method of torture and neglect. One more Palestinian detainee dies in #Israeli custody A #Palestinian administrative detainee has died at Israel’s Soroka Hospital, according to the Palestinian authorities.
Lo’ay Faisal Nasr-Allah, 22, died at the hospital where he was transfered to from from Negev Prison, Wafa news agency said in a report quoting the Civil Affairs Commission in the occupied territory.
It added that the detainee was from the occupied #WestBank governorate of #Jenin, adding that he was held under administrative detention since March 26 last year.
