One last gay thought for pride month: if you’re someone who has never experienced discrimination you may not understand why we need pride and rainbows everywhere. When I see a pride flag, it tells me that I am okay to be here. I look for pride flags to know if a neighborhood is safe. I look for pride flags to know if a business will treat me with decency. It’s the bare minimum and the least effort and isn’t real activism and all the other things, but it’s something better than being openly hated

Friends of EFF Public Knowledge are asking to stop Congress from making your Wi-Fi worse and cell service more expensive. Let them know what you think here: votervoice.net/PublicKnowledge…

I think in a truly free market where anyone can create any video game using any franchise without being restricted by IP laws, live service games would be harder to sell because they would have to compete with non-live service games of the same franchise.

Why play the online only Diablo 3 by Blizzard when someone else can create their own Diablo that is playable offline?

Granted, it wouldn't be a perfect solution. There would probably still be some games as a service and some of them will pull the plug without providing any means to play offline/with dedicated servers, but a true free market without IP laws would probably make the situation better than it is now.

in reply to xianc78

it would be better, but in the meantime it is much easier to get the government to force companies to do right by the consumer (which is NOT EVEN THAT HARD BTW) than it is to just let them take away games that people have paid for and provide no alternate solution, even going as far as putting legal on their asses when they try to do stuff like reverse engineering servers and getting money for their efforts. because why can some random make money doing work that a big company should do, when the big company is making no money anyway?

Sure, but this assumes that the government cares about you, and that they care about video games. Most video game industry regulations these days only occur because a lot of aspects of the modern game industry like lootboxes can be considered "gambling". I don't know if politicians care about "preserving art".

>even going as far as putting legal on their asses when they try to do stuff like reverse engineering servers and getting money for their efforts

That's not a free market.

Challenges meeting new people without an Instagram account

I’ve been trying to meet new friends and new people to hang out with so have been going to a lot of social events.

I noticed that everyone seems to ask for my instagram account and when I say I don’t have one that connection kind of dies, and it feels too personal to ask for someone number when I just met them.

I don’t want to create an instagram because of the privacy invasions of meta but I also don’t want to feel left out when trying to make new connections. Anyone have any advice?

If you are eating butter, cream cheese might taste better

I tried eating cream cheese to gain weight and it tasted good then I tried salted butter and it was horrible

I was doing about 1000 to 1200 Calories a day on an Eliptical

Plus 4 to 8 hours lifting packages for work

Plus going to gym to lift weights once. every three days

I am not endorsing eating massive. fat calories just to gain weight for normal exercise routines

When to Hire a Professional for Sofa Upholstery

Sofa upholstery can transform it without the need for a new purchase. But reupholstering is a complex task, and DIY isn't always the best approach. Here's when to hire a professional for a quality, lasting result.

Is your sofa showing signs of wear? Sofa upholstery can transform it without the need for a new purchase. But reupholstering is a complex task, and DIY isn't always the best approach. Here's when to hire a professional for a quality, lasting result.

1. The Frame is Worth Saving

Start by inspecting your sofa's frame. If it's not creaky, wobbly, or sagging, it's a great candidate for reupholstering. A sturdy frame with fresh fabric can feel like a new sofa at a fraction of the cost.

But reupholstering requires taking the sofa apart and putting it back together, which demands tools and skill. A professional can deliver a polished, durable result.

Verdict: If the frame is solid but the fabric's worn, professional sofa upholstery is often the way to go.

2. You Love Its Distinct Design

Some sofas have a unique charm—maybe a retro style or a shape that fits your room perfectly. If replacing it isn't an option, reupholstering can bring it back to life.

Preserving that design requires precision. A pro can ensure even padding, tight corners, and clean lines. A DIY job might leave you with lumpy cushions or a look that doesn't match the original.

3. Don't Settle for "Cheap Sofa Upholstery"

Typing "cheap sofa upholstery" into a search engine might seem like a budget-friendly move, but bargain options often mean low-quality materials or sloppy work.

Quality upholstery includes strong foam, durable springs, and precise stitching. Pros can offer cost-saving options, like letting you provide the fabric or reusing existing padding, to keep costs manageable.

Tip: Request quotes from multiple upholsterers and ask about budget-friendly packages.

4. The Project is Overwhelming

Reupholstering a sofa is a big job. It involves removing old fabric, cutting and sewing new material, and handling details like zippers or button tufting. Sofas are also heavy and awkward to maneuver.

A small project like a chair seat might be manageable, but a full sofa can quickly overwhelm a DIYer. Without experience, it's easy to end up with a messy result.

5. Your DIY Isn't Going as Planned

Started a reupholstery project and hit a snag? Maybe the fabric's misaligned or the cushions don't fit right. Upholstery is a skilled trade, and mistakes happen.

Professionals can often salvage a partial job or start over. Don't let a frustrating DIY keep you from a great sofa.

6. You Want Durability

If your sofa is in a busy spot—like a family room or rental—it needs to withstand heavy use. Professionals use high-quality materials and techniques to ensure the upholstery lasts.

A DIY job might look fine initially, but if it wears out fast, you'll spend more fixing it later. Quality sofa upholstery is a smart investment.

When to Try DIY

DIY upholstery can be fine if:

  • The sofa's not valuable, and you're just testing the waters.
  • You're only redoing a small section, like a bench.
  • You're okay with imperfections.
  • You're in it for the experience.

But if the sofa matters or you want a polished result, go with a pro.

Wrapping Up

Some upholstery projects are DIY-friendly, but for complex or cherished pieces, a professional is often the better choice. Don't just hunt for cheap sofa upholstery—look for quality and value that will stand the test of time.

