Children should be protected from the social constructionists that let them make undergo life altering medical treatments for a possibly temporary confusion about their sex. Something that is by no means surprising given the amount of synthetic hormones we are exposed to combined with gender-confusing naratives in media.
I don't think anyone is going to undergo a sex change, just based on reading a book. It could help though to understand what transgenders are going through and to create a bit of empathy for them. But empathy is a forbidden emotion these days. @gvs
Children are confused about many things, that's why we don't let them make permanent decisions. Secondly, the bombardment of hormones in our water, in forever plastics and crappy food have sharply changed our hormones. Teenage boys today have the testosterone level that our grandfathers had at 70. Don't tell met that doesn't affect them.

I have a lot of empathy for transgenders, who I think are mostly affected by the combination of social manipulation and messed up hormones into taking treatments that forever sterilizes them. Though as a libertarian I will not put anything in their way of harming themselves, I think they actually need help accepting who they really are instead of undergoing mutulation.
@gvs I'm not fine with banning books. Banning books is censorship. I have a collection of books at home that once upon a time have been forbidden somewhere in the world and some of them still are. You can't forbid a book because you don't like the content. If you have a problem with it, you don't have to read it, or you discuss why you have opposing views, with arguments. There are age classifications for children when it comes to books, movies, ... That's enough to protect them. @glynmoody
Just to poke you, how about for example mein kampf? To be clear, for adults I think there should be 0 banned books.
For kids, we also agree on the principle that there shoudl be age classifications, but we don't agree what should be classified for what age. The people Glyn is critizing put an age classification on books they think can harm kids and I agree with them. Even though we in Belgium did not have rules on those materials, I kept them away from mine and chose the least bad schools (Christian ones) to protect them
@gvs when I say, I'm not a lover of banning books, that includes books like Mein Kampf. And you won't find explicit children's books about transgenders, you'll find books about the topic that are age appropriate and that helps them to understand what it is. There's no need to ban those. They can find more, and less age appropriate, information on the internet if they are interested in the topic. I would rather have them reading that book then. @glynmoody
We disagree about what it (transgenderism) is and age appropriate. Also, that ideology is pushing for medical treatment on minors, which I believe to be absolutely morally corrupt. Adults can do whatever they like (but I don't have to go along with that either)

It's extremely plain matter-of-fact, A says X, B responded Y, with little editorialising or opinion material, or discernible politics of its own. Allegations quoted at length and attributed, responses quoted at length, in either direction. No looking out the window to see whether it is raining, but at least neutral reporting on the “is it raining or not" debate from the outside, without name-calling, sensationalising, or actively stoking controversy.
Between Haaretz or The Forward their mix of stating plain truths sometimes and harebrained nonsense other times, and Jewish Currents being all opinions and essays, this might offer something slightly different.

In a stunning display of bipartisan militarism, Representatives Josh Gottheimer (D–NJ) and Mike Lawler (R–NY) have introduced legislation that would authorize #Trump to provide #Israel with advanced military capabilities, including B-2 stealth bombers and Massive Ordnance Penetrators (MOPs), also known as bunker-buster bombs, under the pretext of deterring Iran from pursuing a nuclear weapons program. The proposal, far from being a safeguard against nuclear proliferation, amounts to a green light for unprovoked and illegal military aggression against a sovereign nation.¹
This legislation serves not as a tool of deterrence, but as a deliberate provocation designed to entrench Israel’s long-standing policy of regional escalation. It is especially alarming given Israel’s history of unauthorized military strikes on Iranian soil and other extraterritorial operations, which violate international law and Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.²
Authorizing a unilateral #US transfer of strategic bombers and weapons capable of penetrating hardened #nuclear sites undermines diplomacy and directly threatens regional and global stability. Israel’s covert and overt attacks on Iranian nuclear scientists, military infrastructure, and civilian facilities have not only escalated tensions, but have also led Iran to harden its defensive posture and withdraw from international nuclear agreements such as the #JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), largely due to the Trump administration's earlier abandonment of the accord.³
By preparing to arm Israel for a preemptive military strike, the proposed legislation would draw the United States into a foreign war that the American public overwhelmingly opposes.⁴ This path not only jeopardizes regional diplomacy but also places U.S. military personnel, diplomats, and civilians across the Middle East in immediate danger of retaliation—not from rogue actors, but from state-level retribution by Iran, a sovereign nation with formidable military capabilities.
Moreover, the framing of this legislation as a defensive measure conceals its actual function: enabling a continued campaign of aggression, expansionism, and lawlessness under the false veneer of national security. Israel, a nuclear-armed state that has refused to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), maintains an arsenal outside of international inspection and oversight.⁵ Supporting Israel’s unilateral military actions while Iran remains a signatory to the NPT represents a brazen double standard in U.S. foreign policy and a reckless betrayal of international norms.
Rather than deterring conflict, the proposed bill would accelerate it. The U.S. has a moral, strategic, and legal obligation to resist being drawn into another war of choice—particularly one fought at the behest of a foreign power whose recent actions have been condemned as aggressive and destabilizing.⁶ The American people deserve leadership that prioritizes peace, not political subservience to a foreign military agenda.
