The family of the Colorado terror suspect who injured 8 Israeli hostage supporters with homemade firebombs last month can be deported, a federal judge ruled on Wednesday.

US District Court Judge Orlando Garcia dismissed Mohamed Sabry Soliman family’s legal challenge to their deportation — stating that the Trump administration has conducted normal and legal removal proceedings.

in reply to Jazzilla

@jazzilla something from Websters... to have sovereign power is to have absolute power—that is, power that cannot be checked by anyone or anything. Nations and states are also sometimes described as "sovereign." This means that they have power over themselves; their government is under their own control, rather than under the control of an outside authority.

Sovereign can also be a synonym of supreme as in "of the most exalted kind." In that case, the power is figurative rather than literal.

tons of upgrades today don’t be scared

attention to new package called wayback

This is very experimental still so be ware and be ready for crashing/locking.
Very interesting idea so we thought it is worth of conscious experimentation.
DO NOT EXIT the WM as usual without killing wayback first, you may lose all input devices so no way to switch to other tty. Either use a 2nd machine and sshd service, or have some script kill wayback after a period of inactivity, like a screensaver with a command.

Wayback is a project from Alpine in an effort to quit supporting Xorg-server before it is even abandoned, and run any wm or DE within a wayland composer. As I understand it using xwayland they can provide a simulated xserver enviornment as an xwayland application for a wm or de to start in. What appears to be lacking at the moment is what happens when the wm exits. kb and pointer input is lost and you hang in a machine that functions perfectly if it can be reached from outside. If you start conky together with jwm and exit jwm, conky keeps running on this fake xorg environment but the wm is gone, and with it kb and mouse.

So if you can replace the menu item for exit to killall wayback things will work well 😀

Still, the deficiencies of wayland are carried on but this is really early phase of development, not beta, this is gamma stage. Too good of an idea to keep hidden.

I get my loved vtwm running in way…lr… and this is a good thing 😀

Please share your experience

SLight miscommunication between us, the version suffering from the above was dropped not uploaded, the latest master commit (a few commits later) no longer has this problem. Although changing tty while in the wayback session is a question to upstream.
All terminals and wm tried worked, as long as seatd is running.

The display definition is virtual, not real and definition doesn't really match the chosen resolutions. It is nearly half the definition from what shows on list.
The single display is branded xwayland0 and I don't believe multi-display works yet.

Otherwise working

in reply to joborun linux

This has a long way to go before it can provide a real solution. Display definition and setting seem awful, and it just takes the entire display stack on itself to manipulate and provide a single virtual display as an xwayland simulation. No xinerama no tty control it is wayback or nothing till it exits.
While simulating it seems to take the max resolution and defines it as the maximum possible resolution for X, which can be multiples of what it really is. So you get 5Kx4K option on a display that can only do 1/4 of this but 1/4th the size.
So if your screen only does 1920 when you take it to 1920 you get something like 800x600 kind of resolution.

It is also heavy on ram use, much heavier than X itself, so our WMs become like a fraction of what wayback uses to simulate Xserver

redshift gammashift fail to make any adjustments, but don't show as failing, they just have no effect.

#Vietnam will now face a 20% tariff rate for goods it exports to the #USA — 10% more than it had before.*

The US will ship its goods to Vietnam, tariff free (per #trump).

US imports goods like: apparel, electrical machinery, and footwear from Vietnam.

Vietnam imports goods like: include raw cotton, integrated circuits & telecommunications equipment from the US.

#MyThoughts-

The ‘deal’ will raise prices for Americans while potentially helping select US exporting companies.

It’s a terrible deal for #Vietnam, which was strong-armed by #trump after he threatened a 46% blanket tariff on goods the #USA imports from the country. He then backed down to 10% before ‘negotiating’ up to 20% (instead of raising it back to 46% on July 9, when his reciprocal #tariffs would resume.)

All current activist movements—whether race, sex, gender, or climate—are just foils for one thing: dismantling the American ideal. They’re anti-American, anti-Western, and anti-Capitalist at their core. They hijack moral causes to erode free speech, property rights, meritocracy, and individual liberty—values that built the West. The surface changes, but the goal is the same: tear it all down and replace it with ideological control.

Sierra Leone bolters mpox response: WHO leads groundbreaking genomic surveillance and bioinformatics training | WHO | Regional Office for Africa

Despite reporting over 4,400 confirmed cases of mpox as of 27 June 2025, Sierra Leone has performed genomic characterization on only approximately 2.5% of these cases (108 sequences), representing a significant limitation in understanding viral evolution and informing targeted public health interventions. Currently, these genomic data are deposited in international repositories such as Pathoplexus, GISAID, and NCBI Virus; however, the disparity between outbreak detection and genomic data generation hampers real-time surveillance efforts.

The week-long workshop employed a multidisciplinary, hands-on approach combining didactic instruction, practical exercises, and group data analysis. The curriculum included:

  • Day 1: Introduction to genomic surveillance principles, sequencing technologies, and foundational bioinformatics tools such as Linux and Conda environments.
  • Day 2: Emphasis on sequencing data quality control (FastQC, MultiQC), read trimming (Fastp, Hostile), and genome assembly techniques utilizing reference-based (BWA, Cutadapt) and de novo (SPAdes) approaches.
  • Day 3: Variant detection and analysis (SAMtools, FreeBayes, Snippy), consensus sequence generation (Bcftools), and genome annotation (SnpEff, VEP).
  • Day 4: Phylogenetic analysis, clade classification (Nextclade, Nextstrain), and visualization using platforms such as GISAID, Pathoplexus, NCBI Virus, Microreact, iTOL, and Galaxy.
  • Day 5: Integration of all components through a case study simulating mpox outbreak response, culminating in data interpretation and strategic planning.

Walter Oguta, WHO AFRO EPI Analytics Specialist and the Lead Bioinformatics Trainer, underscored the practical value of the training, stating, “Translating genomic data into actionable public health strategies is the ultimate goal. Our aim was to equip participants with both technical proficiency and confidence to utilize these tools effectively.”

The Fediverse Passport: A needed tool.

The Fediverse Passport would be the central account for all users on the Fediverse.

How it would work

a. Upon signing up for the a platform on the Fediverse the user would be redirected to the "Create your Passport" You would create your unique username. Once signed up you would then have an account on every platform connected to the Fediverse.

b. If someone friends/follows you on one platform they would automatically follow you on all platforms. Insuring that communities and friends could stay connected across platforms.

c. The passport for the user would show your feed on all platforms and allow you to selected which platform you want to see your feed from, also allowing you to directly search your content so you could find a post for whatever reason you need.

d. For the subscriber it would show them your feed and allow them to easily find your content.

e. Tons of customization options including the ability to monetize and or set a subscription fee for the video, blogging, and other "arts" platforms.

Safe Guards

You would be allowed to set your privacy setting to, Public, Subscribers Only, Approve Subscribers, Mutual Friends only, Private (Requires link)

Benefit

Would allow stream less interaction across the whole Fediverse and really get it going. No more having to create a different account on each platform and now you can claim an identity and keep track of your communities, also each site would directly help "advertise" the others.

in reply to Sackeshi

There is also KeyOxide with solves part of it via cryptographic verification and I believe some fediverse platforms already support it: codeberg.org/keyoxide

One of the main reasons I maintain a ND account, to tell these NIMBY types to STFU and let kids be kids LMAO

In my area though, ND is fairly balanced, so once I start commenting that in a post, others usually join in lol
