The proposal, far from being a safeguard against nuclear proliferation, amounts to a green light for unprovoked and illegal military aggression against a sovereign nation.ยน
This legislation serves not as a tool of deterrence, but as a deliberate provocation designed to entrench Israelโs long-standing policy of regional escalation. It is especially alarming given Israelโs history of unauthorized military strikes on Iranian soil and other extraterritorial operations, which violate international law and Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.ยฒ
Authorizing a unilateral #US transfer of strategic bombers and weapons capable of penetrating hardened #nuclear sites undermines diplomacy and directly threatens regional and global stability. Israelโs covert and overt attacks on Iranian nuclear scientists, military infrastructure, and civilian facilities have not only escalated tensions, but have also led Iran to harden its defensive posture and withdraw from international nuclear agreements such as the #JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), largely due to the Trump administration's earlier abandonment of the accord.ยณ
By preparing to arm Israel for a preemptive military strike, the proposed legislation would draw the United States into a foreign war that the American public overwhelmingly opposes.โด This path not only jeopardizes regional diplomacy but also places U.S. military personnel, diplomats, and civilians across the Middle East in immediate danger of retaliationโnot from rogue actors, but from state-level retribution by Iran, a sovereign nation with formidable military capabilities.
Moreover, the framing of this legislation as a defensive measure conceals its actual function: enabling a continued campaign of aggression, expansionism, and lawlessness under the false veneer of national security. Israel, a nuclear-armed state that has refused to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), maintains an arsenal outside of international inspection and oversight.โต Supporting Israelโs unilateral military actions while Iran remains a signatory to the NPT represents a brazen double standard in U.S. foreign policy and a reckless betrayal of international norms.
Rather than deterring conflict, the proposed bill would accelerate it. Edit: I'll leave it here for whomever might come next: use Ventoy to create the USB, not Rufus, and then boot in grub2 option. It's installing now, at least. Let's see...
Getting Linux on a Surface can be hard.
How did you format the USB drive? I could never get a usb to boot on my Surface Go unless it was made in Rufus using Windows. I believe you need to format the USB (with no iso) as an unbootable disc with fat32 and GPT and THEN put the iso you want on it. (Two separate operations on the same USB stick.)
There's also a custom Linux Kernel just for Surfaces that you can use for better driver compatibility.
Edit: I see you mentioned Ventoy. I got some ISOs to work with it, but most didn't. Then again, I couldn't get some ISOs to work with Rufus either.
This is the issue. There are all kinds of special steps needed because of various issues.
Skip Garuda and go for a distro that is known to work well on Surface like Fedora, Arch, or Mint.