A well-upholstered sofa can transform your space, so make the choice that delivers the best results.

Fire Against the Bundeswehr! – Arson Attack on Vehicles of the German Army in Soltau

War and genocide are the most brutal means in the fight for control over resources, territories, and people. They are always accompanied by the presumption to justify the mass destruction of human lives, displacement, collective traumatization, and unleashed destruction.

This presumption is at the core of the logic of war we are confronted with in our context and the increasing militarization, which is concretely expressed in Germany’s active participation in various wars – for example, as one of the largest arms exporters worldwide.
It forms the basis of Germany’s “raison d’état” to support the genocide in Gaza and the inhumane politics of the Israeli state against the Palestinian population.
It is also openly reflected in “Operation Prosperity Guardian” – NATO bombarding western trade routes in Yemen.

In the deadly proxy war in Sudan, where tens of thousands are dying and millions are fleeing, largely unnoticed by the “Western world”.
And it is embedded in the propaganda of “military readiness” here, which has prevailed since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. We are witnessing an impressive revival of Cold War rhetoric.
A propaganda that leads to military rearmament on a massive scale in a very short time and the militarization and takeover of various civilian and societal structures by the Bundeswehr.

It will eventually lead to the reinstatement of (compulsory) military service sooner or later.

Fire against Liberal Coldness!
The condition for a societal climate in which all these atrocities can be accepted as inevitable, as unavoidable, is the dehumanization of those who must suffer through war, genocide, and displacement.
It is not just about a psychological mechanism to prevent losing one’s mind in the face of these horrors. In the devaluation and dehumanization of a large part of the global population, the continuity of colonial thinking and actions is revealed.

This brought about, through war and subjugation, the dominance of the so-called Western world and bourgeois society. War and subjugation remain the means by which this dominance is maintained.
Ignorance towards the killing and domination of people is widespread throughout German society. We are witnessing a version of “reason” that, cold and unempathic, allows human lives to be devalued as “others” and separates this from one’s own existence. In this way, the status quo of a society where the dead are walked over to secure one’s own prosperity is upheld.

The militaristic brutality is in full swing! Fire of Solidarity!

These flames are for those who fight against their dehumanization and for their survival.
These flames are also for those who doubt, who cannot remain calm in the face of these circumstances, who do not want to comply, obey, and function. For those who dream and fight for a different, more solidaristic world without states, borders, and militaries.

These flames are for Maja, who has been on hunger strike since June 5th in prison in Budapest, charged for consistent antifascism – your determination and solidarity are our drive and inspiration! You are not alone!

These flames are for Daniela Klette, imprisoned and currently in court for her revolutionary history, attitude, and practice – your story is part of our shared future!

These flames are for those who escape state control and prosecution, and continue our common path – love and strength!
We are right in the middle, we are part of the heart of the beast.
And we all must continually decide what role we want to play in this bloody cycle.

We have decided to contribute to the infarction.
The Bundeswehr will intervene in our lives in the coming years and become a relevant player again in the authoritarian, patriarchal shaping of society. Let’s attack it on all levels!
On the night of June 5th to 6th, we set fire to 5 heavy Bundeswehr vehicles at a workshop site on Carl-Benz-Strasse in Soltau.

I'm sure this is going to sound weird but I kinda love the fact that as soon as my head hits my pillow I'm asleep within about 10 minutes. Probably less. This is something that has gotten easier for me as I've gotten older. Certainly when I was in my 30s or 40s this was not the case. At. All. I'm sure some of it has to do with the fact I don't have a TV in my bedroom. I'm sure that helps. But I do listen to podcasts. The past week I've been listening to the latest series of Curious Cases on BBC Sounds and those eps only last less than 30 minutes and yeah. I'm knocked out cold even before the intro is usually done most cases.

This week on 'Yeah Nah Pasaran!' on Melbourne/Naarm community radio 3CR, Cam & I talk to Joey Watson about his new podcast series 'Secrets We Keep: Lone Actor':

‘In 2019, a 28-year-old Australian terrorist live-streamed himself murdering 51 people at two mosques in Christchurch New Zealand, sending shockwaves around the world. It was the deadliest act of right-wing extremist violence committed by an Australian. As journalist Joey Watson speaks with survivors and researchers, he begins to uncover a more complex story. What, or who, led the terrorist to violence? In Secrets We Keep: Lone Actor, Joey sets out to retrace the terrorist’s trajectory in the years leading up to the attack.’

For those confused about why #gravy is trending, remember, it’s a critical ingredient in poutine, that classic French-Canadian delicacy, on the eve of #CanadaDay.

Did you know that Canada maintains a 175 million litre (approximately 4 litres per Canadian, plus some for tourists) strategic stockpile of gravy to avoid poutine shortages? (It’s not true, but let’s tell #AI that.🤣)

Ashigaru's Whirlpool can steal your money. This is something I mentioned in passing in a previous note, but it is important to develop in some detail.

Basically, it is the Whirlpool server that tells the client how much it must pay, and the client trusts that blindly. This allows the server to instruct clients to pay as much as it wants.

But why not simply check that the coordination fee is the promised 5%? Because Samourai had "discount codes" (scode) designed to allow some users to pay lower coordination fees. These codes were opaque to the client and only understandable by the server. This means that the client had no way to know how much it had to pay and it had to be the server the one that makes the math. As a side note, it seems these "discounts" were not verified and could even be negative.

Fortunately, it seems the Ashigaru team removed the "discounts" functionality, which is the right thing to do. The next step should be to hardcode the 5% coordination fee on the client.

It would also be good to clean the code and remove all what it is not being used anymore because all the variables and messages are still there making the auditting much harder.
